Chapter 1649: Chapter 1652: I Promise You, To Temporarily Part Ways with Lily
“I think she must have blad us for Lily being hospitalized… I… I didn’t fight back… For you, Aidan, I didn’t fight back…”
Emily Taylor sobbed, her body trembling with grief, clutching her son’s arm desperately in an effort to make him stay.
Mr. Lucas, however, emotionlessly shook her off and sneered coldly: “Mom, you weren’t like this before. In the past, even though you were easily swayed and liked to listen to your family’s words, at the very least, you were a reasonable and understanding mother. These years, ever since the old lady passed… maybe it’s the lack of her discipline… you’ve truly changed a lot…”
“I… Aidan, I don’t understand what you’re saying…” Emily’s gaze flickered as she stubbornly denied it.
“Don’t understand?” The disappointnt in Aidan Lucas’s eyes deepened.
“Mom, even though I’m your son, I’m not a brainless fool. You’re saying that Lily’s mother slapped you the mont she saw you because Lily was hospitalized. Think carefully, if soone else told you this, would you believe it?”
“I… I would.” Emily forced out an answer that betrayed her true self.
She knew, of course, she wouldn’t believe it.
Sylvia Scott was no shrew, and the one responsible for Lily ending up in the hospital wasn’t her. There wasn’t any reason for her to slap her upon eting.
“You would?”
Mr. Lucas rarely laughed.
But this ti, it wasn’t a cold laugh—it was an inscrutable, enigmatic smile.
“Alright then. Let’s assu what you’ve said is the truth. Then tell , what do you want to do?”
“Of course, to stand up for your mother!” Emily blurted without hesitation.
“Stand up for you? How? Do you want Lily to apologize to you, or Sylvia to apologize to you, or perhaps you want to slap her in return?”
Aidan’s tone was indifferent, devoid of any emotion.
As if this had nothing to do with him.
“N-no need to slap her back…” Emily was not a cruel person. Knowing she was in the wrong, she didn’t dare really ask Aidan to act violently.
“If possible, you and Lily should stay apart for a while. Her mother is unreasonable, and she… she and Austin Lucas… sigh, anyway, no matter what, wait until the child is born, then we’ll talk.”
The child must stay with the Lucas family.
Lily and Aidan weren’t officially married now anyway, and Lily’s na had already been removed from the civil registry.
Emily thought she had it all planned out—no matter what, they could wait for the rumors about Lily and Austin Lucas to die down. Once everything cald down, they could revisit the situation.
By then, if Aidan and Lily still cared for each other, remarrying wouldn’t be out of the question.
If the distance strained their bond and their feelings faded, then they could go their separate ways.
Emily’s own marriage had been miserable, and she didn’t want her son to repeat her mistakes.
She believed Aidan was blinded by his emotions, which was the only reason he insisted that Austin Lucas had nothing to do with Lily.
“Stay apart for a while? Alright.” There was no resistance or objection as she had anticipated.
To her surprise, Aidan Lucas agreed to it calmly.
“Aidan, you’re serious? You’re really agreeing?!” Emily’s eyes lit up, surprise and excitent flashing across them.
“Yes, I agree.”
“Aidan… as long as you agree, as long as you agree…” Emily was so overjoyed that she didn’t even know what to say.
But before that joy could take root, she heard Aidan’s icy, detached voice cut through the mont.
“Uncle inford that the Lucas family will be holding a family eting next week. During the eting, there will be a vote to decide whether to recognize Theodore Lucas’s identity.”
Aidan spoke slowly, deliberately, watching every shift in Emily’s expression as he continued.
“Theodore… Theodore Lucas… Your grandpa said he was already dead! How can he co back now?!”
