After all that was done, Feng Chunling finally turned her head and said to Liu Ergou, "Who told you I was heartbroken?"
"I was crying about sothing else. What are you thinking!" she added, rolling her eyes dramatically.
Caught off guard by Feng Chunling's response, Liu Ergou was montarily speechless and could only stand there, stunned. It took nearly a full minute for him to snap out of it.
"Oh, so that's how it is!" Liu Ergou said as he reached out and embraced Feng Chunling. "Let guess, then. What made you cry?"
"Was it because you missed so much?"
With that, Liu Ergou suddenly scooped Feng Chunling up in a princess carry and strode toward the bedroom. As he walked, he said, "Auntie, if you don't say anything, I'll take that as a yes! Since you miss so much, I can't possibly let you down!"
As he spoke, the hand supporting Feng Chunling gave her bottom a firm squeeze before he quickly stepped into the room.
However, as soon as he entered, Liu Ergou saw Yang i sitting in the living room. Her expression was just as troubled as Feng Chunling's had been, and her eyes were red from crying.
When Yang i saw Liu Ergou, her face lit up with joy.
"Er Gou, you're here!" she exclaid, stepping forward to give Liu Ergou a kiss.
Liu Ergou gently set Feng Chunling down and then embraced both mother and daughter, one with each arm.
"Yeah, I'm here!" Liu Ergou said with a grin. "I've been busy these past two days, so I couldn't co to see you. Hehe, but I have ti today. Let's have a good, long heart-to-heart!"
As he spoke, Liu Ergou began to walk toward the bedroom with both won in his arms, his hands already starting to rove mischievously over their bodies. This sent both Yang i and Feng Chunling into fits of laughter.
But after just a few steps, Liu Ergou noticed a photograph hanging on the wall and fell silent.
Although Mr. Yang hadn't done much good while he was alive, as the old saying goes, one must respect the dead. The man had only been dead for a couple of days, and here he was, about to get into bed with his wife and daughter right in front of his portrait. Though the thought was thrilling, it was deeply immoral. Liu Ergou was no saint, but even he had his moral limits.
After a mont's thought, he sighed and let go of the two won. This left Feng Chunling and Yang i perplexed, wondering why he had suddenly stopped.
Seeing their confused expressions, Liu Ergou explained, "Ah, let's forget it. This isn't right."
"There's an old saying: 'Respect the dead.'"
"This isn't right," Liu Ergou repeated. "Let's just forget it."
Feng Chunling and Yang i understood what he ant, so they didn't say anything more. The three of them sat down on the living room sofa and began to chat.
"Auntie, you were crying when I arrived. What happened? Why the sudden tears? Were you really that sad?" Liu Ergou asked.
Feng Chunling shook her head but didn't answer him directly. She only said, "Er Gou, this has nothing to do with you, so don't ask."
"I'll handle this myself. You don't need to worry about !"
Hearing this, Liu Ergou couldn't help but frown. For her to say that, there must be sothing I don't know about. And it's probably trouble.
Just as Liu Ergou was about to press further, Yang i, who was beside them, suddenly spoke up. "Mom, Er Gou is practically family. Just tell him."
"He might be able to help us. You can't fight those people on your own!"
Upon hearing this, Liu Ergou didn't hesitate and imdiately asked, "Yang i, tell what's going on!"
Yang i didn't mince words. "What else could it be? It's my dad's relatives. As soon as he died, they all ca over demanding a share of the inheritance! That property is ours, so of course, Mom refused to give it to them. We've been arguing about it for days now!"
"I…"
Before Yang i could finish, Feng Chunling lunged forward and covered her daughter's mouth. "Yang i, who said you could talk?" she said, annoyed. "Didn't I tell you? This has nothing to do with Er Gou. There's no need to tell him. I can handle it!"
As Liu Ergou was about to say sothing, a commotion erupted outside the gate. He could hear at least three or four people shouting.
The next second, the gate was hamred with a loud THUD! THUD!, accompanied by shouting.
"Feng Chunling, stop playing dead in there! Hurry up and open this gate! If you don't open up right now, we're kicking it down! Do you hear ?"
When Feng Chunling heard the shouting, her face turned pale, and Liu Ergou broke out in a cold sweat.
It's a good thing I didn't lose my mind and do sothing with Feng Chunling and Yang i just now. Otherwise... the consequences would have been unimaginable. All hell would have broken loose.
As Liu Ergou wiped the sweat from his brow, Feng Chunling urgently tugged at his arm, pointing toward the bedroom. "Er Gou, quick, go hide in the bedroom! If they see you here, it'll be a disaster!"
Hearing this, Liu Ergou instinctively started toward the bedroom, but he stopped after a few steps, having co to his senses.
"No, Auntie, why should I hide?" Liu Ergou said with a frown. "If I hide, I won't be able to talk my way out of this even if I had a thousand mouths! Don't worry, I'll just sit right here. I want to see for myself what's going on!"
With that, Liu Ergou sat back down on the sofa.
At that mont, it dawned on Feng Chunling. He's right.
While the two were talking, the pounding outside grew more and more frantic.
"Feng Chunling, why haven't you opened the door yet? Are you hiding a man in there? Open up!"
"If you don't open this door right now, we're kicking it in!"
Hearing the incessant shouting, Feng Chunling could no longer afford to hesitate and hurried to open the gate. The mont she opened the door, five people surged inside, knocking her to the ground in the process.
Seeing this from the living room, Liu Ergou rushed out, with Yang i right behind him.
The mont Liu Ergou stepped into the courtyard, the scene exploded into chaos.
One of the middle-aged won pointed a finger at Liu Ergou and shrieked, "Hah! So it's true, Feng Chunling! You really are hiding a man in here!"
"We were right all along! Pah! You slut!"
