Ma Guojun lifted his head from his seat, nudging his glasses.
"Li Hua, I dropped one hundred yuan outside the railing in the hallway, could you help pick it up?"
Jiang Nian pondered, stroking his chin.
"I have an idea, if one deskmate dies, can the other get a direct pass to college?"
Li Hua let out a sharp yelp, sounding utterly heartbroken.
He originally wanted to say, "Bold peasant, how dare you harm ." But in the mont, he blundered and blurted out,
"Bold peasant, how dare you harm ." (Note: The phrase was ant to imitate an emperor, but he mixed up the words)
The middle of the classroom erupted into laughter, and the morning self-study bell rang amidst the cheerful atmosphere.
It’s Friday, ti to read English.
Zhang Ningzhi picked up her thermos, looking slightly puzzled. She thought maybe she had forgotten to wash it yesterday, but she distinctly rembered cleaning it.
She opened it, and steam hit her face.
"Haha," Jiang Nian smirked mischievously beside her.
"Why didn’t you tell you filled it with water?" Zhang Ningzhi said unhappily.
"You didn’t ask," Jiang Nian replied.
"You..." Zhang Ningzhi was fuming, but couldn’t think of a retort, so she sullenly said, "Oh, thank you then."
"You’re welco," Jiang Nian whistled.
Zhang Ningzhi blushed a little, today she was an angry lychee.
Li Hua, liking to stir things up, chid in,
"Why didn’t you fill mine?"
Jiang Nian glanced at him, speaking in a flat tone.
"Your cup is under the bed, how am I supposed to fill it?"
"Hmm? Wasn’t my cup in the drawer..." Li Hua paused halfway, then suddenly burst out, "Chi Shi! Chi Shi! Chi Shi!"
"Stop slandering all the ti! Damn it, it’s because of you guys that I can’t find a girlfriend! Spreading rumors, damn it!"
Actually, Li Hua had bought one before.
But cheap ones were no good, and quality ones were too expensive. He couldn’t afford it at the ti, so he had to save his pocket money. But by the ti he had enough, he lacked the courage to buy it.
The first purchase took courage, but the second ti, he was as drained as an empty kidney, completely scattered.
Spring Breeze... heartless, swaying a young boy’s heart.
Oh NetEase.
With English morning reading in full swing, Li Hua was reciting words and singing loudly at the sa ti.
He thought of Doraemon’s bamboo copter, so he eagerly shared with Jiang Nian.
"Jiang, if you had a bamboo copter, what would you do?"
Jiang Nian never did morning reading; he always did exercises steadily every day during morning study.
He always adhered to Qingbao’s three-step strategy for raising grades by diligently practicing exercises.
Qingbao would say, the foundation has already been solidified.
Not sure what best thods to raise grades in physics and chemistry, why not try exercising first. Try various thods, maybe quantity can lead to quality change.
Upon hearing Li Hua’s words, he thought for a mont then pointed at his crotch.
"A bamboo copter, huh, I’d put it on top."
Li Hua was stunned, today he spoke words beyond heaven.
"Whoa?"
"This thing is ant to fly!"
Hearing this, Jiang Nian looked at him curiously.
"I know, no need to repeat, didn’t everyone have a childhood?"
Damn, it got stranger.
Li Hua couldn’t hold back, imagining the scene of a bamboo copter on top, wouldn’t that be spinning around in circles?
It was like Qin Shi Huang swinging on a swing, ruling without end.
"You’re amazing."
About to enter the dictation session, Li Hua closed his eyes and began recalling the words he morized.
"Damn it, I forgot everything."
Jiang Nian laughed, catching him.
Li Hua rembered that Qianbao had once said, there were two tablemates next to him with English scores over one hundred and thirty. So he asked with a learning mindset,
"Jiang, do you have any thods for rembering words so you won’t forget?"
"Sure, do you have soone you really like... but haven’t confessed to?" Jiang Nian asked.
Li Hua was taken aback, "What does that have to do with morizing words?"
"Stop talking nonsense, do you want to improve or not?"
"Teacher, I really want to improve," Li Hua said sincerely. Once his English grades improved, except for Qingbei, he could go to any university he wanted.
surely wouldn’t be worse than a vocational college, he thought he could manage.
After fidgeting for a mont, Li Hua shared his hidden story about his childhood crush.
It was about a ti in middle school when he t an unremarkable short girl in class.
"Whoa, lolicon, huh?" Jiang Nian pointed accusingly like a husky.
"Get lost! Get lost!" Li Hua was furious and, lowering his voice, continued, "I still rember, she was short with cute short hair."
"And you say you’re not a lolicon, Hua, you’re really a pervert."
"Chi Shi! Snow leopards shut up."
"Okay, please continue."
"It was during the first sester of the ninth grade," Li Hua reminisced, his expression unexpectedly peaceful.
Who doesn’t love talking about past crushes, it’s just a matter of finding the right ti.
Boarding students probably would insert this mory during nightti chats.
Listening to roommates’ cheering noises, smiling in the dark.
Eventually, it turns into a silent sigh amidst outrageous jokes.
"It was winter at the ti, one morning was particularly cold. I just felt like it would snow, and sure enough, it snowed at noon."
"The entire teaching building was cheering, the teacher wouldn’t let us leave the classroom but allowed us to watch by the windows. So a group of us rushed over."
"She... you know, she sat by the window. I was the first to get there, followed by a crowd pressing against , almost pinning against the wall."
"Those who knew we were watching snow would think I was getting smothered."
"It was the closest I had ever been to her, close enough to see her eyelashes clearly. The sun was shining, it was weird, the peach fuzz on her face was golden."
"At that ti, I really wanted to talk to her, but there were too many people. After hesitating for a while, I lost the chance, I never found a chance to talk to her after."
"Up until the high school entrance exam, I morized her exam location and seat number in advance. I scoured seven or eight stationery stores and found so very nice refills, bought them all."
"I was such an idiot back then, not checking the refill model. It was 0.35, isn’t this a setup? At that ti, you needed a 0.5 refill for the exam card scan."
"When I found her exam hall, she was standing in the hallway. Although she was a bit short, her hair was very clean, looked really nice in the sun."
"My face was definitely very red, stamred and just gave them to her. She just ’oh’ed and then looked up at and smiled."
In the class, the English dictation had already started, but Li Hua clearly wanted to finish his story.
He gulped, retelling this event from three years ago, and still felt nervous.
"At that ti, you know, we made eye contact, damn."
"From eting her to the high school entrance exam, I don’t think we exchanged more than twenty sentences in total. But when we made eye contact, I just knew she... she."
"It’s like she definitely knew sothing, it felt like we were very familiar, as if we had chatted a hundred nights before."
"At that mont, I felt like confessing directly would advance our relationship."
"All that was needed was a chance to sound the bugle, but I thought there would be a math exam later. Her math wasn’t great, so I didn’t want to distract her."
"Missed that chance, and then I never dared to go to her exam hall. Originally thought about finding her after the exams, but she disappeared after the exams."
"I asked around, and she was picked up by her mom in a car."
"Later realized I couldn’t contact her, damn it, you know how I spent that sumr?"
"Damn, not kidding, I couldn’t even get aroused by Yuyu."
"Until almost the start of high school, I was almost forgetting about it when suddenly I received a text ssage on my cell."
"Can you believe it? In this day and age, soone still sends text ssages."
"She went to study in a neighboring county, because Zhenan Middle School was just damn disappointing, a pure trash high school."
"She went to a new high school, only brought an old phone. So she could only send texts once a month."
"I knew she was anxious at first living on campus, cried on the first night. But every ti I learned about it, it was basically a month later."
"You know, it just felt expired. It’s not that she expired, but I did."
Finishing his story, halfway through the English dictation.
Li Hua hastily tried peeking around to copy words, Jiang Nian turned directly to copy from Zhang Ningzhi.
While writing, an image ford in his mind.
On a winter’s day during break ti filled with sunshine, Hua’s crush, the little girl, with snow-like cheeks, was staring outside at the thick snow through the classroom window in a daze amid the crowd.
Originally, he wanted to play a small wordplay joke on Li Hua with sothing like the phrase "pigmightfly" (impossible thing).
Broken down, it’s "pig" (pig), "might" (might), "fly" (fly). Together, it ans unless pigs fly, she won’t like you.
But Jiang Nian quickly dismissed the idea, too damn dangerous.
Judging by Li Hua’s previous excited state, he probably still rembered his dream girl. If Da Chao played a trick on him, he might tear him apart.
Five minutes later, dictation ended.
After cheating, Li Hua ca over with a face full of post-confession relief.
"Jiang, what was the word morization thod you ntioned earlier?"
Jiang Nian thought for a mont and replied.
"Review them several tis."
"You die!" Li Hua instantly launched the Choking Technique!
Zhang Ningzhi had been eavesdropping intently from the start, never missing a piece of gossip.
Despite Li Hua speaking softly, her linguistic sense was extraordinary. She pieced together the general story from snippets.
She really wanted to know the ending, but felt embarrassed to ask.
So she turned to Jiang Nian, and he t her gaze, she blinked.
Jiang Nian understood her aning and held up one finger.
aning one box of lemon tea.
Zhang Ningzhi pouted, found a drink in the drawer, and handed it to him.
"Here you go."
Jiang Nian chuckled, turned to ask Li Hua.
"Do you still keep in touch?"
Li Hua was stunned, scratched his head, and didn’t answer.
.....
Lin Dong just finished dictation, glanced at his deskmate Sun Zhicheng.
"Ah Cheng, did you really put on one with a hood?"
At this ti, Sun Zhicheng was wearing a gray hoodie, full of lancholy on his face.
"Don’t ntion it, I asked the Psychological Commissioner yesterday."
"What did she say?"
"She suggested I take a break from school."
