Chapter 568: 73. Supplent for the Moon Rabbit Species
“Zzz… Please, take a seat, Mr. Fisher.”
Fisher followed Helldor into his magic workshop located downstairs. Sister Ilois had gone back to rest earlier; her stomach hadn’t entirely healed, and running around outside all day had been quite troubleso for her. Besides, magic wasn’t her field of expertise.
Helldor’s magic workshop was his usual residence. When Helldor pushed open the door and entered, a tidy and clean magic workshop was revealed to Fisher’s eyes.
To the left were rows of neat bookshelves, in the center stood a square wooden table adorned with a complete set of magic engraving tools, among which were several drill blades and groove engraving tools Fisher seldom used, indicating that the Helldor before him was an experienced old mage.
The room contained no bed for resting; the remaining space was filled with stacks of pricey magic materials, suitable for engraving various types of materials. As a mage from the Turand family, it was unlikely that Helldor would lack these.
“Zzz… I am sorry, I do not require food or drink, so there are no provisions for entertaining guests in the room. Feel free to look through my things. I also have sothing for you.”
Fisher found a chair and sat down, glancing around the environnt. While Helldor went to a storage area to fetch sothing, Fisher noticed several magic rings on the table, already engraved, and next to them a notebook outlining a magic that he was quite familiar with—the one he had improvised on the island. He hadn’t expected that Helldor had recorded it.
But now, Fisher suddenly thought of a question: Magic Circuits exist above the soul; The Cardinal only copied Helldor’s consciousness onto the Cardinal device, so why could Helldor still continue to engrave magic?
Could it be that his soul was also placed inside the Cardinal device? But the Cardinal had already made it clear that he hadn’t done such a thing…
Before he could find an answer to this question, Helldor suddenly spoke up, disrupting his thoughts,
“Zzz… Seeing Mr. Fisher engrave magic previously sparked my interest, and I took the liberty to record this new barrier magic, thinking it might be useful when searching for new Seals later for Valentina. I also studied so improvents, which Mr. Fisher might check to see if they are reasonable.”
Fisher smiled and took the notebook from the table, noting that Helldor had made so precise changes to the sub-ring, making the barrier’s range and strength more robust, using the nested structure popular with Northern Realm mages so that other magic could still be embedded within this barrier magic.
Emhardt, completely unable to understand what the two mages were writing, flew boredly onto Helldor’s bookshelf and swept through the books, but he didn’t seem to find anything he hadn’t seen before.
“These changes are completely usable, and the design is very ingenious. We didn’t have enough ti back then, and looking back, the magic we designed had many flaws, especially regarding the sub-rings. If we’re not lucky, we could risk a leak of the curse…”
“Zzz… Creating usable magic in such a short ti, even Helson couldn’t do that. Having a student like you is his good fortune.”
Helldor emitted steam from his mouth and then returned to Fisher’s side with a box of magic materials. His tone always carried the rigid sound of machinery, very similar to the Cardinal, but the humanity in his words was so evident that it easily revealed the consciousness within the chanical being before them.
It was unclear whether the Helldor before him truly represented the Helldor in the full sense. Still, Fisher suddenly recalled sothing odd during the dinner when Valentina gave Helldor orders, sensing this might be an opportunity to deepen his understanding of Valentina and even the Turand Family. He casually asked,
“Mr. Helldor, I don’t know if it’s just feeling this way… But I sensed that you were sowhat unhappy when Miss Valentina tasked us with the magic affairs earlier?”
“Zzz…”
Upon hearing Fisher’s inquiry, Helldor’s face, composed of chanical parts, paused slightly, though he didn’t slow the opening of the material box,
“Ah, I am not unhappy, especially toward Valentina, I would never feel that way. It’s just that I am… a bit despondent.”
“Despondent?”
Mr. Helldor shook his head, the light of the Cardinal barely revealing itself on the surface of his body, blurring his existence with the chanical for an instant,
“Zzz… I shouldn’t be telling you so much, but since Miss Valentina has arranged for you and to work together, I have to talk to you about her intentions, as it might bury your talents… I have ntioned your abilities to her, but she doesn’t quite trust you yet, and I hope you can understand.”
“Just as you see, my current appearance doesn’t look like a human at all, right? This is because, several years ago, my original body had beco too old, reaching a point where I had to leave this world… But Valentina couldn’t bear to let go, so she made a deal with a mysterious person on behalf of the family to house my soul in this body of copper skin and iron bones. Honestly, for , a house servant with the ‘Turand’ surna bestowed upon , this is a great favor indeed.”
Before coming to the Northern Realm, Fisher had learned a bit about the Turand Family, as ntioned before, the family mbers all resided in a mysterious Snowflake Fortress never to erge, but after all, they still needed to manage this massive structure standing in the Northern Realm, so they chose the most loyal from among their kin and house servants to bestow upon them their own surna, and Helldor was a house servant who had been given that surna.
“Zzz… I thought I could continue to serve Miss Valentina with this chanical body, but lately, it seems I have been afflicted with another illness… Sotis I suddenly lose consciousness, and sotis I freeze, dreaming of past events. Valentina thinks it’s because I’ve overworked myself, which is why she keeps wanting to stay on the ship. She probably doesn’t want to get involved in the complications of seeking the Wutong Tree anymore…”
Mr. Helldor’s voice was sowhat low, perhaps for soone who had already died once, making the most of his capabilities was what he desired, but clearly, Valentina had deep feelings for him. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have allowed the Turand Family and the Cardinal to strike a deal and specifically create a Cardinal body for a house servant.
The Turand Family agreed to Valentina’s sowhat naïve request, of course, for their own considerations—for instance, why was the task of finding the Frost Snow Phoenix Tree placed on Valentina’s shoulders?
With just a few words, Fisher had received a great deal of information, but he didn’t continue to ask Mr. Helldor for more in-depth answers, as their relationship hadn’t reached that level of intimacy yet.
Mr. Helldor was willing to share this information with Fisher because Valentina had sent him to the magic logistics to slack off, fearing he would conceive thoughts about it.
“Zzz… Don’t mind it, I’ve already died once, and I don’t care about these things, besides, Valentina needs for the search for the Frost Snow Phoenix Tree, she will understand… Let’s not talk about this anymore, Mr. Fisher, I didn’t call you over here to complain. Please, take a look at these things.”
He pointed to the Magic Materials he had just moved over, and Fisher quickly realized that these materials could not only be used for Magic Engraving but were also extrely useful as dicinal herbs, effective in healing diseases and fortifying the body,
“Qatar Yellow Grass Dried, Evergreen Vine, Cold Fruit Powder, Fla Sun Powder… These things aren’t ant for to use for Magic Engraving, are they?”
“Zzz… Earlier, when I saw that rabbit nun, I noticed her constitution was poor. Boiling water with Qatar Yellow Grass Dried, Evergreen Vine Powder, and Cold Fruit Powder and having her drink it could quickly replenish nutrients and improve her constitution, while the Fla Sun Powder… I saw it in a prescription from the Turand Family dical books, it says that applying it to the lower abdon of a pregnant Moon Rabbit Species can quickly remove the appearance of pregnancy. I don’t know if it works, but you can try it.”
Emhardt flew back in shock, and Fisher, taking the herbs, was sowhat amused,
“It’s hard to imagine that there would be dical books in the Turand Family that treat demi-humans…”
“Zzz… This is sothing passed down from the ancestors of the Turand Family, their family library contains many books that would seem astonishing to outsiders, and this is just one of them; otherwise, we wouldn’t have found so many clues about the Six Phoenix Clans.”
Emhardt sat sowhat eagerly on Fisher’s shoulder, craning his neck in anticipation, hoping Mr. Helldor would say more about the Turand Family Library, but unfortunately, he soon held the engraving tools in a steam-breathing grip and invited Fisher,
“Zzz… There’s still a long ti to go, Mr. Fisher, if you’re not tired, would you mind joining in completing a few pieces of High Ring Magic. After I changed into this new body, my Magic Circuits seem to have atrophied quite a bit, no longer capable of engraving High Ring Magic. Hehe, but High Ring Magic will be indispensable in the later operations, this will also allow to once again experience from close range Mr. Fisher’s superb Magic Engraving skills…”
Fisher glanced up at the chanical arm holding the engraving tool, his curiosity piqued about how exactly Mr. Helldor, with a copied consciousness, managed to engrave magic, could it be that the Cardinal’s mory was flawed, and he actually put Mr. Helldor’s soul inside the Cardinal?
“Then I will humbly comply.”
With the Magic Circuit on Fisher’s body lighting up bit by bit, Helldor’s body also shone with a flicker of light no different from that of human Magic Circuits, but within that light was a familiar pale-blue glow, tinged with the mottled substance of a soul mingling with the light of the Cardinal.
“Vvvv…”
Watching the faint blue glow, Fisher’s brow furrowed slightly.
