The ancestral chamber was vast, and the number of techniques preserved within it was astonishing. Row after row of pedestals stretched into the distance, each one holding a technique created by generations of cultivators from the Black Dragon Clan.
However, as Max continued looking through the chamber, he realized that not every technique was suitable for him.
So inheritances were focused entirely on weapon arts designed for cultivators who specialized in spears or halberds. Others were defensive techniques that emphasized protection rather than offensive combat. There were also techniques that required specific bloodline abilities that Max did not possess.
Although the chamber was filled with powerful techniques, only a small portion of them could truly increase his combat prowess in a aningful way.
Max spent a long ti walking through the chamber, reading the introductions of many different techniques. Occasionally he would pause for a mont before shaking his head and moving on to the next pedestal.
Lady Virelia and Mathew Gris watched him quietly from behind without interrupting his search.
Eventually Max stopped before another pedestal.
The jade slip resting on it emitted a faint heat similar to the one he had felt earlier, although the aura surrounding this technique was much more unstable and explosive.
Above the pedestal floated the na of the inheritance.
Black Flas Explosive Burst.
Max carefully read the introduction recorded above the jade slip.
The concept behind the technique was surprisingly straightforward.
Any construct ford from his black flas could be transford into an explosive core using this technique. Whether it was a fla weapon, a fla barrier, or even a small fragnt of black fire, he could convert it into a destructive bomb that could be detonated at any mont.
The technique relied on compressing violent energy inside the fla construct until it reached an unstable state. When released, the explosion would unleash the stored energy with trendous destructive force.
Max's eyes showed clear interest as he considered the possibilities.
The technique might not appear as grand or complicated as so of the other inheritances in the chamber, but its practicality was undeniable. The ability to turn any fla construct into a sudden explosive attack could beco extrely useful in real combat situations.
More importantly, it worked perfectly with his existing abilities.
Max already possessed an extraordinary control over black flas. If he combined that control with a technique designed specifically to detonate those flas, the results could beco extrely unpredictable for his enemies.
"I will take this one," Max said with a satisfied smile.
Mathew Gris glanced at the jade slip and nodded.
"Hmm. This technique is used by quite a few disciples of the clan," he said. "It is relatively easy to learn compared to most inheritance techniques. Many disciples practice it because of its practicality."
Max smiled faintly as he stored the jade slip inside his ring.
The simplicity of the technique did not bother him at all. In many cases the simplest techniques were the ones that proved most effective in real combat.
With two inheritances already chosen, Max began searching the chamber for his final technique.
He moved slowly through the vast ancestral hall once again, his gaze carefully scanning the countless pedestals arranged throughout the chamber. Each pedestal held an inheritance technique that had been preserved by the Black Dragon Clan over many generations.
So were ancient jade slips sealed with powerful formations while others were scrolls or crystal spheres that emitted faint waves of spiritual energy.
At first glance the chamber seed like a treasury filled with endless opportunities. However, as Max continued walking and reading the introductions of each technique, he gradually realized that finding the right inheritance was not as simple as it seed.
There were indeed many powerful techniques in the ancestral chamber.
So techniques specialized in strengthening the body and enhancing raw physical strength. Others were focused entirely on movent techniques that allowed cultivators to move like shadows across the battlefield.
There were also several inheritance techniques dedicated to defensive arts that could create powerful shields capable of blocking devastating attacks.
However, Max quickly understood that not every powerful technique was suitable for him.
Many of the inheritances required a completely different cultivation style from the one he practiced. So techniques demanded the practitioner to focus entirely on body refinent while abandoning elental cultivation.
Others required the user to cultivate a specific weapon for many years before the technique could even be used properly.
Max shook his head several tis as he moved from one pedestal to another.
Although the ancestral chamber contained hundreds of techniques, most of them would not significantly increase his combat prowess in the way he needed.
What Max required was sothing that could directly complent his existing abilities.
He already possessed powerful fla techniques through his black flas. He also had extraordinary speed and strength through the Storm King's inheritance and the power of the Seven Divine Veins. On top of that he had his sword techniques and lightning abilities.
Because of this, many techniques that specialized in only one narrow aspect of combat were simply unnecessary for him.
Max spent a long ti searching through the chamber, occasionally stopping to read the details of a technique more carefully before quietly moving on again.
Lady Virelia and Mathew Gris followed behind him at a relaxed pace. Neither of them interrupted his search. They both understood that selecting an inheritance technique was an important decision for any cultivator.
After examining dozens of inheritances, Max eventually let out a quiet sigh.
"There are many techniques here," he said thoughtfully, "but most of them do not suit ."
Mathew Gris nodded slightly when he heard this.
"That is normal," he replied. "Every cultivator walks a different path. Even if an inheritance technique is powerful, it does not an it will benefit everyone."
"How about I choose one for you?" Lady Virelia suddenly said as she watched Max continue his search through the ancestral chamber.
Max paused and turned toward her.
"Which one?" he asked calmly.
Lady Virelia lifted her hand slightly and pointed toward a pedestal located near the far end of the hall. The pedestal stood slightly apart from the others and the jade slip resting upon it emitted a faint yet steady aura of heat.
"That one," she said.
Max followed the direction of her hand and walked toward the pedestal. As he approached, the faint heat surrounding the jade slip beca more noticeable, carrying the familiar presence of black flas.
He looked at the inscription floating above the pedestal and read its na quietly.
"Black Flas Sword Canon."
Max's interest was imdiately drawn to it.
