Now reading: Chapter 595: Krissya and Xenovia are thinking from Demonic Dragon: Harem System, a Action novel by Katanexy.

The jungle vibrated with a constant chorus of sounds. The cawing of strange birds, the high-pitched buzz of unseen insects, the rustling of leaves stirred by a heavy, humid breeze. The air was thick, sticky to the skin, and each step felt like a double effort against treacherous roots and vines that clung to her legs.

Xenovia shouldered a thick branch, her breathing a little heavy. Her light purple hair, once straight and flawless, was tangled and covered in dry leaves. Grains of dirt and dust clung to her sweaty skin, further staining the simplicity of her clothing: just a worn black sports bra and ripped shorts that barely reached mid-thigh.

Behind her ca Kryssia, her blue hair equally disheveled, plastered in wet strands against her face and back. Her pale eyes blinked irritably against the light leaking through the canopy, and with each step she flicked insects away, freezing them into tiny ice crystals that fell to the ground. Her own light blue bra was stained with mud and scratches, and her shorts clung uncomfortably to her thighs, betraying days of improvised survival.

"I hate this place," Kryssia muttered, kicking hard at a fallen log. The impact scattered splinters of wood, which quickly froze under the icy aura that involuntarily escaped her. "It’s as if the forest itself swallows us with every step."

Xenovia didn’t answer imdiately. She continued making her way, her eyes trained on the ground and the trees. When she finally spoke, her voice was firm, as if she were conserving her strength to keep her frustration from escaping.

"Complaining won’t change anything. What we need to do is decide how we’re going to get out of here."

Kryssia huffed. "And how do you intend to do that? We’re not dragons. We don’t have the sa damn wings they do." She raised her arms, revealing her own dirty body. "We’re just... cultivators trapped in human flesh and bones."

Xenovia stopped suddenly, spinning around to face her. Her eyes, though tired, burned with an intense fla.

"Don’t underestimate what we have." Her voice held a dangerous weight. "I have the black flas. You have the ice. Together, we can cross the sea."

Kryssia arched her eyebrows, laughing sarcastically. "Cross the sea? You’re crazy. You’re talking about walking on water as if it were solid ground."

"It’s not madness, it’s perspective." Xenovia took a step forward, the dark aura beginning to leak from her skin, rippling like a mirage of black flas. The air around her distorted, and even the nearby insects recoiled. "Fire doesn’t just have to burn. It can sustain itself. My feet can find purchase where there is none."

Kryssia scowled, but her eyes glead defiantly. "And what do I do? Freeze the entire ocean?"

"Not the ocean." Xenovia gave a half-smile, almost predatory. "Just enough to forge a path. While I burn and create support, you freeze and reinforce. One step at a ti."

Kryssia was silent for a few monts, her blue eyes roaming the ground as if pondering every possible flaw in this plan. The Kraken ca imdiately to mind. The waves, the tentacles, the darkness. Instinct scread danger.

"You’re forgetting one detail." Her voice was low, cold as the layers of ice that dominated. "There’s a monster waiting for us out there. It’s not a legend, Xenovia. We’ve seen it. It’s always there."

"I haven’t forgotten." Xenovia leaned forward slightly, the shadow of a smile forming. "I’m counting on it."

Kryssia blinked in surprise. "Counting on... this?"

"If we wait for the right mont, it will never co." Xenovia raised her hand and let a small black fla blossom in her palm. Unlike ordinary fire, it didn’t illuminate. Instead, it seed to devour the light around it, darkening the air around it. "The only way out is to hunt the hunter."

Kryssia crossed her arms, suspicious. "You’re suggesting... killing the Kraken."

"Exactly."

For a mont, the jungle seed to fall silent around them. Even the wind died down, as if the forest was waiting for the answer.

Kryssia laughed, but without mirth. "You say it as if it were simple. A matter of... perspective, as you said."

Xenovia approached her, her purple eyes flashing. "Because it is. We are cultivators. Our abilities are no less than any dragon’s. You command the cold. I command the unquenchable fire. If we combine these, we can turn the ocean into our battlefield."

Kryssia’s heart beat faster, though her expression remained skeptical. She knew Xenovia wasn’t the type to be defeated by obstacles. That stubbornness had always been irritating and... inspiring.

"You’re crazy," Kryssia muttered, but without firmness.

"Perhaps you’re the one who grounded her more." Xenovia smiled, tilting her head to the side. "But madness moves mountains."

They continued walking, their words echoing between roots and shadows. The forest was too dense, almost suffocating. Twisted trunks ford strange shapes, as if the wood had been shaped by invisible hands. In certain spots, the air seed heavier, as if the spiritual energy of the place was vibrating excessively.

"Do you feel that?" Kryssia broke the silence, frowning.

Xenovia nodded. "Yes. The energy flow is... unstable. As if sothing were alive within the island itself."

"I don’t like it." Kryssia narrowed her eyes. "It’s like we’re being watched."

Xenovia didn’t answer. She simply let a black fla blossom in her hand, using it to burn away the small vines blocking the path. The dark light wavered strangely, as if absorbing the shadows of the jungle and spitting them back out in wisps of smoke.

They walked in silence for a few minutes, each lost in their own thoughts. Xenovia’s proposal kept echoing in Kryssia’s mind. Cross the sea. Face the Kraken. Survive. It was insane... but at the sa ti, it was the first ti in six months that anyone had talked about doing more than just waiting.

Xenovia, on the other hand, didn’t waver. Her eyes scanned the surroundings restlessly, attentive to every movent among the leaves. Sothing was wrong. The flow of spiritual energy was growing increasingly agitated, pulsing in irregular waves.

It was then that she stopped suddenly.

Kryssia almost bumped into her back. "What is it?"

Xenovia raised her hand, signaling silence. Her eyes narrowed, and black flas flared around her fists, as subtle as the breath of a stalking predator.

"Don’t you feel it?" Her voice was low, but thick with tension.

Kryssia closed her eyes for a mont, expanding her awareness. The cold air around her intensified, covering her skin with goosebumps. And then, she felt it too.

A subtle shift. A different weight. As if the forest had stopped to listen.

Kryssia’s eyes snapped open, and ice began to form on her skin, running like crystalline tattoos down her arms.

"Sothing’s coming."

Xenovia took a deep breath, her eyes flashing. "Finally."
