Chapter 1218: Chapter 1219: Release the Lanterns

“Rember to make a wish, although it probably won’t matter, it’s still an essential ritual~”

As he placed his lantern onto the water, Feng Yuan said with a smile to Xiao Ji, who, upon hearing Feng Yuan’s words, gently pushed her lantern into the river and seed to be making a wish intently. Even Long Boduo and the others, who originally didn’t care, subconsciously made wishes, but then they felt sowhat amused when they realized what they were doing.

How could such a thing possibly grant wishes? It was neither enveloped by the power of the Fate Series nor surrounded by the energy of the Ti Series. Could these ordinary lanterns really fulfill wishes?

Sensing the strange looks from Long Boduo and the others, Feng Yuan did not explain. Although it was only a customary practice, whether it would really grant wishes was another matter. Under normal circumstances, the River of Fate had a certain possibility of fulfilling the desires carried by the lanterns when they were lit and set adrift. Those wishes did not rely on any special materials; they were simply contingent on their sincerity.

And yet Long Boduo was about to open a temporary passage to the River of Fate from the Hongxi River. In so sense, it was appropriate to consider Long Boduo a Divine Beast associated with wishes, if only it realized this. After all, they weren’t acquainted with the uniqueness of the River of Fate.

If Long Boduo truly beca aware of this situation, chances are, it would never have readily agreed to Feng Yuan’s request. However, the hardest part is the sincerity of the wish. Among those present, even if they knew the truth, how many could genuinely make a sincere wish? Even Feng Yuan himself couldn’t say for sure.

Seeing that everyone was rely making wishes casually, as if completing a task, Feng Yuan did not remind them. There was no need; even if they knew, it would only lead to unnecessary worries.

Dou Yanlan held Cotton, who clung tightly to the lantern, carefully placing it into the river. Witnessing this scene, Qi Chen scratched his head in confusion, but he didn’t say much. How could he step forward and say that it wasn’t necessary to be so cautious when Dou Yanlan was treating it with such reverence?

Casually putting the lantern into the river, Qi Chen silently watched Dou Yanlan until she pushed her lantern towards the middle of the river with a look of devoutness and then he approached her.

At this mont, the lit lanterns drifted gently on the Hongxi River, lighting up its surface. Long Boduo set down its lantern and quickly opened the channel to the River of Fate beneath the current. Below on the riverbank, the guard team mbers were monitoring both sides of the Hongxi River. After all, the River of Fate lay between the River of Ti and the Netherworld, and anyone who strayed there could easily encounter mishaps.

The Black Mist slowly enshrouded the river surface, and the Hongxi River continued to flow quietly. Yet, the Black Mist seed so eerie, as if filled with ominous vibes. Despite feeling sowhat puzzled, the guards weren’t too alard.

After all, Long Boduo originated from the Netherworld and was a Ghost-type Divine Beast. If its Ultimate Move appeared normal, that would have been strange. The Ultimate Moves of Ghost-type Divine Beasts seldom have any consideration for living beings, and besides, the Black Mist just looked a bit unsettling. But upon closer inspection, one could find that within the Black Mist hid a straightforward and upright montum.

“What a peculiar Ghost-type Divine Beast,” the guards thought to themselves. As they had almost no interaction with Ghost-type Divine Beasts, they knew nothing of their temperants. Although they found its Ultimate Move odd, they only kept these thoughts to themselves, not daring to voice them out loud.

Doing so at a ti like this could likely turn Long Boduo, who was neutral, against them, which would be asking for trouble.

“At a ti like this, of course, we should take a group photo~”

Pulling out his cara, Feng Yuan smiled at Qi Chen and the others. This ti, he refrained from taking a photo alone with Xiao Ji and the rest. After all, while the currents of the Hongxi River were not swift, the lanterns would soon drift downstream and vanish from their sight. They called out to each other, resulting in a big class photo.

After ntioning that he would send the photo to everyone, they dispersed and strolled by the riverside. Feng Yuan sat down in a pavilion with Xiao Ji and the others. Agunas watched the persistent twinkling stars with so bewildernt and said,

“You didn’t join them in following those lanterns?”

“There’s no need, and Long Boduo’s passage isn’t open too far down. If we followed now, we might soon co upon that passage. Rather than watching the lanterns disappear into the unknown, isn’t it better to know they’ve simply flowed downstream?”

With a slight smile, Feng Yuan replied. Veronia chuckled lightly and said,

“Averse to facing goodbyes?”

“Say what you will.”

During the conversation, Feng Yuan transford into the Little Husky and climbed onto Big Cat’s head, wagging its tail in the night. As the vibrancy brought by the lanterns gradually dispersed, Yanlan leaned against the bench, seemingly fatigued from following Feng Yuan around all day, which was probably enough to wear anyone out.

“Qi Chen and the others have also disappeared without a trace.”

Shaking its ears, Little Husky surveyed the surroundings. As the lanterns drifted away and the crowd dispersed, Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan’s whereabouts were unknown, but presumably, they had gone off to whisper sweet nothings to each other. After so thought, Feng Yuan didn’t feel like he had an abundance of snacks, so he decided against looking for Qi Chen and the rest.

“How about we take a stroll around this area?”

With a flick of its tail, Little Husky suggested, glancing at Xiao Ji. With a wave of its paw, a black cloud rose from the ground, carrying Xiao Ji aloft. Startled by the black cloud beneath it, Xiao Ji curiously examined the dark vapor, which hovered just above the ground without drifting upwards, allowing Xiao Ji to jump off at any mont.

“Let’s go.”

Eyeing Xiao Ji who was watching it, Little Husky spoke sowhat guiltily; the power it had just used was borrowed from Xiao Ji after all, but presumably, Xiao Ji wouldn’t be that petty, right?

Leading Big Cat along and leaving the Hongxi River behind, Feng Yuan noticed that many others were leaving too. It wasn’t surprising, though. Although Qiaoshui Town was a tourist destination, there weren’t many interesting sights along the Hongxi River. It was fine for those like Qi Chen who had company for whispering sweet nothings, but for the groups of three or five who drilled into the riverside woods, it felt rather odd.

“It looks like they’re heading to the streets. But oh well.”

Wagging its tail, Little Husky mumbled to itself. The riverside was dull and the town wasn’t particularly exciting either; those shops? Nothing too special there. And the night view? Besides streetlights, those old buildings didn’t have any scenic lights—after all, people still lived there, and it wouldn’t do to have a bunch of scenic lights installed.

“What’s up?”

Feng Yuan looked down at Big Cat with so confusion as it owed, seeming to try to say sothing. Veronia glanced at Big Cat and said,

“It’s saying that this place reminds it of the old Maomu City. The past Maomu City was also like this, with few scenic lights and the storefronts not so flashy and personalized.”

“Eh? You have been to Maomu City before?”

Gently patting with its little paw, Little Husky expressed its surprise. It hadn’t expected that Big Cat had visited Maomu City before. As for its age being greater than that of Xiao Ji and the others, that wasn’t surprising at all; after all, Spirit Beasts lived much longer than humans. Even Kong Qing’s age was a mystery, but it was likely not born in recent years.

The sa went for Big Cat. Normally, as ti passes, Spirit Beasts grow and get ready to evolve on their own, but both Big Cat and Kong Qing had specific conditions for evolution. Apart from Native Level Spirit Beasts like Eggshell Chicken, most Spirit Beasts had their own conditions for evolution, even when moving from Common Level to Good Level.

Wasn’t it the sa with Xiao Ji? So just looking at strength, it was hard to guess a Spirit Beast’s age; perhaps it had been stuck at the evolution stage for a long ti.

Big Cat owed embarrassingly, seemingly feeling shy about sothing it said. Veronia swept a look over Big Cat and said,

“Having spent so much ti in Maomu City and still getting lost, you really are quite the dunce.”

“Can you really bla it for that flaw?”

Agunas remarked discontentedly to Veronia. Ignoring the two Divine Beasts starting to squabble again, Little Husky scratched Big Cat’s head with its tail and said,

“Seeing the resemblance to the old Maomu City, do you feel like wandering around? You lead the way. I don’t have anywhere particular in mind either.”

Upon hearing Little Husky’s words, Big Cat let out a happy cry.
