The Ghost Wolves reacted swiftly, leaping aside just as the sword energy approached, but one was still caught by the edge of the attack, its body split in half, letting out a pained howl.
"Awooo!"
But this howl did not scare away the pack of Ghost Wolves; instead, it ignited their ferocity.
Their speed increased as they reached Herbert simultaneously, viciously lunging at his vital areas.
Neck, throat, back of the head...
Their bites not only caused Physical Damage but also impacted the target's soul, causing temporary dizziness, making it easier for them to devour.
Beasts show no rcy.
They just relentlessly tear their prey apart with all their might.
A dead prey is a good prey.
However... an arrogant strongman might.
Herbert didn't dodge but let the fangs, which could easily pierce leather armor, bite into him.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sound of tal clashing was heard as the fangs t his body.
"It doesn't hurt."
Feeling the bites that didn't break defense and the barely perceptible soul impact, Herbert revealed a delighted smile.
"Is this the best you can do? Is this your limit?"
Just as the wolves realized sothing was wrong and were about to retreat, Herbert's body sprouted dozens of spikes.
Stab! Stab! Stab!
So of the Ghost Wolves, unable to Spiritualize in ti, were pierced through their skulls, dying instantly.
Blood mist erupted around Herbert, staining his clothes red.
The few Ghost Wolves that were quick enough to Spiritualize tried to flee, but they were beheaded one by one by Herbert's sword.
Spiritualization ant nothing in front of a Longsword endowed with Holy Power.
Stab! Stab! Stab!
In no more than ten breaths, only two or three of the wolves besieging Herbert remained.
"Heh heh ~"
Herbert had claid he wasn't good at dealing with nurous foes, referring to hordes of thousands.
Once the number reaches a certain threshold, cutting through them becos impossible.
He certainly wasn't referring to a re twenty.
Everything happened so quickly, even the alpha wolf was caught off guard.
Half a minute ago, he was a leader with a pack of twenty wolves, frolicking with seven or eight she-wolves daily.
Now, he had beco a solitary figure.
What exactly had happened?
The alpha wolf, after a mont of shock, beca insanely furious.
"Awooo!!!"
With a pained howl, the alpha leaped high, lunging at Herbert with a wide-open maw.
The enemy was overwhelmingly strong, utterly unbeatable, leading only to death.
It knew.
Yet there was no other choice.
The alpha wolf was buying ti for the rest of the pack.
If they could escape and join another pack of Ghost Wolves, the hatred would live on.
As for itself...
The alpha couldn't back down.
It could only kill the enemy, or be killed by them!
Just as the alpha was preparing to make its sacrifice, the enemy ahead suddenly vanished into thin air.

Where is he?
Vanished?
Where did he go!!?
The alpha had no ti to search, then heard a light chuckle above him.
"Your courage is comndable."
Under the terrifying threat of death, the alpha hesitated not even for a mont before Spiritualizing, almost completely vanishing from the spot.
But it was to no avail.
Eaten.
The transparent Spirit Body was grabbed by those jade-like hands at the scruff of fate, pulled forcibly from the Spirit Realm.
"But courage without wisdom is aningless."
"Not recognizing your own strength, what you did was rely a futile sacrifice."
"Aside from moving yourself, you won't save anything."
With a sigh, Herbert effortlessly crushed the alpha's skull, ending its less-than-glorious life.
The alpha's final stand seed brave but was void of any admiration.
It wasn't fighting for any noble cause.
Ultimately, they had reached this point purely because of greed.
They sought to kill Herbert, and Herbert sought to kill them.
No matter how you put it, it was just beasts slaughtering each other, taking everything from each other.
The wolf pack was dead, and all they had would be taken by Herbert.
Should Herbert die, his flesh would beco sustenance for the pack.
There is no difference.
After killing the alpha of the Ghost Wolves, Herbert felt a notable surge of power flow into his body.
"Whew..."
Unlike before, though modest, he could distinctly feel a new enhancent in his Magic Resistance.
His Magic Resistance had increased by about half a percent from its original state.
"If over twenty can yield half a percent, wouldn't killing five hundred lead to complete immunity?"
["What are you dreaming about? The initial effect is highest, and it will surely diminish later on."]
"Makes sense."
Herbert chuckled, knowing he was just wishfully thinking, not expecting the world to offer such an easy gain.
"Even so, gaining a bit is already sufficient."
One can never have too much resistance.
"By the way, do you need the Ghost Wolves' corpses?"
["No need to say, I've already collected them~ though they're indeed not very useful."]
Shadow tendrils prodded at the soles of Herbert's shoes, announcing their presence.
"Good, then handle such things yourself from now on."
Herbert nodded, exhaling deeply.
He wasn't tired.
