Mika Sumrs didn’t know how long she’d been crouching on the floor, or how long she’d cried before she finally stopped.

When she rose to her feet, her legs were completely numb.

But she had to pull herself together. Silas Kent would be here to get her soon.

She could only let her vulnerability show when she was alone.

She gripped the doorknob, about to open the door and leave, but a small, dark figure on the bed made her freeze.

Kiki had woken up at so point. He was sitting on the bed, watching her.

Mika Sumrs pulled her hand back from the door. She quickly wiped away her tears and forced a smile as she walked over to Kiki. "I’m sorry, did Mommy wake you?"

"—" Kiki shook his head, looking at her with a hint of fear.

Seeing the look on his face, Mika Sumrs’s tears began to fall uncontrollably again. "Kiki, do you not like Mommy?"

"—" Kiki didn’t answer. He just stared at her, unblinking.

She sighed, lifted the covers, and sat on the bed. Pulling Kiki into her arms, she nuzzled her cheek against his, her voice catching as she pleaded, "Kiki, please don’t dislike Mommy, okay?"

Silas Kent had been calling for nearly half an hour, but her phone was still off.

However, the mont her foot touched the floor, a hand shot out and grabbed her arm, yanking her back onto the bed.

The man’s eyes narrowed, a devilish smirk playing on his lips. "Trying to run?"

Jasmine Warren’s voice trembled as she nervously spun a blatant lie. "I... I just wanted to go out for a walk."

"A walk? Are you sure you want to go for a walk looking like that?"
