Chapter 629: Chapter 629: An Unexpected Number of People

Leaving the West Fifth Army First Unit, Yang Yu followed the temporary team assembled and headed towards the rear to counter the mysterious troops sent out by the Luo Ze Empire.

This elite rapid march unit comprised five hundred n, led personally by a Vice General nad Kun Ya, who resembled a white tiger Beastman, missing a corner of his left ear, displaying a wealth of combat experience.

Yang Yu’s troops constituted a fifth of the unit, wielding considerable sway within the team.

Looking carefully around, so Subhuman officers had lowered their status to beco soldiers of the team.

The officers in charge of them naturally weren’t ordinary Squad Leaders, Centurions, nor Centurions; each rank had been elevated at least one level.

Due to the urgency of the situation, the rapid march unit didn’t rest for long on the road. Braving the occasional fine snowfall, they made it to the first stronghold with which contact had been lost.

The dwellings of the camp had been destroyed beyond recognition, thick snow seemingly burying all the sins.

Lotcar sensed sothing and used his feet to brush aside the snow, uncovering a few frozen bodies of Wansheng Country soldiers, hard as rocks.

The wounds on them were exceptionally neat and fatal, either on the chest or above the neck, each strike hitting vitally.

After a thorough inspection of the surroundings, Kun Ya had canine Beastman record the human scents present in the camp and then imdiately had them follow the scents to track the perpetrators.

Even though Beastn possessed capabilities comparable to various beasts, to continuously track a scent through icy and snowy conditions until catching soone was no easy feat.

The rapid march unit passed through several more camps before finally locking onto the operational trail of the Luo Ze Empire’s mysterious troops.

Following this scent, they arrived at a towering city.

Unexpectedly, the city, which Yang Yu’s team had previously conquered, was now missing its Wansheng Country garrison, and the city walls had been taken over by Luoze soldiers.

The Luo Ze Empire seed to have deployed only a few soldiers to guard the city; Kun Ya tasked Yang Yu with capturing so Luoze soldiers for interrogation.

Yang Yu nodded in agreent and quickly comnced action with Lotcar.

Approaching the city wall, Yang Yu used “Climbing” to scale the seven-ter-high wall, ensnaring two soldiers with “Thorny Binding,” then using “Support Charge” to return swiftly to Lotcar’s side, dragging the Luoze soldiers back without any hitches.

The interrogation process was fraught with difficulties, and in the end, Kun Ka stuffed a handful of snow into the soldiers’ clothes before the shivering Luoze Empire soldiers spilled everything they knew.

The sa team that had caused trouble for the Western Fifth Army Second Division and First Unit numbered just over fifty individuals.

This was corroborated by the canine soldiers, who repeatedly confird that the total human scents detected amounted to around fifty.

The Deputy General’s brow furrowed deeply, he kept muttering, “Just over fifty people? Is that truly all there is?”

With such a small number, to create such upheaval at the rear, conquering one stronghold after another, the capabilities of this team must be unfathomably deep.

Yang Yu took out a military manual from the System that he had obtained earlier from the Lu Hua Army.

In addition to the basic military rules, it included war rules set forth by the Dragon God Evaluation Country for both sides of the conflict, which weren’t much different from what Yang Yu had learned before his deploynt.

Apart from the rule that individuals with an Evaluation exceeding S couldn’t participate in combat and the prohibition against the use of large-scale lethal Magic or Skills, there were a few more regulations included by the Dragon God Evaluation Country to prevent massive casualties.

Among them was a rule that didn’t seem so conspicuous, nor did it appear to be frequently invoked.

If a team of more than thirty mbers had an average evaluation level above A, or, obtained a composite evaluation reaching S grade or higher, then for this squad to not be on the frontline battlefield, but instead influencing the war from elsewhere, was considered a violation.

Setting aside whether low-ability individuals would be mixed into high-quality teams to balance the power, the re thought of gathering over thirty A-ranked soldiers was enough to cause a headache.

Yang Yu estimated that, aside from the rookies in his team, in this elite rapid response force, the majority were of skill level B and A-, with those above A level being as rare as phoenix feathers and unicorn horns. Even Kun Ya, the Deputy General leading them, was only at S-.

To find thirty A-ranked soldiers was akin to requesting over half of an army’s elites.

Why not assign all these soldiers within the regular military forces to significantly enhance the combat capabilities of the army? Wouldn’t that be more beneficial?

Why go to such lengths and risk punishnt by the dragon or the possibility of high-value talents being ambushed and destroyed just to organize a special operations team?

This war was still under the supervision of the Dragon God Evaluation Country.

Yang Yu wasn’t clear on the dragons’ abilities or thods of supervision, but since they had not yet intervened to stop it, it indicated that the Luo Ze Empire’s actions were probably still within the war rules set by the dragons.

Kun Ya, like Yang Yu, pondered the sa question, and also asked the two captured soldiers the final question,

“Up on the city walls, which direction did you see those people go?”

Under the pressure of Kun Ya’s intimidating appearance, the two soldiers, desperate to save their lives, reluctantly pointed out the direction to Kun Ya.

Following the direction indicated by the soldiers, Kun Ya sent people to find the faint footprints and the scent of humans, which were not visible from a distance. Only after this did he release the two human soldiers.

Tracking the mysterious squad’s trail, Kun Ya, Lotcar, and other beastn with keen senses could sll the increasingly strong scent of humans in the air.

Leaving the area with occasional light snowfall, the human footprints on the ground beca clearer and clearer, and then, the rapid response team arrived at a beastman stronghold.

A tragedy had also taken place there; not a single beastman soldier stationed at the stronghold had survived.

Their cheeks had lost their color, pale in the cold winter.

In the center of the disheveled tents, the simple stove for cooking still stood resolute, its wood burned to black char.

Kun Ya stuck his hand into the char, feeling a bit of lingering warmth. He opened the pot to see the food remnants still liquid, not entirely frozen.

Those bastards, not only did they kill the beastman soldiers, but they also brazenly took the food from their army to cook and eat.

Unforgivable, utterly unforgivable. I will crush them all into pieces.

Kun Ya bared his teeth in anger, but quickly, he curbed his rage. To give them a taste of their own dicine, he absolutely could not allow himself to lose his cool and the ability to judge,

“Attention, all troops! The enemy is not far from us now. Do not miss any detail and be ready for battle at any mont.”

At Kun Ya’s command, the rapid response team imdiately ford up in rank and file, their faces showing no fear. Witnessing this scene, a surge of unprecedented anger flooded the hearts of every beastman soldier.
