Chapter 334: Back to the Grind
“Separating you from doesn’t work.”
Even after years of distance, she was still just as infatuated with her big brother as before, if not worse.
“Duh.” Alice’s reply ca imdiately, as obvious as breathing. She even gave him a look as though he had just declared the sky was blue.
Kaiden pinched the bridge of his nose. “… We’ll have to ask Mother for so sort of arrangent. Because if you go rogue every ti soone so much as looks at funny, it’s not going to end well. What you did today wasn’t just reckless for your future; it put at risk, too. What if the world puts the pieces together? The deal was that I would never be associated with the Ashborns. If their youngest daughter keeps showing up to murder my enemies, people will connect the dots. They are already asking so many questions about my existence; the last thing I want is to grant them more ammunition.”
Alice, of course, tuned out most of that. Her eyes lit up at the very first part. “What sort of arrangent?!”
“…” Kaiden exhaled once again, then leaned back in his chair. Ti to enter negotiator mode. “What would help your heart calm down enough not to repeat what happened today?”
“I want to hug and kiss big brother every night before going to sleep in his arms!” she declared instantly, chest puffed with pride at her perfect request.
“No.”
“Ugh!” She yanked on her restraints. “Okay, then just sleep togeth-”
“No.”
“Big brother!” she whined, voice cracking, but his unimpressed stare didn’t even blink. “Going on dates?”
“No.”
Alice puffed her cheeks to the limit, red eyes sparking furiously. “Fine! For now, I’ll settle for visiting you and doing normal sibling activities! But I refuse to concede any more!”
“Okay. Deal.”
“Yaaayyy!!” Alice’s squeal rang out so joyfully that it almost shook the reinforced chamber walls.
“Now we just have to get Mother to agree.”
“Leave that to , big brother.” She winked at him.
“… Alright.” Kaiden was simply too tired to argue anymore.
He rose to his feet, and then, after a pause, he extended his hand toward the transparent wall separating them.
Alice’s breath caught. Her eyes went wide, shining like twin stars, before she strained forward in her restraints as if trying to cross the barrier herself. She couldn’t, of course, but it didn’t matter. She closed her eyes with a blissful smile, humming happily as he mid gentle headpats on the other side of the wall.
“Hang in there, sister,” Kaiden murmured softly.
“Mmnnn~” Alice purred like a pampered cat, lting at the imaginary touch.
Kaiden lingered only a mont longer before turning on his heel and leaving the chamber. The heavy doors groaned shut behind him.
…
“Your little sister is wild, dude,” Rae chuckled as soon as he stepped outside.
“I’m tired.”
“Hahaha! I bet. Alice Ashborn makes even look like a saint. Anyhow, let’s go back. I’m sure your ladies will be happy to cheer you up,” she winked while patting him on the back.
Just like that, Kaiden’s visit to the secret, awakened prison facility had concluded.
Now, it was ti to move forward.
And move forward they did.
Valhalla’s Sinners did not stop streaming. Not for a day.
The mont they went live, the hate ca crashing in.
Every broadcast was a battlefield. The chat scrolled with venom.
“Fraud!”
“Who did you sell your soul to get your powers?!”
“Free the won, coward!”
The like-dislike ratio looked like a massacre, and every video upload bled with comnts so toxic it was as though the entire viewerbase had declared war on them.
And yet, the Sinners kept going.
No matter the venom, no matter the sneers and threats, they stread every single day. Their voices never faltered, their performances never slowed, their smiles never disappeared.
Because they understood one thing: the mont they stopped, the haters would feel like they were winning, adding even more motivation to continue the hate train.
So they pushed on.
One day bled into the next, then another. A week passed, and a full cycle of firestorms endured.
And on the seventh night, Kaiden found himself seated in Luna’s “gar girl throne,” a ridiculously plush neon-lit couch covered in far too many pillows. A blanket was draped lazily around them both, cocooning them in cozy warmth.
Luna sat snugly in Kaiden’s lap with a controller in hand. Her tongue was peeking out at the corner of her lips as the TV screen exploded with gunfire and neon chaos. Kaiden was playing alongside her in the match, his own controller held loosely, but his head kept bobbing forward, eyes fluttering shut as exhaustion gnawed at him.
It didn’t take long for them to lose.
“For fuck’s sake! These corner-hugging clowns! Imagine loading up a ga and being like ‘I’ll spend the next five hours sitting in the corner and camping! It’s gonna be so much fun!'” Luna launched into a cute little curse spree. But when she glanced over, she didn’t see frustration reflected back, only Kaiden’s head dipping forward, half a second from nodding off entirely.
Her expression transford in an instant. A giant, loving smile broke across her face, radiant and warm. All her annoyance at the ga vanished.
Kaiden felt her shift in his lap, her perky butt pushing against him as she set her controller aside and turned around to face him. She leaned in close, letting her purple hair spill over his chest as her eyes glittered with mischief and love.
He didn’t need prompting. Even drained, even seconds away from sleep, Kaiden was always ready to embrace his girls. His hand slid down, cupping her soft curves and massaging her delicious butt with a squeeze.
“Touching my butt is an instinct to you at this point, Kai!” Luna giggled softly, then leaned in further until their lips t. The kiss started tender but quickly deepened, becoming a long, unhurried exchange filled with warmth. They didn’t close their eyes; instead, they kept staring into each other, love and trust flowing freely between them.
For Kaiden, the weight of exhaustion lted away in that gaze. The world could despise them, the haters could rage, but right here, wrapped in a blanket, in Luna’s arms, in her kiss, he felt untouchable.
