The digital world was a hurricane of speculation, but the physical world was much quieter.
Or at least, it was quiet until the sound of sand being displaced by a sudden, violent strike echoed through the dunes.
The 5th Floor was a desolate, unending expanse known as the [Sea of Bleached Sands].
Here, the sun was a cruel, white orb that never set, and the only residents were the Great Pale Wraiths.
Massive, white-scaled snakes that grew to forty feet in length.
They burrowed through the sand like sharks, sensing the vibrations of anything with a heartbeat.
In the center of a swirling sandstorm, a figure stood alone.
A black mask covered his face.
Beneath his feet, the sand rippled.
A Pale Wraith erupted from the dune to his left, its mouth opening to reveal rows of crystalline teeth capable of grinding steel.
The snake's white scales shimred, blending into the glare of the desert.
As the snake lunged, its head a massive hamr of muscle and bone, the man stepped to the side.
It was a movent so minute and efficient that the snake's snout missed his shoulder by a re inch.
In the sa breath, he drove his palm into the snake's eye.
The impact wasn't a dull thud.
It was a sharp, localized explosion.
The snake's massive head was snapped back, its eye socket caving in as a burst of pale, watery blood sprayed across the sand. The creature shrieked, its body thrashing in the dunes, but the man was already moving.
He leaped onto the creature's neck.
With a flick of his wrist, a blade appeared in his hand.
He drove the knife into the gap between the scales and pulled.
-RIIIIIP!
He sliced the head clean off with a single, continuous motion fueled by a surge of purple mana.
The massive body of the Pale Wraith went limp.
He looked straight at the drone cara above him the wind fluttering his clothes.
