It’s another night. Just after finishing dinner in the cafeteria, Arkham Batman was stopped by Primary Universe Batman on his way back to the dormitory. The two walked side by side down the corridor. Primary Universe Batman turned his head to Arkham Batman and whispered, "Did you notice that Night Owl seed a bit strange today?"
"Seems like it." Arkham Batman said, "The way he looked at you was off, he had an overly strong desire to attack, and he even dared to look in the eye twice. That’s not normal."
"What do you think happened to him?"
"It seems your plan to have Iron Man interrupt their study process didn’t work." Arkham Batman said, "He must have learned sothing from Shiller... Wait a minute, why would Shiller teach him real skills?"
"That’s the crux of the problem." Primary Universe Batman said, "Night Owl believes the special powers he gained are from Shiller, but Shiller is not a mage and doesn’t understand contracts. So if Night Owl indeed completed a contract, how did he manage to do it?"
"Although Shiller is not a magician, he has a good relationship with the Supre Magician and might know those demon gods. If he acted as an interdiary... no, the Supre Magician wouldn’t let Shiller ss around like that. To allow demon god contracts with students in the school, they must relax the school’s control, allowing the demon god’s power to enter. But the Supre Magician would not allow such a thing to happen; it’s a matter of principle."
"So there are two possibilities now." Primary Universe Batman said, "Either Shiller really persuaded the Supre Magician, or, the source of Night Owl’s contract is not a demon god at all."
"Do you think the power he acquired might backfire?" Arkham Batman frowned.
"We’ll only know what’s going on if we test it." Primary Universe Batman said, "If he really has gained strength, he’ll definitely go to the Magic Forest to experint. Let’s take a walk there tonight."
"Won’t it be too risky?" Arkham Batman said, "What if he turns against us?"
"That’s why we can’t go alone, I’ll go get Bruce."
They parted ways at the corner of the corridor, and Primary Universe Batman headed to the dormitory entrance of rcury College, just in ti to block Bruce, who was about to leave.
"Looking for ?" Bruce looked in a foul mood.
"Failed to take advantage of the situation, did you?" Primary Universe Batman bluntly exposed Bruce, saying, "You intended to manipulate Night Owl when I suppressed him, letting his condition worsen or even fall into despair. But I inadvertently added Shiller to the equation, and Night Owl is about to turn the tables before hitting absolute rock bottom, your plan failed. So why not listen to my next plan?"
Bruce pursed his lips, not answering, tacitly acknowledging Primary Universe Batman’s guess. He said, "You shouldn’t have dragged Doctor Shiller into this; he is a very dangerous man. In my opinion, he’s even more dangerous than the Professor. The variables he brings are no good for you."
"What makes you think I’m unaware of his dangers?" Primary Universe Batman’s tone remained calm. "If a bomb is bound to explode, a smart person would push my enemies closest to the bomb. Isn’t that right?"
"You’ve succeeded." Bruce’s tone carried no inflection, "But whether or not I can manipulate Night Owl doesn’t matter to ."
"Sour grapes."
"What do you intend to do?" Bruce seed rather impatient, "If you keep talking nonsense, I won’t stay."
"Night Owl might have acquired new powers from Shiller, but we think sothing’s wrong with it. He might go to the Magic Forest tonight to test these powers, and we want you to co with us."
"Why should I..."
"Either we beat him half to death, or he beats us half to death. You don’t want to see that?"
Bruce was silent. He thought about it; he indeed wanted to see it.
"Alright, you win." Bruce said, "If you guys beat him half to death, I’ll rush in to save him; if he beats you guys half to death, I’ll go back to the school to call for help. Is that it?"
"Exactly." Primary Universe Batman nodded, "Of course, it’s best to get a witness, just in case he denies it."
The two discussed for only a short while before parting ways. Bruce, on his way back to the dorm, ran into Night Owl headed the other way. Bruce leaned against the stairway, observing Night Owl, but Night Owl, preoccupied, didn’t notice his gaze.
As Night Owl brushed past him, Bruce subtly wrinkled his nose and revealed a knowing look.
"So he’s been in league with the devils who battled Lucifer in the Magic Forest that day. Yet Night Owl doesn’t seem triumphant about settling a big score; instead, he still seems sowhat troubled. Tonight’s going to be quite a show."
The night was as cool as water, and the Magic Forest felt even more humid. Night Owl trudged towards the lakeside. Even with his acquired powers, he felt incredibly parched, a burning desire within that could only be soothed by soaking in cool water.
Moreover, this damned power was far from being easily wielded, it simply didn’t obey his commands, and he couldn’t direct it like other mages. Saphire said this was normal, but if he couldn’t control it, wouldn’t that be asking for trouble?
He had to quickly resolve things with Primary Universe Batman and Arkham Batman, or who knows how many more tricks they would have up their sleeves?
Night Owl entered the lake. It was vast, and as long as he swam to the center, he could freely unleash his power. With more practice, he’d surely be able to master it.
Soaking in the lake, he began to incessantly diffuse phisto’s power around him, at tis forming blades to slash, and other tis, like a heavy hamr, causing ripples on the water’s surface. But the strength was always hard to control; either it was all bark and no bite, or it resulted in an explosion without apparent force.
Hiding behind the tree, the Primary Universe Batman and Arkham Batman exchanged a glance. As expected, the power Night Owl acquired had issues. A normal magician shouldn’t be like this.
Due to jumping a grade, they could communicate with more Grand Mages. The Grand Mages no longer avoided talking to them about the Demon Gods. In the conversations, the Grand Mages often emphasized one thing: it wasn’t humans praying to the Demon Gods for power, but rather a collaboration between both parties, each seeking sothing.
The human soul is very special to the Demon Gods, yet they are always blocked by the Earth’s Magic Defense Network. Therefore, the deputies beca an important communication channel. Without special circumstances, the Demon Gods would absolutely not ss with their deputies. Even considering the face of the Supre Magician, they would let their power behave obediently.
The current situation with Night Owl clearly shows that the Demon God finds him displeasing, which is why his power is behaving contrary to him, leading to frequent loss of control.
Nevertheless, the Primary Universe Batman and Arkham Batman waited a while until Night Owl had nearly exhausted his power before coming out from behind the tree as he prepared to go ashore.
"What are you doing here?!" Night Owl took a step back warily, then realized his previous actions might have been seen by them.
"I didn’t expect you have completed the covenant." Primary Universe Batman said, "What do you think the Supre Magician will think?"
Night Owl’s fists clenched instantly. He had co this far and could not let the Primary Universe Batman ruin his plans.
Flas suddenly ignited, burning in the air and exploding with a crackling sound. Primary Universe Batman and Arkham Batman instantly dodged to the sides. Their darts almost simultaneously shot out, but were blocked by a blood-red shield.
Night Owl revealed a suprely evil smile and said, "No matter what, I have gained more powerful strength than you. You have no chance of finding the Supre Magician."
After speaking, blazing flas flared up, and for a mont, Night Owl seed to split into nurous shadows. The scent of ash perated, forcing the Primary Universe Batman and Arkham Batman to back up against each other, on guard for sneak attacks in the dark.
Countless ashes floated, obscuring their vision. Suddenly, a fissure opened on the ground, and magma gushed out, forming a large hand that slapped towards them. They dodged again, but the ashes floating in the air acted like sharp knives, slicing towards their vital parts.
Primary Universe Batman used his arm to block, and in a mont his arm was covered in cuts and blood. Arkham Batman, crouching and hiding in the bushes, was not hard by the ashes. He grabbed the Primary Universe Batman, and the two of them took cover behind a large tree.
"This is trouble." Although the Primary Universe Batman said this, there was not much tension in his voice.
Arkham Batman looked back and sure enough, there was a hint of holy light behind the swirling ashes, indicating Bruce had arrived. But Bruce did not show up, evidently not intending to rescue them, only planning to watch the show.
"Shall we go?" Arkham Batman asked.
Primary Universe Batman shook his head, saying: "We still need to test his limits. Can you find him?"
"No problem." Arkham Batman focused intently, quickly capturing a faint heartbeat just two or three ters away behind another tree.
In an instant, three darts were released. One hit the tree, forcing Night Owl out; the other two headed straight for his face. As Night Owl erged, he faced the cold gleam of the darts. He reacted a bit slow, and even though he rolled to the side to dodge, a dart scraped open his eyelid.
"Uh..."
Blood flowed down into his eye, impairing half his vision. Arkham Batman, however, had already leapt onto this tree like an agile leopard, jumping down from the right upper blind spot to tackle Night Owl to the ground. This was imdiately followed by three ’bang, bang, bang’ punches, dimming the vision in the other eye as well.
Night Owl roared angrily, overturning Arkham Batman with magic power. But as soon as he hit the ground, Arkham Batman swept his legs, causing Night Owl to fall again before he could get up, taking a heavy kick to the waist, rolling several tis on the ground.
"You group of... you group of bastards!!!" He cursed through gritted teeth, "I will kill you, I will kill you!!"
No matter whether he could control so much power, an enormous magical power erupted around his body, roaring flas ignited within a ten-ter radius.
"Oh no, he’s losing control." Arkham Batman said, "Run!"
But it was too late. The energy Night Owl forcefully summoned hadn’t been smoothly released, instead compressing within his body, triggering a violent explosion.
"Boom!!!"
Strange, ditating in the principal’s office, was almost knocked off the couch. He rushed to the window, watching as trees in the Magic Forest toppled, dumbfounded: "Why did it explode again? Is the feng shui bad in the Magic Forest, why is there a problem every few days? At this rate, can the movie really release on schedule?"
"Wait a minute." Strange knocked on his head, "The movie isn’t the issue now. Who blew up the Magic Forest, could it be phisto again?"
Strange didn’t care much, directly flying to the explosion site, and there he saw Batman lying all over the place.
He knew it! He knew it was those Batn causing trouble!
Strange was quite angry, but anger aside, he imdiately went to save people, using magic to lift everyone up and taking them to the school hospital.
Surprisingly, Doctor Schiller hadn’t slept today and helped put all the Batn on the hospital beds. After Strange left, Doctor Schiller looked at the room full of Batn, revealing a satisfied smile.
