Capítulo 1493: Chapter 1180: Giving Up (First Update)

Revakri Base · Artificial teor No. 273.

Federation Special Stationed Base · Inside a conference room.

High-ranking Federation officials were fiercely debating. The most assertive among them was a young man with a sharp look and a strong presence.

He said forcefully, “When there’s no hope, things must be abandoned!”

Everyone present couldn’t help but lower their heads.

“Jimambu, what do you an by aningless? There are our companions on that fortress, and each one of them is very important to us.”

At this mont, a steady voice retorted.

Everyone looked over; the one who spoke was none other than Augustus!

Since the last ti the Star Gate opened, Spade had returned to the Federation, and Augustus had been assigned to the front line.

“Lord Augustus, there’s no problem with what you’re saying, and it pains to make such decisions. But you must understand one thing, the Freedom Fortress has been missing for over two years. Since the beginning of its disappearance, we’ve sent so many ships and manpower to search, the financial and material expenditure could build another one. And the result? Still nothing; we’ve tried everything, even commissioned tasks to Star Ring City; isn’t that enough?”

“Hmph, can our companions be asured with money?”

Augustus opposed firmly.

“That’s right, our companions indeed cannot be asured with money. But you also need to consider the rescuers; from the beginning of the search until now, how many have been killed or injured? Their lives are lives too, I can’t allow such tragedies to repeat.”

Jimambu stared directly at Augustus without a hint of backing down.

The many NCOs and counciln present didn’t dare to voice their opinion.

Jimambu was the representative of the new generation’s hardliners, acting swiftly and decisively.

Only the old-fashioned Vice Speaker, Augustus, dared to oppose like this.

“Any act of abandoning a desperate companion is disgraceful. No matter how high the cost, we cannot give up. The rescue mission must not be terminated!”

Augustus remained unmoved, determined to continue the rescue. He knew better than anyone that the people on the fortress were the Federation’s elite, not to ntion Li Ruiqi was still up there.

Back when the Federation’s first exploration ship, the Black Brilliance, was commanded by Li Ruiqi, no one knew better than he how talented Li Ruiqi was.

“Augustus, you’re right, but we also need to consider the Federation. This rescue plan has cost the Federation too much funding. The Federation has barely stepped into the great era, it’s on the rise; we can’t continue to invest money in this project. To be honest, yesterday the Federation Governnt Council passed a decision to stop funding this rescue plan, and later the task posted in Star Ring City will be revoked.”

Jimambu laid it out directly to Augustus.

Augustus slamd the table heavily and said in a deep voice, “Hmph, even if the council won’t provide funding, I must continue the rescue; I will solve the funding and personnel issues myself.”

“Lord Augustus, I’m afraid that won’t do.”

Jimambu flatly rejected.

“What I want to do is none of your business, is it?”

Augustus was a bit angry too. Although he understood that Jimambu had so points, it was also a bit overbearing.

Jimambu then tapped a few tis on his electronic bracelet, opened an electronic authorization docunt, and said to Augustus.

“Augustus, the Federation Council has issued a special directive, requiring you to set sail from Revakri Base and imdiately return to the Federation. The Federation Council has new assignnts for you. I hope you can follow the Federation’s orders, think of the bigger picture, and not hold onto things that are hopeless. You know better than anyone what being lost in the stars ans; there’s basically no hope. And don’t expect help from Star Ring City; no one will help us without reason. That’s the harsh reality of this world.”

After listening to Jimambu’s words, Augustus also fell into silence.

At this mont, his companions beside him beca anxious and said to him.

“My lord, this….”

“Sigh~”

Augustus finally sighed helplessly, raised his hand to signal everyone to be silent, and said to Jimambu, “I will comply with the orders.”

Hearing Augustus’s words, many of the NCOs present showed looks of despair.

Yet no one complained because everyone understood that Jimambu wasn’t speaking without reason.

The Federation had already paid an extrely high price to search for the Freedom Fortress, and Augustus had already done his best. If it weren’t for him holding on, perhaps the rescue plan wouldn’t have persisted until today.

The entire eting room plunged into dead silence.

As evening approached.

Artificial teor No. 273 · Interstellar Airport.

A class 5 flagship, Wind Shuttle Fish, sat quietly there.

NCOs were loading so carried items onto the ship.

At the boarding entrance, Jimambu personally led many NCOs to bid farewell to Augustus.

Jimambu extended his hand to Augustus, and the two shook hands.

“Lord Augustus, your contributions to the Federation are evident to all of us. This return will surely result in you being heavily used by the council, taking on more important positions.”

“I’ve just done what needed to be done.”

Augustus replied nonchalantly.

“Lord Augustus, you’re too humble….”

Just as Jimambu was about to say goodbye to Augustus.

A subordinate suddenly rushed over. About to report sothing, upon seeing Augustus, he switched to speak to Jimambu, “Sir, there’s a docunt that needs your attention.”

Jimambu’s expression shifted slightly, then he said to Augustus.

“I’m sorry, Lord Augustus, I have so matters to attend to first.”

“Mm.”

Augustus didn’t say much more.

Jimambu and the subordinate then walked toward the distance.

Augustus looked at Jimambu’s back with a hint of doubt, then glanced at a blond-haired beauty beside him.

The blond-haired beauty understood and left.

In the distance, Jimambu looked at the subordinate before him and asked, “What’s the situation?”

The subordinate reported excitedly to Jimambu.

“Lord Jimambu, we’ve just received word that soone accepted the task we posted in Star Ring City.”

Jimambu frowned and then said, “How is it possible, who would take our task?”

Under normal circumstances, no one would accept tasks posted by the Federation, let alone such a dangerous one.

“Sir, does this an the rescue can continue?”

The subordinate asked tentatively.
