The Avengers facility was quiet that morning.

Gray light filtered through the wide glass walls facing the water. Outside, the lake stretched beneath a pale sky. The compound looked functional and sleek, a modern complex spread across a hundred acres.

Rhodes appeared on the Quantum Tunnel platform, light fading around him as the transfer completed. The nanotech coating his armor began to retract, flowing backward in smooth tallic ripples until the War Machine plating fully settled into its solid form.

One by one, the other Avengers materialized beside him.

Rhodes said, holding the Ti-Space GPS, "So you're telling this wo—"

The sentence never finished.

A sharp hum cut through the room.

The air itself seed to tighten.

Blue-white particles appeared.

Rhodey stepped back instantly.

"What the—"

Figures appeared on the quantum platform. Tall figures. Unknown figures.

Rhodey reacted first. Instinct took over before thought could catch up. His War Machine armor locked into combat readiness, shoulder weapons rising with chanical precision as targeting systems activated.

He aid directly at the newcors.

"…Are you kidding ?"

Across the platform, Thor straightened as the light around him faded. For a brief mont, his eyes were distant. Then his gaze fixed on the newly arrived figures, eyes sharpening with sudden alertness despite the grief weighing on him.

Rocket imdiately pulled out his pistol and aid it.

Nebula raised her pistol without hesitation, chanical eye focusing sharply.

Even Clint Barton, though clearly tired and weighed down by grief, moved deliberately, keeping his aim steady.

Every weapon pointed at the figures.

At Gaius.

At the towering warriors beside him.

At the silent woman standing among giants.

The arriving group did not move.

Quantum energy faded around them, leaving only the low hum of machinery.

Before anyone fired, voices shouted beside them.

"Stop!"

Tony Stark hurried forward, followed closely by Steve Rogers, Smart Hulk, and Scott Lang.

Tony raised both hands imdiately.

"They're allies!"

Steve stepped ahead, placing himself between both groups, posture calm but firm.

"Everyone stand down."

No one lowered their weapons.

Rhodey frowned behind his helt.

"Tony," he said sharply, "why did you bring soone from the past? Aren't we trying not to ss with ti?"

Thor nodded slightly.

"He speaks truth."

Rocket added, "Yeah, this looks like the opposite of subtle."

Nebula remained silent but did not move her aim.

Tension thickened.

On the platform, the quantum suit surrounding Gaius dissolved. Nanotech folded away smoothly, leaving him standing only in a black undersuit marked by faint flowing lines of light.

Without armor, he sohow appeared even larger. More real.

He looked at the weapons pointed toward him, expression calm and unreadable.

"Lower your weapons," Gaius said.

His voice was steady, neither loud nor threatening.

Rocket imdiately barked back, "Why don't you lower your head?"

The words echoed sharply through the hangar.

Behind Gaius, the Ultramarines shifted. Subtle, almost invisible to normal eyes, but their stance changed. Shoulders aligned. Weight balanced. Readiness replaced stillness.

Nebula noticed first. Her grip tightened.

Thor's eyes began to whiten as faint lightning flickered around him. His senses warned him of danger.

Tony stepped forward quickly. "Okay, nobody escalate—"

Gaius lifted one hand.

A small motion.

The Ultramarines froze instantly, obedience absolute.

Tony opened his mouth again, trying to speak.

But Gaius moved.

The platform cracked beneath his feet. The sound was like thunder striking tal.

One mont he stood five ters away. The next—

He was gone.

A shockwave rolled outward as fractured lines spread across the platform surface.

Before anyone could react, Gaius stood behind Rhodey, Thor, and Rocket.

His hand clamped onto Rhodey's shoulder. The War Machine armor whined as servos struggled against overwhelming strength. Rhodey tried to turn but couldn't move even an inch.

At the sa ti, Gaius's other hand settled onto Thor's shoulder, fingers curved like a claw.

Not crushing. Precise. A warning.

Thor felt the pressure imdiately. If he forced movent, the grip would injure him before he could counter.

Lightning faded slightly as realization set in.

Rocket froze, ears flattening in shock.

Clint reacted on instinct. He turned and released an arrow aid straight at Gaius's head.

The shot was perfect.

Before it could reach its target, Titus moved. He shot forward toward Clint, having been watching all of them closely.

The Space Marine appeared in front of Clint faster than his eyes could follow.

At the sa instant, Gaius tilted his head slightly. The arrow passed harmlessly beside him.

Titus reached Clint. His punch landed. Controlled. asured. Not lethal. Still, the force lifted Clint off his feet. He flew backward off the platform, sliding across the floor before stopping several ters away.

Smart Hulk imdiately jumped toward him.

"I got you," Hulk said, kneeling beside him.

Clint groaned, breath knocked out but conscious.

Nearby, Nebula kept her pistol trained on Gaius.

Lieutenant taurus stepped forward alongside another Space Marine, positioning themselves between her and their captain. They said nothing, but the warning was clear.

Nebula calculated silently. She did not fire.

Tony froze, eyes wide. Gaius's strength and speed left him in disbelief. For soone nearly three ters tall and built like a tank, moving that fast was incredible.

Steve recovered first.

"Gaius," he said calmly, voice respectful. "Let them go. They understand."

Tony nodded quickly. "They're just surprised. Nobody's trying to start a fight."

For a mont, nothing moved.

Then Gaius released his grip.

Rhodey staggered slightly as armor systems regained control. Thor rolled his shoulder, eyes thoughtful rather than angry.

Across the hangar, Hulk helped Clint stand and guided him back toward the group.

Clint walked slowly, breathing unevenly. He was hurt, but alive.

Hulk looked around as they approached. Sothing felt wrong. He counted faces.

Tony. Steve. Scott. Thor. Rhodey. Rocket. Nebula.

He frowned. "Where is Nat?"

The question stopped everything. Conversation died instantly.

Thor turn his head and looked at Clint. Rhodey's weapons powered down. Rocket slowly lowered his gun. Even the Ultramarines relaxed their stance.

Gaius stepped back, giving space without being asked.

Clint pulled away from Hulk's support. His legs gave out. He dropped to his knees. For a long mont, he said nothing.

The strong archer who had fought beside gods and soldiers stared at the floor like he no longer knew how to stand.

"The Soul Stone," he said quietly, voice rough. "It needs… a sacrifice."

No one spoke.

"It was supposed to be ."

His shoulders trembled. "She didn't let ."

The words broke apart as they ca out. Tears gathered in his eyes despite his effort to hold them back.

Hulk looked lost, pain clear across his face. Natasha had been family. One of the few constants through every battle and every loss.

Steve lowered his head, jaw tightening. Tony looked away briefly, guilt flickering across his expression. Every victory seed to demand a price.

Thor stood still, grief settling heavily behind his eyes. Nebula watched Clint quietly, saying nothing.

The hangar felt colder. No machines humd loudly. No weapons charged. Only silence remained.

Clint's voice dropped to a whisper.

"She knew."

He swallowed hard. "She knew what it would take."

No one tried to interrupt. There were no words strong enough to fix what had happened.

Gaius observed quietly from a short distance away. He did not speak. In his world, sacrifice was common, but that did not make it lighter. He recognized the mont for what it was, warriors mourning one of their own.

Slowly, Clint wiped his face, though the grief remained.
