The laughter never left Ludwig, not even as the countless suspended weapons hanging above the arena began trembling in place. The movent was subtle at first, almost imperceptible beneath the overwhelming pressure saturating the amphitheater.
A spear near the western edge dipped slightly before correcting itself. A floating sword rotated half an inch too far before jerking back into alignnt. Tiny imperfections that, on their own, ant absolutely nothing.
Together, however, they were catastrophic.
And Ludwig knew exactly why it was happening.
The instability had nothing to do with his aura, nor the wrath leaking endlessly through Noctivex. The weapons trembled because the authority sustaining them had started to fracture from within. Pride’s control remained monstrously powerful, still crushing the arena beneath its weight, but it was no longer perfect.
Pride himself still stood at the center of the amphitheater exactly as before. Golden skin untouched. Posture immaculate. Chin raised with the sa unbearable certainty that made him feel less like a living creature and more like an idea that had forced reality to shape itself into human form. Every movent radiated superiority so complete it almost beca oppressive to witness.
But Ludwig had already seen enough.
The flaw was no longer hidden.
It hovered openly above them now, hanging in plain sight alongside the shaking weapons.
"You misunderstand," Pride said, his voice calm, level, and imdiate in a way that felt almost instinctive.
Ludwig’s grin widened beneath Noctivex.
That was another response. Another correction. Another reflexive need to engage and defend his position. Pride simply could not stop himself from digging deeper.
"No," Pride continued, his golden gaze fixed entirely on Ludwig now. "Preparation is not learning. Adaptation implies deficiency. I possess no such flaw."
Ludwig nearly doubled over laughing.
The sound exploded through the shattered amphitheater, echoing violently off fractured marble and broken mirrors while the floating weapons above vibrated faintly alongside their master’s growing instability. It wasn’t restrained amusent anymore. It was genuine laughter, sharp and vicious, dragged out of him by the absurdity of what he was hearing.
"Oh, this is beautiful," Ludwig muttered as he straightened himself, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his gauntlet. "You really don’t hear yourself, do you?"
Pride’s expression hardened.
The shift was microscopic, so small most people would never have noticed it. A slight tightening around the jaw. A near invisible twitch beneath one eye.
But Ludwig saw it instantly.
And that made it worse.
Ludwig stepped forward slowly, Nightbreaker dragging behind him and carving a deep groove through the marble floor. The grinding scrape of tal echoed through the arena like deliberate mockery.
"You changed your opening move."
"I optimized an inevitability."
"That’s called adapting."
"It is not."
"You accounted for future behavior."
"I acknowledged a repeated variable."
"That’s called learning."
Pride’s eyes narrowed.
The pressure inside the arena surged violently in response. Gold scattered throughout the amphitheater began lifting from the ground as invisible force rippled outward from Pride’s body in unstable waves. Cracks spread beneath his feet in expanding circles, splitting the marble apart while the atmosphere itself grew heavier.
"It is categorically different," Pride said, and for the first ti since Ludwig had t him, there was sothing buried beneath the absolute calm in his voice.
Not power, he had plenty of that. No, this ti it was emotion.
Small. Ugly. Buried beneath impossible restraint.
But undeniably there. Undeniably visible, squirming beneath that perfect gold.
Ludwig saw it imdiately and pressed harder without hesitation.
"No, no, keep going," he said, pointing directly at Pride with obvious delight. "Explain it to ."
And Pride did.
Which imdiately beca his next mistake.
"I do not learn," Pride said. "Learning implies absence. I rely reassert correct response in accordance with available information."
Ludwig blinked once before slowly raising a hand to cover the lower half of his helt, physically restraining himself from laughing too hard.
"That might be the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard."
The sentence landed harder than Nightbreaker ever had.
For the first ti since the battle began, Pride’s face visibly shifted. Again, the movent was small by ordinary standards. A tightening of the jaw. Another twitch beneath the eye. The smallest crack imaginable in his otherwise flawless stillness.
But it existed.
And that alone was devastating.
Ludwig could practically see the contradiction tearing through him now. Pride had cornered himself completely. If he admitted change, then Ludwig was right. If he denied change while actively demonstrating it, then Ludwig was still right.
There was no escape left.
No rhetorical retreat.
No philosophical defense. A trapped rat in front of a tiger. Though the rat in this case was basically a demigod.
Pride had built his entire existence upon immutable perfection, and Ludwig had managed to do what nobody else ever could.
He had forced motion into sothing that defined itself through stillness.
"You’re trapped," Ludwig said, his voice lowering slightly now, the amusent still there but sharpened into sothing crueler.
Sothing in Pride’s face twitched again.
"Do you get it now?" Ludwig asked, tilting his head slightly. "You can’t win this anymore."
The words caused the air itself to shudder. Not because Ludwig had activated a skill, and not because Wrath had surged outward again. The reaction ca from Pride’s authority itself beginning to destabilize.
Hairline fractures spread across the golden do overhead, thin cracks racing outward like spiderwebs through divine glass. Several suspended weapons abruptly lost their support and clattered uselessly onto the marble floor below, the sound echoing sharply through the suddenly unstable arena.
Pride did not move.
He remained standing exactly where he was, posture flawless, stance perfect, expression restrained with obsessive precision.
Yet for the first ti since Ludwig had encountered him, that perfection looked artificial rather than absolute.
"No," Pride said quietly.
The word ca out thinner than before. Not weak. Not uncertain.
But damaged.
Like sothing foundational beneath it had started to crack.
Ludwig’s eyes sharpened imdiately.
There.
That was it.
Not anger.
Not fear.
Sothing far worse.
Doubt.
It was microscopic, barely even ford. A thought so small Pride himself likely hadn’t consciously acknowledged it yet.
But it existed.
And for a being like him, that alone was terminal.
A blue notification suddenly flashed before Ludwig’s eyes.
[Condition Fulfilled.]
[Pride has faltered.]
[You can now inspect Pride.]
Ludwig’s grin widened so far it nearly split his face beneath Noctivex.
"Oh, you poor bastard."
He activated inspection imdiately, and a translucent window materialized before him.

Ludwig stared at the window for a brief mont before another burst of laughter escaped him.
"One health point," he said, shaking his head slightly in disbelief. "All this bullshit."
Pride remained silent.
But Ludwig could see it now.
Now that inspection had beco possible, the illusion had finally collapsed, not physically, but conceptually. Pride was still overwhelmingly powerful. Still capable of crushing Ludwig outright if given the opportunity.
But none of that mattered anymore.
Because Ludwig finally understood the truth.
He had never needed to overpower Pride.
He only needed to make him mortal.
Ludwig rested Nightbreaker across his shoulder and grinned beneath Noctivex, the expression hidden but unmistakable in his voice.
"Well," he said quietly, almost delighted now. He took a long exaggerated breath, "Do you feel it?" he said as his eyes locked onto pride. "Do you feel it waning? That fleeting hope of yours?"
