The sky outside was dark, but the classroom was brightly lit.
Wu Jungu was not present, so Chen Yunyun ran to his seat to chat with Jiang Nian.
She realized that she increasingly enjoyed chatting with Jiang Nian, as he could carry on any conversation she started.
Crucially, Jiang Nian could seamlessly continue the conversation without any awkward pauses. Chatting with him felt smooth and easy, making her happier the more they talked.
It wasn’t until the end of the evening self-study session that Chen Yunyun reluctantly left.
Her deskmate Li Hua also joined the conversation and knew who Chen Yunyun ca for. To be honest, he couldn’t really accept this possibility of conversation affecting their studies.
While his own failure was regretful, his friend’s success was even more troubling.
"Bro, when did you two beco so close?"
"Who?"
"Chen Yunyun, of course. She ca specifically to talk to you."
"Huh? What do you an by specifically?" Jiang Nian replied with a confused expression, retorting, "Didn’t she also co to you to discuss math answers?"
This excuse was plausible, as Chen Yunyun didn’t just chat with Jiang Nian. She included Li Hua and Huang Fang within her conversation circle as well.
Wu Jungu was absent, and Zeng You was engrossed in a novel, ignoring the world.
Zhang Ningzhi didn’t participate in the conversation either, instead lying on the desk doing howork and refusing to speak.
Li Hua mimicked Conan, adjusting his non-existent glasses.
"That’s what it looks like. She seems like a new friend of yours, doesn’t she?"
Just then, Lin Dong approached with a stack of math test papers. He stopped in front of Li Hua’s seat and interrupted their conversation with a test paper.
"Here you go, Brother Nian, your test paper."
Brother Nian?
Li Hua was stunned, listening to the almost sycophantic tone and looked at Lin Dong in shock. Since when did Lin Dong call him Brother Nian? When did they beco so familiar?
Wasn’t Chen Yunyun also in the sa group as Lin Dong? What’s going on?
Zhang Ningzhi was also drawn in and looked up from her pile of books, curiously glancing at Jiang Nian’s test scores.
"You scored 116, that’s impressive."
He confird from her eyes that it wasn’t sarcasm.
Yet Jiang Nian felt more uneasy, "Ha, not excellent enough. How did you...?"
"I don’t know, my test paper hasn’t been..." Before Zhang Ningzhi could finish, her test paper was handed over to her, "...issued."
Not just hers, but all of the sixth group’s test papers were found.
"See you, Brother Nian." Lin Dong left after finishing his business, keeping his rits hidden.
The sixth group.
The few who benefited from privileges turned their gazes toward Jiang Nian, each one eyeing him. Except for Wu Jungu, who had yet to return, they all looked at him with peculiar expressions.
Li Hua couldn’t hold back, "You haven’t betrayed our group, have you?"
"No."
Zeng You said, "The traitor has already revealed himself!"
Huang Fang: "Sothing fishy."
Zhang Ningzhi nodded, "Sneaky cat."
"What kind of adjective is that?" Jiang Nian began to sweat, "Isn’t it normal to make more friends?"
"Nian, as the leader of our group, I’m happy to see you’re good at socializing. But wouldn’t it be better to strengthen our internal cohesion before engaging in diplomacy?"
"What do you an?" Jiang Nian laughed.
Li Hua rubbed his chin, "For example, Brother Jun hasn’t returned to the classroom until right before the class starts these days. Aren’t you concerned?"
Zhang Ningzhi heard this, bit her lower lip, nodded vigorously to show her agreent.
"That’s right, that’s right."
"What? No..." Jiang Nian was at a loss for words, "Isn’t Brother Jun busy with his little girlfriend? He’s actually the least concerned about the group!"
Hmm? Zhizhi Baby, what’s with this dissatisfied tone?
"Brother Jun’s girlfriend is so pretty, it’s natural for him to pay more attention." Li Hua wasn’t letting this topic go, "If it were , I’d double the dowry."
"You’re a disgrace to Zhen Nan n, thinking about hitting the jackpot without a girlfriend." Jiang Nian scornfully said, "I’ll reward you with 380,000 as a dowry, you deserve it."
"Don’t generalize, not all Zhen Nan people are like what you say." Li Hua broke into a sweat and patted Huang Fang’s back.
"Hey, Huang Fang, how much do you guys get over there?"
Huang Fang glanced at him, said "You’re crazy," and turned back.
All was understood without words.
"City...cities are different, not as scary as you say," Li Hua stubbornly said, "You should ask Zhang Ningzhi, hey, don’t perpetuate these stereotypes."
"You’re so boring."
"Hahaha, your mother..." Jiang Nian burst into laughter, unable to stop.
Zhen Nan people have their regional black humor.
From the start of evening study, subject monitors took turns copying the subject answers on the board. Math was the first, Lin Dong was copying the answers at the front while the class below was full of whispers and scribbles.
Scribble, scribble, the sound of scribbling filled the room.
Zhang Ningzhi glanced at the blackboard, then rubbed her eyes.
"Can’t see clearly?"
"Huh?" She was startled by Jiang Nian’s sudden question, but after realizing, she softly humd, "A bit, the blackboard is reflecting."
"Alright, hold on a sec." Jiang Nian climbed over Li Hua’s seat, went to the platform, and said sothing to Lin Dong, who nodded.
When Jiang Nian ca down, Li Hua was staring at him with a grieving look.
Traitor!
The wound of betrayal never heals, so you’re planning to betray the group, aren’t you!
"What are you looking at for?" Jiang Nian pushed Li Hua aside, slid back into his seat, "Move over, your Fruit Treasure cha needs to get back in place."
Li Hua whimpered, "Betraying the group, hurting brothers, die under a thousand blades."
"You know the group rules well, Hua." Jiang Nian casually said, then turned to Zhang Ningzhi, "The answers will be passed around later, you can do sothing else in the anti."
"Oh, okay." Zhang Ningzhi felt a warm sensation in her heart.
Li Hua felt even more pained, realizing Jiang Nian was already closely connected with Lin Dong. He asked the subject monitor for the first-hand original answers to please a girl!
Bro, I wanted you to succeed, but not to this extent!
So frustrating!
"Nian, I’ll ask Ma Guojun to eat the test papers, and you can cut ties with Lin Dong." Li Hua was tearing up, "Seriously, Ma Guojun is willing to do anything."
Jiang Nian shook his head, speaking earnestly.
"Baby, I’ve been progressing, yet you’re still complacent. Lin Dong is the math class monitor, while you’re just the first in class for math."
"He has a position, you can’t stop from seeking better connections, right?"
Your mom! The first sword of success slashed at his brother’s back!
"Seriously, how did you two beco so chummy?" Li Hua asked quietly, "This dude here, how to say, aside from being a bit pretentious...."
"Nothing much, just helped him with a small favor."
A while later, Lin Dong indeed ca down with the math answers, handed them to Jiang Nian, and left. Jiang Nian took and showed Li Hua the explanation process of the last small question.
After he finished looking, he passed it to Zhang Ningzhi.
The answer circulated within the group, and everyone enjoyed the benefits of this privilege. Gradually, Li Hua’s sneer turned into a smile as he changed his tune.
"Lin Dong, this dude, actually not bad."
The whole answer-checking process continued from evening study to the second period of evening self-study, as the class softly discussed and managed to clarify almost all of the wrong questions.
Excluding those struggling in specific subjects with weaker foundations.
Zhang Ningzhi was patiently explaining a math problem to Jiang Nian, "You need to first draw the cone’s elevation view, the angle between the generatrix and base line is α, and another..."
Jiang Nian listened very attentively, making Zhang Ningzhi explain it twice.
Slurp slurp, the sound was so pleasant.
Li Hua snickered at the side, finding it amusing that he couldn’t understand such a simple problem. Jiang Nian must have been too embarrassed to ask him this kind of question directly.
Heh, couldn’t figure it out.
Suddenly, the once brightly lit classroom plunged into complete darkness.
The classroom went silent for two seconds.
The next mont.
"Oh woo!!! Woo woo!!!"
"The power’s out!! Damn it!"
"The power’s out!"
The darkness instantly engulfed everyone, and cheers erupted like a shattering vase, booming in the classroom.
The whole room was in an uproar; students stood up from their seats! The excitent was palpable, like animals freed from their cages!
The silvery moonlight stread through the windows, revealing dots of twinkling lights in the night.
"Quiet!" The discipline committee mber ca out to maintain order.
No one listened, and so even couldn’t believe they stood up. Their eyes widened, and the stress vanished in an instant!
"Ohhhhh!!! The power’s out!"
So seized the chaos to sneak out, like Wu Jungu, who went to the next class to find his girlfriend.
Class leader Li Qingrong looked at the rowdy class without reacting, nor had she any intention to go out and inquire. What should co would co, and if not, then not.
The room was too dark to do howork. She stared ahead for a few seconds, then turned her eyes to Jiang Nian’s desk, which was a black blur, with only so faint figures.
She touched her bear hair tie and relaxed her hair a bit.
Soone started hitting others with books in the dark, "Who hit my head? Which punk, was it you? Or you?"
"Damn it! Freak! Don’t touch my chicken!"
There were actually a few couples in class, but usually, Lao Liu didn’t care. During every self-study or even lecture, they’d quietly switch places, and now, they directly rged during the blackout.
So took the opportunity to confess, more often on soone else’s behalf. Everyone was excited, wanting to walk out or shout out the suppressed emotions in their hearts.
"I, Sun Zhicheng, like Chen Yunyun!"
"Get lost! Stop spreading rumors!"
Or they just hugged each other.
"Don’t be afraid, baby. It’s dark, and the teacher won’t see us."
"Alright."
Soone was singing: "I see, how much ti is left..."
"Fuck, can you change the song!"
"Sleep, sleep, this blackout is the best ti to sleep. Wake up when the class teacher cos, I’m gonna nap."
"Where are my glasses? Anyone with a light, shine it for , my glasses are missing!"
Several people already left the classroom, either for the restroom or to check the corridor. Li Hua was the first to run, going straight to the administration office to inquire.
Of the six mbers in the sixth group, one was a love-seeking Brother Lian’ai, and another a cheeky kid, Li Hua, had left.
Only Huang Fang remained in the darkness, quietly morizing vocabulary under the faint light. Sister Fang was truly the sole empress of group six, focused solely on studying without distraction.
When the power went out, the holy light that appeared on Zeng You’s face almost scared him to death. Seeing no one care, he secretly pulled out his phone, hiding it within books to continue reading his novel.
In the dim moonlight, Zhang Ningzhi quietly turned her head toward Jiang Nian’s direction. At the exact mont she turned, she t Jiang Nian’s gaze.
Her eyes widened in an instant, gasping softly.
In the faint moonlight, the curve of her face looked like a crescent. Her blurred lashes trembled slightly, and her gaze was like a mouthful of popping candy bouncing wildly.
Thump thump thump, the schoolgirl’s emotions were in disarray at this mont.
The joy of the blackout added an extra bit of sweetness.
