Liu Ergou’s rant made Han Jiajia roll her eyes.
"Enough already! Can you say sothing a little more sensible?" Han Jiajia said, exasperated. "All this talk about n and won..."
"The Patrol Bureau isn’t picky. Besides, they’re here on official business—it doesn’t matter if the guide is a man or a woman! As for why I want you to go, the reason is simple. Acting as a guide for the Patrol Bureau might be dangerous, the kind of danger we police officers can’t handle. Even our guns are useless, so I thought this job would be perfect for you. After all, you’re a great fighter!"
With that, Han Jiajia looked at Liu Ergou with expectant eyes.
"So, Er Gou, can you help out? Be a guide for the Patrol Bureau. Don’t worry, the salary and everything else is negotiable!"
However, after a mont’s thought, Liu Ergou decisively refused her.
"Forget it, Jia Jia. I’m not interested in this kind of thing. I’m just a farr, so what if I can fight? The old saying is true: even a tiger can’t fight a pack of wolves. I’m no match for them if I’m outnumbered. So I’ve decided not to go."
Liu Ergou’s refusal didn’t surprise Han Jiajia. Still, she wasn’t ready to take no for an answer and continued to persuade him. "Er Gou, please, do this favor! You’re the most capable person I know; this job is perfect for you! And with things being so serious, helping out is the right thing to do."
Liu Ergou, who had been listless until then, suddenly perked up.
Is she trying to guilt-trip ? If she’s going to use moral obligation to pressure , then I’m definitely not getting involved, no matter what.
Thinking this, Liu Ergou said, "Jia Jia, I can’t help you with this. ’Ancient Martial Artist’ alone sounds formidable. My skills might be enough to handle ordinary people, but they’re likely useless against an Ancient Martial Artist. So stop trying to drag into this. If that’s all, I’m going back to get so rest."
With that, Liu Ergou turned to leave, giving her no room to argue.
Seeing this, Han Jiajia panicked. She hurriedly stepped in front of him, pleading, "Er Gou, you’re the only one who can help now. You’re so capable, please, help ! I’m begging you. I’ll agree to anything you ask, okay, Er Gou?"
Just as he was about to leave, Liu Ergou’s interest was suddenly piqued by her words.
So if I help her, she’ll agree to any of my conditions?
Confirming that these words had indeed co from Han Jiajia, Liu Ergou’s eyes lit up as he stared at her. "Jia Jia, are you sure? If I help you, you’ll agree to any of my conditions?"
Han Jiajia nodded vigorously. "That’s right, that’s right! As long as you help , anything is on the table!"
Seeing her agree so readily, the corners of Liu Ergou’s mouth crept upward into a sly grin.
Since she’s being so generous, I don’t need to be polite. She walked right into this herself.
With this in mind, Liu Ergou said with a smile, "Jia Jia, I find that a little hard to believe. Since you claim you’ll agree to anything, why don’t you prove it to first? Otherwise, I can’t just take you at your word."
As he spoke, a troubled expression appeared on his face.
Seeing this, Han Jiajia froze for a mont before her face turned bright red. "You... how do you want to prove it?" she asked shyly.
"Ah, this..." Liu Ergou deliberately feigned a troubled look. "That’s up to you. You’re the one who has to provide proof, not . So, you figure it out. But let be clear, if your sincerity isn’t convincing enough, I won’t be helping you, you know. I may not know what an Ancient Martial Artist is, but the na alone tells they’re powerful. I don’t have a death wish."
Hearing this, Han Jiajia no longer hesitated. She took a deep breath, quickly stepped forward, and gave his cheek a peck as light as a dragonfly skimming water before imdiately pulling back.
"Does that... does that prove it?" she whispered.
To her utter surprise, Liu Ergou shook his head resolutely. "Not enough, Jia Jia! It seems like you don’t really want my help. In that case, I’ll just head back."
Without another word, Liu Ergou stood up and turned to leave.
Seeing that he was serious, Han Jiajia panicked. She quickly stood up, cast aside her reservations, and planted a firm kiss on his face. Through gritted teeth, she asked, "There, is that enough now?"
Looking at her shy yet angry expression, Liu Ergou wanted to laugh, but he managed to suppress the urge.
"Still not enough!" he declared.
The mont she heard him say it still wasn’t enough, Han Jiajia felt like she was about to explode. She snapped, "Er Gou, are you just playing with ? After all that, it’s still not enough! If you don’t want to help, just say so! There’s no need to lead on like this. You’ve gone too far!"
Her words didn’t anger him. Instead, he said, "Jia Jia, think about it. If two Ancient Martial Artists start fighting, wouldn’t a regular person like standing nearby be in maximum danger? If the person from the Patrol Bureau loses, wouldn’t I be done for? By that logic, this job is life-threatening! I, Liu Ergou, might not be fabulously wealthy, but I have enough to live comfortably for the rest of my life. Why should I risk my neck for sothing that has nothing to do with ? Am I wrong? The only reason I’m even considering this is because of you. So you need to show so *real* sincerity!"
His speech left Han Jiajia seeing stars. But after thinking it over, she realized he had a point. The job really was that dangerous. Although she wanted to refute him, she couldn’t find the words. All she could do was ekly admit, "Okay, okay, you’re right! Er Gou, then how should I prove it? How can I show you my sincerity?"
No sooner had the words left her mouth than Liu Ergou swiftly stepped forward, wrapped his arms around her, and lowered his head to kiss her on the lips.
In that mont, Han Jiajia could never have dread that Liu Ergou would do such a thing. She stood frozen to the spot, unsure how to react.
After a good ten seconds, she finally ca to her senses. As soon as she did, she began pounding on his chest, trying to push him away.
