「Eldoria. Valor Hospital.」
Aiden Avery’s expression was utterly grim as he watched the woman in the hospital bed. Ever since she’d woken up, she had been trying to call Tristan Grayson.
’Why can’t this woman take a good, hard look in the mirror and see herself for what she is?’
’A woman who won’t even live for three years, yet she’s still deluding herself into thinking she can keep clinging to Tristan.’
’If she truly loved Tristan, she’d let him go. She’d stop him from wasting any more ti on her. But clearly, that’s not what this woman is thinking at all.’
He couldn’t just stand by and watch this woman ruin Tristan. At that thought, Aiden Avery reached out and snatched the phone from Maggie Monroe’s hand. His voice was cold and impatient as he snapped, "Maggie, you promised you wouldn’t interfere with Tristan’s life or his work. But what you’re doing right now is seriously affecting him."
Tears of grievance welled in Maggie’s eyes as she listened to Aiden. "I just want to talk to Tristan..." ’He was always with for my surgeries before. No matter how busy he was, he would be by my side. But this ti, the surgery is over, and he still hasn’t called. Even when I tried calling him just now, he didn’t answer.’
’She had fought her way back from death’s door for Tristan, but now he wasn’t even answering her calls. How could she not panic...’
’She knew perfectly well there was another woman by Tristan’s side now. No, she had to go back. She couldn’t watch him fall into that woman’s trap step by step.’
’Since he was already divorced, she wouldn’t give them a chance to get back together.’
"Tristan will call you when he has a mont." Seeing Maggie cry, Aiden’s voice lost its earlier harshness; he wasn’t a cruel man, after all. "For now, don’t think about anything. Just focus on your recovery. I’m confiscating your phone for the ti being."
"Finn, please don’t take my phone..." ’If he took her phone, how would she ever be able to reach Tristan?’
’What was wrong with Aiden? He used to dote on her.’
"No. Forget about the phone for now. Once you’ve recovered, I’ll give it back to you."
Still unwilling to give up, Maggie asked, "But what if Tristan tries to call ?" ’He hadn’t answered just now,’ she thought, ’but he would surely call her back soon.’
"Tristan is so busy with work right now, how would he have ti to call you? Stop overthinking it and get so rest. The doctor said this two-week recovery period after the surgery is crucial."
"Two weeks? That long?" Her life was a race against ti. Two weeks felt like half a lifeti.
’But what could she do, even if she was unwilling? In her current state, she couldn’t even get out of bed, let alone fight another woman for Tristan.’
Aiden ignored her. ’Complaining that two weeks is too long? She’d be lucky if she could get out of bed and recover properly in two weeks. Besides, even with this surgery, if she manages to live another six months, that’s practically stolen ti. How dare she be so demanding...’
He left the hospital room and imdiately started making calls to find a few reliable caregivers to look after Maggie.
As for him, he had to return ho in a few days.
If he didn’t go back soon, his own sister might very well be abducted.
「Tridell. The police station.」
Cassian Jennings slouched lazily in a chair, a cigarette between his fingers, looking every bit the part of a shot caller.
