Upon entering Shilin Town, Chu Qingyun's group of five fell silent. They communicated only through glances and hand signals, carefully weaving through streets and alleys, using every shadow to conceal themselves as they crept toward the town center.
Halfway there, Xia He, who was leading the way, suddenly raised a hand. The five of them imdiately stopped, crouching down behind a wall.
Xia He possessed a Tier Four Martial Soul, and his senses were a notch stronger than even Chu Qingyun's.
Following the direction Xia He indicated, Chu Qingyun and the other three carefully extended their senses to investigate. Sure enough, they discovered a hidden Martial Soul Hall sentry post at a key location on the path ahead.
Two figures were inside, moving occasionally. They were almost impossible to spot without looking closely.
At once, the four of them frowned.
These hidden sentries were the most troubleso things to deal with.
Their purpose wasn't to engage or kill enemies, but simply to sound an alarm.
The mont they saw, heard, or sensed any disturbance, they would imdiately raise the alarm, alerting every other mber of the Martial Soul Hall.
If they couldn't take out that sentry post silently, Chu Qingyun's infiltration plan would be a complete failure.
At a signal from Chu Qingyun, the five of them silently retreated a short distance, returning to the alley they had just left.
"What now? Do we go around or take them out?"
Xiao Feng asked in a very low whisper.
Xia He shook his head. "Going around is useless. We're already close to the Town Mayor's Mansion. To bypass those two, we'd have to make a huge detour, and I suspect the Martial Soul Hall has hidden sentries at every key location near the mansion."
"You all wait here. I'll go take care of them," Chu Qingyun said quietly after a mont of thought.
"By yourself? Isn't that too dangerous?"
Chu Qingyun rolled his eyes. "They're just two sentries, not even ninth-level Martial Artists. You're really underestimating your captain. More people will just increase the risk of being exposed. Wait here."
After speaking, Chu Qingyun didn't exit from the mouth of the alley opposite the sentry post. Instead, he looped around from the other end, moving away from Xia He and the others first.
Only after he could no longer sense the Qi of Xia He and the others did Chu Qingyun breathe a sigh of relief.
'Hidden Qi Technique!'
'Stealth!'
After activating the Hidden Qi Technique and the power of his Shadow Martial Soul, Chu Qingyun's body blurred, as if vanishing into the night. His Qi was suppressed to the absolute limit; even a relatively low-level Martial Spirit might not have been able to detect him.
With this double layer of security, Chu Qingyun moved forward as if he were walking through an empty land.
He easily circled around the side of the sentry post and crept up behind them. Not only did the two Martial Soul Hall mbers inside fail to notice him, but even Xia He and the others were completely unaware of any disturbance.
He crept right up to the door of the sentry post. Peeking through a crack, Chu Qingyun saw two Martial Artists in black, vigilantly peering out the window.
For the past half-month, the Martial Soul Hall mbers in Shilin Town had been exceptionally vigilant. Many patrolled outside the town during the day, and at night, all the hidden sentry posts were activated.
Furthermore, from top to bottom, all laziness and slacking were strictly forbidden. Anyone caught would be severely punished!
'So dedicated. A pity it's all for nothing...'
In the darkness, Chu Qingyun let out a silent, cold smile.
He unleashed his Ten-star Vine Martial Soul. Four vines sprouted and silently snaked into the room through a transom window high above the door.
Under the effect of the Hidden Qi Technique, the Qi of the Ten-Star Vine was also suppressed to its absolute limit.
Besides, the two n were focused only on what was in front, completely oblivious to what was behind them.
The vines advanced silently. Under Chu Qingyun's control, the four vines suddenly dropped from above. In an instant, two of them wrapped tightly around the n's necks, preventing them from making a single sound.
The other two vines quickly bound their arms and legs, immobilizing them completely and making it impossible to signal an alarm.
'Die!'
Chu Qingyun gave a cold command in his mind, and the four vines tightened with full force.
The two sentries were rely sixth and seventh-level Martial Artists. Against a ninth-level Martial Artist's Tier Three Martial Soul, they resisted for only a mont before the vines snapped their necks, their bodies dissolving into clouds of Martial Soul Power.
Ard with the two ultimate weapons of the Hidden Qi Technique and the Shadow Martial Soul, Chu Qingyun's assassination skills were truly master-class. Dealing with two low-level sentries was almost too easy.
After finishing them off, Chu Qingyun didn't enter the building. He circled around the post to the front and waved his arm at Xia He and the others.
When they saw a figure waving from the other side, expressions of astonishnt appeared on the faces of Xia He and the other three.
'Chu Qingyun actually succeeded, and so quickly!'
'And without making a single sound!'
All four of them had been ready to charge in and provide backup the mont Chu Qingyun was exposed.
Still, surprised as they were, they quickly rushed over to join Chu Qingyun and continued onward.
After successfully passing the sentry post, the rest of the journey was much simpler. After avoiding two patrol squads, Chu Qingyun's group of five found a seemingly hidden spot behind the Town Mayor's Mansion, leaped over the high wall, and dropped inside.
The patrols and defenses inside the mansion were, contrary to expectations, much more relaxed than those outside.
The people from the Martial Soul Hall probably never imagined that soone could bypass all their visible and hidden sentries without making a sound.
Unfamiliar with the layout of the Town Mayor's Mansion, the five of them wandered around inside for a while like headless chickens.
Along the way, they spotted so people, even a few Martial Artists. However, the night was still young, so there was no need to act rashly. It was better to scout the terrain first.
However, just as the five of them were hiding behind a rockery, preparing to cross a courtyard, they saw four Martial Artists from the Martial Soul Hall in the corridor ahead. They were hastily carrying a middle-aged man who was bound tightly and had a rag stuffed in his mouth.
"Mmmph... you... I... fuck..."
The middle-aged man was slung over the shoulders of the four, yet he continued to twist and struggle, muffled roars escaping his mouth. Though his words were unclear, he was obviously cursing the four n carrying him.
"Heh, we gagged you and you still won't shut up. Just you wait, we'll teach you a lesson soon enough!"
"Why waste your breath on him? There are still many more to go. Hurry up! The Great Xia Dragon Guards might be here to wipe us out tomorrow. We need to hurry and process them. Every single one counts!"
"Haha, these stupid country bumpkins actually thought pies would fall from the sky, that the Shilin Town Mayor would be handing out Primordial Stones. It's so funny I could die..."
The three of them chatted as they walked, but their pace didn't slow in the slightest. They quickly disappeared down the corridor.
