I took Alia's request as first priority and that ant we would have to infiltrate and manipulate the system they have built and use it against them. How? Where were about to find out.
"Captain, why don't we ask your contact who gave us this list?" Dante asked.
Still recovering from the suffering, I went through, sitting on my chair, my head in my palm. I looked up at him slowly, everyone else stopped to hear what I am about to say. "She's too Red for it." I told him. "Might as well look for soone else."
They all looked at surprised. It had so long since we used such codes to tell if it's good to carry on with the situation or not. Red ans they are a major risk if we go with them, Blue ans they are being suspected of defection, Black ans that they are not safe and will betray us and White ans that they are not a liability to the mission. Those were the most common colour codes we would use for certain individuals during our missions.
Certainly, I would have made a mistake classifying as such, however it was not the case, and it seed uncanny in the way the events played out. "Hey, Cap! I think I have soone in mind," Donny said.
Everyone's heads turned to face Donny. We didn't have much to work with and I was slightly amused. "No, Donny, we told him we wouldn't," Marie warned him. I raised my finger in protest and asked Donny to tell who he had in mind.
"Umm, while Veronicah and I were Social Service Sector, we t an old man probably in his fifties or older. He seed aloof and his stature in the city accentuated his deanour. He approached us and gave us a very ominous warning about this city. What he told us was, 'You are by mistake, you should leave before things get worse.'." Donny said.
"Hmm," I grunted.
"Look, Captain I shouldn't have kept this from you, but I couldn't bring myself to tell you all this when the mission was always top priority and that we needed to keep everyone in shape and concentrated,"
"Who gave you that call?"
"What? … umm… no one, Captain,"
"If you had told would the mission have been stopped by ?"
"Uh, no,"
"Donny, we went through way worse than this, not only that, but I also don't put the mission first before my team. I take the risk of keeping you safe, mistakes were made and I resolved them for your benefit and for your survival. You had no authority to withhold this information from , what if it's necessary for the mission! If you want to keep your things to yourselves you can, but this is not one of them. I don't nor have I oppressed you all, so, I kindly ask you to not make dire disregarding actions against ! It can an life or death for all of us,"
"Captain, he made one stupid mistake, you can't ridicule him this much for sothing small," Marie defended.
Turning my head, I locked on her eyes with mine and my eyepatch vanished showing her my left eye. She gazed deep into my eye curious, and a sudden rush of fear overca her. Her legs gave from underneath her body, making her collapse down to floor, breathing erratically and rapidly.
The others witnessed the event and helped her up. "Marie, what happened?" Donny asked her. She was too fear struck to even utter a word. My eyepatch returned to cover my left eye once more and got up to get sothing to drink.
Suddenly, my body beca overwheld by hunger, and my ravenous instincts were slowly surfacing to override my physical control over my body. I then rembered that my pills were slipped out of my pocket in soone's hands.
Looking around the kitchen, bloodlust building up, I looked for food. Rummaged through the fridge, I ate what I could get my hands on to satiate my hunger for the ti being. How soone took them out, I was careless to let it happen. Then Veronicah walked up shocked discovering devour the food.
She smirked and her lips parted, "It seems even the captain must feast like the humans. It is very humorous."
I gave her an infuriated side glare, then I cald myself down and spoke slowly, "If I don't eat any food, flesh would be my next al. Now, I have to create more pills to impede from hunting flesh. I am a potential threat to the team if I don't keep my hunger in check," I told her.
"Oh! I fierce leader is afraid of himself. The well-known demon-angel terrified by his own nature. Why does it co to your attention now! During the war you didn't have this conscious. Then, why now is it that you have one,"
"I always had one. For example, if I hadn't, the war would have raged on and far more of the angels would have been massacred. Questioning that alone would not be fruitful. Now answer this, why have you left your ho in pretence of exile,"
"What!?!"
"Don't act surprised Veronicah!"
"I cannot tell you that. Let's just leave that topic," she said.
Veronicah got upset with that question and it showed that she had sothing to hide though I had no intention of prying into her secrets, so, I left it be. She looked in the eyes and parted her lips, "What did you do to Marie?" asking with concern.
I showed her what was to happen when she would retaliate or go against . I do not do that often only once in a blue moon and when I deem necessary. I had to show her the consequences of following such thought around . Doing that to her showed rcy.
"She saw sothing she didn't like," I responded plainly.
"What was it she saw?" she asked further.
"I don't know what she saw, I never know,"
"…"
"…"
"I will leave you alone. Bye Captain,"
"Leave the team?"
"No, I am leaving you to spend your ti alone,"
She walked out the kitchen and slamd the door behind her, making a loud thud. Veronicah was frustrated, and I wondered what could have been the cause. I know what you want to do, bla it on . Reader, I know what you may have thought and don't be surprised by it.
After a while, briefing the team on the next course of action, a little unease filled the room, and distrust was seeping into the team and I noticed it. They lost trust in , but I couldn't let that deter our work together.
We needed to form a plan.
