Xiao Ji initially used her close-range ultimate move to test the waters. After discovering that the Jade Creatures would not reflect energy-type attacks, she began to employ her area-of-effect ultimate move.
Compared to Xiao Ji, Ah Mu was much more aggressive. With its massive size and formidable defensive capabilities, it was a weapon in itself. Watching Ah Mu rampage through the Jade Creatures, Xiao Ji couldn’t help but feel a bit envious.
The Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s attacks were mostly close-range, but its body engulfed in flas made it less apprehensive about engaging in lee combat. Initially, it only used the Bath of Flas to heal itself, but to its surprise, the flas from the Bath of Flas also hard the Jade Creatures attacking it.
The Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, clad in fiery armor, didn’t seem any slower than Ah Mu. Although Cotton also had a wide-range ultimate move, Dou Yanlan didn’t let it join the offensive. Dou Yanlan could see that with the current battle strategy of these Spirit Beasts, Ah Mu might be a better fit, and that the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound would likely have to retreat first.
Xiao Ji, on the other hand, seed to have much higher endurance, so she could probably hold out for a while. She had Cotton hold back in order to replace any Spirit Beast that retreated in ti.
Standing at the rear and moving forward with Qi Chen and the others, Feng Yuan wasn’t intimidated by the overwhelming number of Jade Creatures; he just didn’t want to get involved. If he did step in, he reckoned he could clear them out in an instant.
Many of the Jade Creatures resembled animals; at first glance, it felt like stumbling upon a Jade sculpture exhibition. Yet, Feng Yuan noticed several peculiar-looking types hidden among the Jade Creatures.
For so unknown reason, those special Jade Creatures seed to have been pushed far away from everyone. Feng Yuan was rather curious about the Jade Creature that looked like a Magic Bomb. Could it really mimic the non-existent Magic Bomb and cause a severe explosion?
Though he had his suspicions, Feng Yuan didn’t voice them. In any case, if it did explode, he could still step in to protect everyone. Besides, Feng Yuan doubted that thing could make its way over to them so quickly.
Of course, if Qi Chen and the others noticed its presence, that would be even better. For now, it was still quite far from their group.
Veronia, noticing a subtle change in Feng Yuan’s expression, glanced in the direction he was looking and laughed softly, saying,
"I see, what an interesting setup."
"Too fast or too slow, both can be troubleso, huh? But you, aren’t you going to join in?"
Glancing at Feng Yuan, Veronia said with a peculiar smile. Shaking his head suddenly, Feng Yuan replied,
"Not appropriate. If I intervene, their fight won’t be theirs anymore, and the trial would lose its aning. If I step in, they’d have no chance to gain any experience."
Watching Xiao Ji and the others in combat, Feng Yuan sighed and said,
"Looking at it now, Xiao Ji still doesn’t have a good grasp of her battle techniques. At tis like this, she should use that ultimate move that allows for slow recovery."
Veronia chuckled, saying,
"Maybe she prefers this rough approach?"
Glancing at Veronia, Feng Yuan couldn’t say whether her take was right or wrong. Perhaps Xiao Ji hadn’t realized it yet? Anyway, given Xiao Ji’s recovery abilities, this style wasn’t much of a problem for now.
The Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, as expected, was the first to retreat to the back. It couldn’t be helped; in terms of energy recovery speed, it couldn’t match Xiao Ji and didn’t have the energy reserves like Ah Mu. However, the Hao Chun Bird, despite only occasionally singing, still appeared full of vitality.
Considering that the Hao Chun Bird’s ultimate wasn’t particularly energy-consuming, Feng Yuan didn’t worry too much. On the other hand, Veronia eyed the Hao Chun Bird suspiciously, feeling that there was sothing amiss.
Was this recovery efficiency achieved at the cost of self-imposed limitations?
Turning to look at Feng Yuan, Veronia realized that Feng Yuan wasn’t concerned about this, perhaps not noticing the root of the issue, or maybe he genuinely didn’t care.
With the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound retreating, Cotton quickly took its place on Dou Yanlan’s command. She glanced at Qi Chen’s side’s Hao Chun Bird and said,
"Have the Hao Chun Bird try to speed up our recovery. These things... seem endless. We may need a different approach."
Yanlan, do you an to ignore them?"
Qi Chen was taken aback as he realized what Dou Yanlan intended and looked at her in surprise, asking. Nodding, Dou Yanlan gazed at the forest and said,
"Exactly, if we keep entangling with these things, we might not reach the end before this trial is over. Feng Yuan, later you..."
"Don’t worry, as long as Xiao Ji is protecting , I’m fine."
Waving his hand, Feng Yuan acknowledged that he understood. Although Dou Yanlan’s suggestion was comndable, Feng Yuan felt it was sowhat risky. The Jade Creature resembling a Magic Bomb might not be that easy to handle.
Dou Yanlan hadn’t noticed the very dangerous presence hidden among the Jade Creatures, looking like animals. After making arrangents, Dou Yanlan soon had everyone running.
Feng Yuan, transforming into his Little Husky form, lay on Xiao Ji’s back. Although the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound could evolve into a rideable Spirit Beast in the future, it wasn’t there yet. Moreover, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound preferred using Blazing Dash for traveling, and Feng Yuan wasn’t keen on experiencing the sensation of running in flas. It was too intense; even in autumn, he still felt too hot.
Similarly, bird-like Jade Creatures attempted to intercept them from above, but there were far fewer compared to the ground. To protect the Little Husky on her back, Xiao Ji directly changed her attack strategy.
They had just started running when suddenly, a ghostly blue fireball descended from the sky. Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan both looked at Xiao Ji, wondering why she suddenly attacked the nearby Jade Creatures with her Netherfire Orb.
As the Netherfire Orb exploded, it caused a massive shockwave that severely impacted everything nearby. Even with so distance from the explosion, Qi Chen and the others were caught in the blast’s aftermath.
They didn’t expect the Jade Creatures to possess such abilities. Previously encountered Jade Creatures resembled their original animal forms, albeit nurous, with rather straightforward attacks. Yet, this explosion presented an unexpected complication.
Dou Yanlan was the first to respond, quickly scanning her surroundings. The Hao Chun Bird, simultaneously activating its Forest Domain, aided Qi Chen and the others with healing.
The explosion forcibly broke through Cotton’s Nether Cross, leaving them surrounded. Qi Chen imdiately released Ah Mu to protect himself and Dou Yanlan.
The Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, releasing flas, created a safety zone and occasionally helped Ah Mu protect Qi Chen and the others. Although it couldn’t avoid explosion damage entirely, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound was quite far from the explosion’s epicenter and had imdiately gone into defense mode, thus suffering minimal harm.
In the sky, the Little Husky lightly patted Xiao Ji and said,
"You’re really sothing. Couldn’t you give us a bit of a heads-up? They don’t know what you’re up to. Or, if you noticed sothing was wrong, why act imdiately? At least warn your teammates."
Xiao Ji, circling above, let out an apologetic chirp. She had seen sothing strange within the Jade Creatures, felt it was dangerous, and had thrown a Netherfire Orb from afar. She hadn’t expected her action to result in such a violent explosion.
After all, unlike Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji couldn’t recognize it as a Magic Bomb from fantasy animation. Such a thing didn’t exist in reality. However, the incident confird for Feng Yuan that the academy had set this up deliberately.
After all, a Magic Bomb wasn’t a natural creation. Still, Feng Yuan couldn’t fathom what the academy intended. They surely couldn’t be planning to let them take the Heart of Nature after the challenge, right?
If that were the case, Feng Yuan wouldn’t hold back, as the Heart of Nature had nurous possible applications, including within his nature reserve.
But, as much as he speculated, Feng Yuan figured it wasn’t very likely. Maomu Academy probably wasn’t wealthy enough to hand out sothing like the Heart of Nature casually.
