"Hey, take care, sir!"
Long Yue and his companions, having eaten and rested for a quarter of an hour, set off again, with the inn servant bidding them farewell energetically.
Watching as they rode away in the carriage, the inn servant gave a sinister smile.
Two n erged from behind him, dressed in black and masked. One of them said flatly, "Is it done?"
"Of course, I tampered with it, who could tell? When the horse goes mad, dragging the carriage recklessly, their only chance of survival will be to jump off! But jumping off a speeding carriage will surely injure them, and when we strike, it won’t take any effort to kill them!"
"What do you an kill them? The master only wants the man dead!"
The man in black said coldly, then waved his hand, and imdiately seven or eight people in black ran out of the woods, following together.
...
"Giddy-up, giddy-up, haha, sir, these horses run fast after eating so fodder, I reckon we’ll reach Puyang City in just over half an hour."
In the carriage, Long Yue leaned drowsily against Li Qingmu’s shoulder, while the coachman drove the carriage swiftly, as if so beast was chasing them.
Li Qingmu responded indifferently, his gaze turning profound.
"Coachman, let ask you a question."
"Speak, sir, I’m listening!"
"If the horse goes out of control, what should we do?"
"Huh?" The coachman was taken aback, his eyes flickering, then he laughed and said, "Sir, you’re joking! My driving skills are top-notch, no need to worry..."
"Whoa——"
The coachman hadn’t finished the word "worry" when the horses ahead let out a shrill neigh, stood up, and then abruptly charged forward.
"Thud, thud, thud!"
The hooves galloped desperately, the coach behind jolted and quickly followed.
"Ah, ah, help——"
The coachman was proud, who would have thought the horses would suddenly rampage? He cried out, waving his limbs, his head swinging side to side, catching a glimpse of two figures leaping out from the carriage windows left and right.
"Jump off quickly!"
It was Long Yue’s voice; only then did the coachman realize that he had to jump quickly, especially before the carriage picked up full speed; jumping now would cause less injury.
He made an effort, then jumped aside!
"Crack!"
"Ouch!"
He heard his bones cracking, the pain making him howl miserably, but before the cry could spread far, he saw nurous n in black charging out of the woods, wielding gleaming knives intent on killing him!
"Help!"
The coachman scread desperately; he felt dood!
At the crucial mont, a figure blocked his path; only a ’clang’ was heard, as a long blade halted the attack and with a reverse push, slashed across the neck of one of the n in black.
"Splurt!" Blood sprayed, splattering everywhere, so landing on the coachman; he felt nauseous but was too frightened to retch, feeling extrely uncomfortable.
"Clang clang clang..."
All around were the sounds of blades clashing; the coachman watched blankly as Long Yue and his wife slaughtered their enemies like reapers. Gradually, the n in black dwindled, and Li Qingmu was also wounded.
"Bang!"
One man in black collapsed directly in front of him, not dead, just subdued with a knee to the abdon, hands bound by Long Yue.
"Speak, who sent you?"
Long Yue’s gaze was icy cold, her body stained with blood from killing, looking quite terrifying.
Her eyes were slightly red, anger rising. Just traveling and they encountered assassins; were they considered easy prey, easily crushed?
"Humph!"
The man in black rely grunted coldly and turned away in defiance.
Li Qingmu pressed his left arm against the newly opened wound and walked over slowly.
He crouched down, looked down at the man, and said quietly, "Not willing to speak?"
The man in black glanced at him sideways, still arrogant.
Li Qingmu chuckled, turned to Long Yue, and said, "Yue’er, chop off his fingers and toes; later, find a place to make human at buns and force him to eat them."
The man in black suddenly widened his eyes with a look of horror.
"Take him with us. The road to Xinan is long and tedious, having a toy to play with is nice! We won’t give him food, but we can use local resources! His body is full of at; making at buns should keep him from starving, right?"
Li Qingmu spoke, slowly turning around, giving him a smile, showing a set of white teeth.
Sunlight fell, shining brightly on the white teeth, sending a chill from the man’s feet up through his body. He decided then and there to bite off his own tongue, but Li Qingmu was faster, with a "crunch," dislocated his jaw.
He patted the man’s cheek, smiling, "Enemies in my hands, I won’t let them die easily; at least, not starve or freeze to death. Yue’er, I recall that cowhide can be made into shoes; human skin, can it?"
"It can, although not as sturdy as leather, it’ll do!"
Long Yue responded with a smile, anwhile holding a dagger.
This dagger was perfect for severing fingers and toes, and the man in black watched the couple talk cheerfully about eating human flesh, turning green with fear.
These weren’t humans; they were clearly demons!
Long Yue and Li Qingmu exchanged a glance, then Long Yue stepped forward and chopped at his hand.
"Ah——"
It was just a pinky finger; the man in black let out a shrill scream but the sound was a bit muffled due to his dislocated jaw.
"I... I’ll surrender..."
The man in black was terrified; he decided to confess.
Facing a gentleman, a tough man appears to have a great advantage, his strong and loyal side might even earn respect, but what if you encounter a demon who doesn’t play by the rules?
At this mont, Long Yue and Li Qingmu transford into demons, terrifying the man in black.
"Speak! Who is it?"
"It’s... Mr. Pei..."
"Which Mr. Pei?"
"I don’t know either, I just know others call him Mr. Pei... Uh..."
As the man in black spoke halfway, Long Yue’s dagger already struck.
The blade pierced the heart; the man in black instantly perished!
Li Qingmu stared in shock at his wife, seeing her face cold as ice.
"Yue’er? This Mr. Pei..."
Li Qingmu felt she probably knew who Mr. Pei was.
Long Yue closed her eyes, slowly calming the anger in her heart, and said faintly, "Pei Jinheng, my... forr fiancé!"
"What?"
Li Qingmu was stunned, his eyes widened, even his breathing becoming hurried, his hands clenched tightly inside his sleeves.
Pei Jinheng, forr fiancé?
Long Yue turned and saw Li Qingmu’s pale face, embraced him tightly, muttering, "I’m sorry, A Mu, for bringing you so much danger, I... It’s my fault, I’m sorry for you..."
Li Qingmu almost died, the scars on his right hand still existed, as if constantly reminding her of the pain he had once suffered.
Every ti she thought of how he suffered in agony, Long Yue’s heart hurt greatly.
Ultimately, it was I who... owed him...
