During the morning attendance, Cai Xiaoqing discovered that two boarding students in the class were absent.
She left her seat and asked their roommates.
"Where are Yang Qiming and Huang Caicai?"
Their roommates were confused and shook their heads.
"We don’t know."
Cai Xiaoqing frowned and went to ask Lin Dong.
"Do you know where they went?"
Lin Dong shook his head, "I switched dorms earlier. When I ca to the classroom, I saw that no one had left their dorm yet. They might have overslept."
Chen Yunyun turned around and couldn’t help but speak up.
"I heard soone say that Dorm 5 seems to have had a late-night inspection by the teachers."
The school is stricter with boarders, conducting inspections half the ti during the week. They check for late returns or those leaving the dorm late at night.
A winter tradition, at six thirty-five in the morning.
If you can’t get up in the dorms, you’ll be blocked there, lining up to register your na and class.
At the worst tis, if caught, you’ll be made to stand outside until the morning class bell rings. Not going to the teaching building counts as skipping class, but if you go, you’ll be marked tardy.
When dealing with students, the school leaders always have ways.
"Even if they got caught, they should have been here by now." Cai Xiaoqing looked at her watch; nearly ten minutes of morning study had passed.
At this, Yu Zhiyi couldn’t help but turn and say.
"Maybe... they were caught downstairs too, so they went for breakfast."
"Hey, that might be the case." Lin Dong couldn’t help but speak up, "The school leaders are really sothing, blocking here and catching there, hitting us from both sides."
"The student union is also pretty bad, always targeting us." Chen Yunyun couldn’t help but say, "Last winter, a student union mber shut the iron gate to the dormitory."
"The dorm supervisor aunt was out, and the keys were with them. They refused to open the door no matter what, keeping it shut until morning study started."
"Yeah, Yuhe and I each got our nas taken twice!" Wang Yuhe said resentfully, her past self was too soft and should have cursed them back.
Sun Zhicheng stood in his seat, focused on his morning reading, appearing to be absorbed in his studies. In reality, he was listening to their conversation, itching to join in.
He really wanted to chi in with his thoughts.
But... he couldn’t.
Brother Dong had repeatedly asked him if he wanted to give it up, and every ti, he chose yes. Even if it felt like losing sothing, he held firm.
He wanted a new beginning, to beco stronger.
Lin Dong’s advice to him was not to talk to Chen Yunyun or pay attention to her for a week. Stay calm and collected, and gradually he would get stronger.
Sun Zhicheng believed it, but now realized... it was tough.
People can’t go against their hearts, but rationality kept him distant. Only a few minutes felt like days to him.
But he rembered Brother Dong’s words: it would only be tough for the first few days, and after getting through a week, it would be much easier.
The filter would disappear, and his focus would return to himself.
Cai Xiaoqing left; she wasn’t here to listen to them chat.
Two people missing from class, and soon the student union would co to check the headcount. The check wasn’t the issue, but she was worried about anything happening to Yang Qiming and the others.
Halfway through morning self-study, the people still hadn’t shown up.
Cai Xiaoqing couldn’t sit still any longer. After thinking for a mont, she stepped onto the podium.
"Quiet down, and can anyone tell if they know...."
.....
"I don’t understand, why do you keep saying it’s over, Cailang?" Yang Qiming stood up from the ground, shaking three tis in the cold wind.
"Damn, it’s so cold."
"Didn’t the keys just fall downstairs? No big deal."
At this, Huang Cailang, crouching and shivering in the corner, looked up.
"Brother Yang, squat here with ."
"No need, I’ll check the situation so more." Yang Qiming sneezed twice, sniffling as he looked at the golden dawn.
"Ah, the sun, it’ll be warm once it’s out."
To this, Huang Cailang hesitated to speak.
The sun before nine in the morning wasn’t warm, and today wasn’t particularly sunny. More likely they’d freeze than bask in the sun.
However, Yang Qiming was an optimist. He said,
"Don’t worry, Cailang. If the discipline committee sees we’re not there, they’ll definitely send our roommates to find us. Then we’ll be saved."
Hearing this, Huang Cailang couldn’t help but feel more hopeful.
"Really, brother?"
Yang Qiming laughed heartily, giving a thumbs-up in the wind while wearing only shorts.
"Of course, it’s true."
Huang Cailang almost lost it, asking,
"Brother, why are you still giving a thumbs-up?"
Yang Qiming looked down and imdiately felt embarrassed.
"Don’t ntion it, it’s the cold."
After saying this, Yang Qiming felt utterly embarrassed. It was supposed to be a cool mont. Thankfully, Cailang was his brother, so it didn’t matter.
He quickly found a corner to shield himself from the wind, maintaining a distance of four or five ters from Huang Cailang to continue holding their position.
Suddenly, there was a gurgling noise.
Yang Qiming looked up, following the sound.
He saw Huang Cailang clutching his stomach with a pained expression.
"Brother, I’m hungry."
"Hey, hold on a bit. People will be here soon." Yang Qiming felt a bit guilty, since the keys were lost on his watch. "I’ll treat you to breakfast later."
Upon hearing this, Huang Cailang instantly brightened up.
"Thanks, brother."
After another ten minutes, as the cold wind battered them, they finally heard voices.
"Where is it?"
"Which one was it, 51 sothing, I forgot the web address." Jiang Nian said.
"Who asked you for the web address! Which dorm room, 51 what?" Cai Xiaoqing was extrely frustrated, urging, "Hurry up, let’s just take a quick look and leave."
On the dormitory stairs, Cai Xiaoqing quickened her pace.
Looking up, she saw the 5F sign and couldn’t help but furrow her brows.
"The dorm grandpa said there couldn’t be anyone in the dorm, could they be hiding sowhere eating breakfast?"
Originally, Cai Xiaoqing planned to call soone to take a look in the dorm, but they were still catching late-arrivals downstairs. It was hard to leave the senior building, so she decided to check herself.
As for Jiang Nian, he was just here for the fun.
Not sure how he snuck out, running towards the cafeteria, only to be caught by Cai Xiaoqing, who also planned to search there.
The Wall-climbing King was caught, and now had to redeem himself by helping out.
"They definitely aren’t there; the cafeteria has already been checked, right?" Jiang Nian said leisurely while sipping his soy milk, "There’s no one on the way either, definitely in the dorm."
"What if they’re not in the dorm?" Cai Xiaoqing asked.
Jiang Nian replied with an oh-no sound, "Then it’s over."
Cai Xiaoqing sighed in exasperation and led the way up to the fifth floor.
This was her first ti entering the boys’ dormitory, and the sll was a bit strange. It wasn’t exactly bad or good, rather like a mix of various odors.
The hallway was dimly lit, with light at both ends but dark in the middle.
A cool breeze swept through, making Cai Xiaoqing shiver. There was a rusty sll in the air, making her tongue start to tingle.
Thud, thud, thud, only the footsteps of two people echoed in the hallway.
The rooftop.
Huang Cailang and Yang Qiming were stunned, why did the discipline committee co personally? They both hung their heads and looked at the only fabric on their bodies.
The two fell silent. How on earth were they going to face anyone like this?
"Oh no! Bro!" Huang Cailang suddenly shouted, looking at Yang Qiming with horror, "The discipline committee and Jiang Nian ca; they don’t have our dorm keys."
Upon hearing this, Yang Qiming’s face turned pale.
Damn it, he forgot that the keys had fallen from the rooftop to the back of the dorm building.
Originally, it was just to see if the grade leaders had surrounded the back of the dorm building. If not, they could escape from the back on the first floor.
Who knew that a gust of wind would blow, and in a mont of surprise, the silver spare key he was holding got tossed downstairs.
