Chapter 381: 153. Demon’s Gate (Two-in-One)_3
The New Party mber nad Trandell hadn’t done much of anything worthwhile recently, but at least he was still at the frontline of his job.
He saw that no colleagues were willing to help the crowds near Snake Head Street, so he went there alone, ready to lead the nearby workers to safety.
As he was directing the evacuation, he heard the distant clash of armor. Breathing heavily, he looked up and saw Fisher and Moli sprinting ahead of the soldiers.
“Fisher?” Trandell opened his mouth in shock, locking eyes with the drenched Fisher for a mont before glancing at the soldiers rapidly approaching from behind. After hesitating for a second, he suddenly yelled out,
“Everyone! The Princess’s soldiers have co to help you with the disaster relief! Don’t move, listen to the soldiers for instructions, and evacuate with them to a safe location!”
“The Princess!”
“Soldiers of Princess Elizabeth?”
The elder princess’s na was still very influential, and though many people were afraid of the soldiers wielding weapons, they started to cautiously move toward them because of Princess Elizabeth’s na.
Fisher looked at Trandell gratefully. After Trandell nodded at him, he suddenly saw Moli being led by Fisher. He silently flipped the middle finger at them, then worried that the soldiers would notice his mischief, he quickly disappeared into the crowd.
The soldiers behind watched angrily as Moli and Fisher squeezed into the crowd, shouting furiously,
“Make way! Everyone make way! We’re capturing a very important criminal!”
“Hey, stop pushing!”
“People are pushing from the back!”
But once the crowd had surged forward, trying to move back beca difficult.
The disappointed people at the front began to retreat, but those at the back who hadn’t heard the commotion continued to push forward. In no ti, everyone was stuck at the entrance of Snake Head Street.
The soldiers couldn’t use their weapons to clear the way and could only watch as their catch slipped further away.
“Damn it! Which bastard?!”
“Don’t let catch that scoundrel!”
Fisher could no longer hear the soldiers’ roar as he and Moli squeezed into the underground realm of Snake Head Street, quickly descending the staircase. However, the sight that t his eyes startled him.
Snake Head Street, being underground with mostly makeshift, hazardous buildings, had succumbed to chaos after that morning’s events. Houses had collapsed, people were fleeing, and Fisher even saw soone committing murder in the street, chasing after others with a knife.
In such chaos, the gangs couldn’t assu the role of official authorities. Their intimidation did nothing to stop the mayhem, and since the official personnel generally ignored Snake Head Street, Trandell wouldn’t have co alone to evacuate the masses. And so, the once-restricted Snake Head Street fell into boundless chaos.
The street was cracked and split, with several bodies lying on either side— not victims of the disaster, but of murder.
Fisher narrowed his eyes, suddenly recalling that Old Jack’s tavern was nearby. Moli rembered too; Old Jack had helped Fisher fend off Blake’s pursuers with a gun. Thinking of checking on Old Jack’s safety, they headed towards the tavern.
Reaching the front of Old Jack’s tavern, they saw the glass doors shattered and the neatly arranged tables and chairs inside scattered about.
Fisher frowned and was about to open the door when a gun barrel suddenly protruded from within,
“Don’t move!”
“…Old Jack?”
Hearing Fisher’s voice, the gun barrel retracted from the crack in the door, which opened to reveal Old Jack with a cigarette in his mouth, his body clinging with three trembling ‘rat ladies,’
“Sob, Fisher, there were a lot of bad guys trying to rob us earlier.”
“Yeah, the basent also collapsed.”
Old Jack, cigarette in mouth, glanced at the devastated Snake Head Street and spat bitterly before cursing,
“Saint Nali’s turned into a battlefield like Schwali, with those inhuman, ghostly monsters earlier, and now, even better, such a big ss throughout the district. I reckon Dexter really should apologize with his death…”
Fisher thought that if Dexter’s restless spirit knew, it would probably thank Old Jack.
After swearing a few tis, Old Jack looked at the bedraggled Fisher, raised his eyebrows and said,
“And you, how did you end up like this?”
“That’s a long story, but we must leave Saint Nali now. Since we know you’re safe, we’ll take our leave.”
“Leave Saint Nali? Oh, the army has sealed off the outside; seems like the only chance is to try your luck here… Wait up, I’ll take Karma and the others and leave Saint Nali with you.”
“With us?”
At that remark, Fisher glanced at Old Jack. To be honest, Old Jack was getting on in years, and it would be very dangerous to leave with him. The next second, Fisher was about to persuade him against it, but after a deep drag on his cigarette, Old Jack cut him off,
“My tavern’s destroyed, there’s not much left for in Saint Nali. The only thing I can’t leave behind are those three. They’ve been living in the basent with rats for company, I worry about them if they stay too long…”
“As long as we’re with grandfather, anywhere is fine.”
