Chapter 541: Chaos Tree wants quality food

After leaving the Crimson Reaper do, Max felt a strange curiosity tugging at him. Until now, he had only explored the supre inheritances—those guarded by the most formidable totems, carved and left behind by ancient Masters.

But what about the lower-tier ones? What about the Profound Hall dos, the ones where most average geniuses headed? Perhaps there were unique traits hidden even in the less exalted legacies. With that thought, he decided to investigate.

He entered one of the Profound Hall totem dos, selected a quiet spot near the front, and began comprehending the inheritance left behind. It didn’t take long. Compared to the overwhelming intricacy of the Supre Hall totems, the Profound Hall inheritance was much simpler, more direct. He stood up after fully understanding the totem, then instinctively checked inside himself.

But the Chaos Tree remained unchanged.

No reaction. No new leaf. Not even a ripple of energy.

Max frowned. That was strange. He had copied three much higher-level inheritances without difficulty—Fla Tyrant, Black Sun, and Crimson Reaper. So why didn’t this one register?

With his brow furrowed in deep thought, Max went to another Profound Hall do and repeated the sa process. Once again, he completed the comprehension easily, but when he looked within—nothing. No response from the Chaos Tree at all.

This ti, Max was truly stunned. ‘Why?’ he questioned inwardly. ‘What’s the difference? It’s still an inheritance, isn’t it? Then why didn’t it get registered?’

Refusing to accept it without proof, Max dove into a spree of comprehension. He moved from one Profound Hall totem do to another, ticulously understanding and mastering the inheritances they offered. He chose totems based on elental alignnt, application styles, even rare niche techniques. One after another, he finished them with efficiency and clarity.

And yet, not a single one of them registered into his Chaos Tree.

Max stood silently outside the last do, his expression unreadable. For the first ti, he began to grasp a new layer of mystery behind the Chaos Tree.

It wasn’t just a devouring machine that absorbed any and every inheritance. No… it had a will, or perhaps a selective chanism—a standard. A threshold. It only recognized inheritances of a certain level. Anything beneath that threshold… was simply not worthy of being absorbed.

“This tree… doesn’t want quantity,” Max muttered, his voice low, almost reverent. “It only seeks quality.”

With that understanding settling firmly in his heart, Max finally felt a sense of peace regarding the strange behavior of the Chaos Tree. There was no flaw, no shortcoming—only purpose.

The Chaos Tree was not ant to be cluttered with common legacies; it sought only the refined, the powerful, the extraordinary. Now, he understood that its silence in the face of the Profound Hall inheritances wasn’t a failure—it was a judgnt. And now that he knew, he could act with clarity.

‘When I reach the Middle Domain… I’ll hunt for lightning and space-based inheritances,’ Max thought, his gaze distant and resolute. He had already mastered powerful fla-based legacies, but his other two primary concepts—lightning and space—remained untouched in the realm of inheritance.

And he knew, deep down, that true mastery of those elents would expand his strength in ways he couldn’t yet imagine. The Chaos Tree was ready for them. He just had to feed it the right seeds.

As for his sword concept—Max’s expression grew even more thoughtful. Among all the concepts he wielded, none felt quite as sharp, as absolute, as the Concept of Severing Sword. It was violent in its simplicity, elegant in its brutality. A single stroke, a single intention—to cut. Not just flesh, but reality itself. Space, ti, energy, fate.

There was a sense of finality in it that none of his other concepts could match. And perhaps, because of that very nature, Max understood sothing else: he wasn’t ready.

‘If I rush to bind an inheritance to it now… I might limit its true form,’ Max thought carefully. The Concept of Severing Sword felt like a primordial edge, one that needed to be understood in its purest state before it was ever tied to anything external.

Otherwise, any attempt to evolve it might taint or narrow its potential. For now, he needed to comprehend it more—observe how it interacted with other forces, how it sliced through domains, constructs, and even laws.

With this realization, Max’s path forward beca clearer than ever. He would continue honing what he had, seek out powerful inheritances when the ti was right, and approach his sword concept with the reverence it deserved.

The Chaos Tree within him would grow—not with abundance, but with distinction. Only the strongest leaves would bloom.

Max walked with quiet steps toward the grand exit of the Comprehension Hall. The place behind him buzzed with the presence of hundreds of geniuses, each lost in their own struggles to grasp power, but Max was done.

He had comprehended what he ca for—Fla Tyrant, Black Sun, and Crimson Reaper—and his Chaos Tree now bore the fruits of those legacies. Staying longer to explore lesser inheritances was pointless. His path was different, his requirents rarer. The Profound Hall’s offerings, while treasured by many, could no longer add value to him.

Just as his hand touched the carved stone arch of the exit, a familiar voice called out behind him.

“Leaving so early?” ca Jason’s light-hearted tone, followed closely by the sound of another pair of footsteps. It was Lucia—though this ti, Max imdiately noticed the shift in her deanor. The wild, arrogant fury was gone. She looked composed, calculating… and surprisingly calm.

Max turned halfway, letting his gaze flicker to Jason before landing briefly on Lucia. “I’m not suited for the other inheritances here,” he replied plainly. “My ti’s better spent elsewhere than chasing sothing that won’t resonate with .”

Then, his gaze returned to Lucia, a hint of curiosity behind his calm voice. “I heard she wants to comprehend all the inheritances of the Black Dragon Palace. Did she already master them?” He wanted to know her progress.
