Chapter 1653: Chapter 1656: Mother-in-law Is Very Satisfied with Her Son-in-law (Extra 2)
Sylvia Scott frowned slightly when she saw an unfamiliar man walk through the door.
But when she caught sight of Aidan Lucas’s features and his deanor, and then heard him speak,
her already delicate and lovely face lit up with a smile, becoming even more radiant than before.
“So you’re Ethan Wilson. I’ve heard so much about you from our little treasure… Co in, co in, quickly.”
Sylvia Scott took the initiative to greet Aidan Lucas and guided him to sit inside.
Her enchanting almond eyes scanned Mr. Lucas thoroughly from head to toe and then back up again.
Last ti, at the charity gala, she couldn’t get a close look. The dim lighting of the venue had kept her from truly seeing what her son-in-law looked like.
Now, standing this close, Sylvia Scott imdiately felt that Aidan Lucas looked even more handso, charming, and likable than the last ti she saw him.
Look at him—so humble, so polite.
Yet at the sa ti, he carried himself with asured poise, neither servile nor arrogant.
He was nothing like those reckless playboys she’d encountered, who were frivolous and disrespectful.
Nor was he like Richard Coldwell, the stiff and humorless family heir who always carried an air of superiority.
“Madam, I won’t sit; please, you sit.”
Aidan Lucas smiled faintly, gently helping Sylvia Scott into a chair.
His voice was deep, smooth, and magnetic, as he looked straight into Sylvia Scott’s eyes while speaking to her.
“I’ve co today specifically to confess and apologize. Both you and Lily’s father entrusted Lily to , and I should have kept her safe. But now, I’ve failed her—she got hurt in my territory and ended up in the hospital. This is entirely my fault.”
“Not only that, but my mother misunderstood Lily due to so baseless rumors. If, in the past, she said anything offensive to Lily, I want to take this opportunity to apologize on her behalf. Please rest assured that I’ve spoken to her. She understands now that she had a mistaken perception of Lily, and this won’t happen again.”
In his entire life, there had been few monts when Mr. Lucas had humbled himself, aside from when it ca to Lily.
But now, facing Sylvia Scott, he bowed his head.
Not only that, but his apology was sincere, and the words he spoke were heartfelt.
Even his gaze reflected genuine remorse and visible regret and self-reproach.
Sylvia Scott’s eyes softened slightly; in her heart, she couldn’t feel more satisfied with Aidan Lucas as her son-in-law.
Yet, outwardly, she still put on a composed air and deliberately replied, “Your mother is your mother. You are you. While our Lily may be our treasure, we wouldn’t wrongfully accuse anyone. Yes, you’ve been good to Lily, and that’s comndable… But Ethan, you must understand, neither I nor Lily’s father have ever formally agreed to entrust you with our daughter!”
“I understand.” Mr. Lucas nodded in complete agreent, showing not the slightest resistance to Sylvia Scott’s words.
“eting you, Madam, has brought imnse joy, and I couldn’t help but voice my inner thoughts. During these past days with Lily by my side, I’ve constantly reminded myself that she is the precious treasure of both you and her father, and I must treat her as though you personally entrusted her to my care.”
As he spoke, a fleeting blush passed through Aidan Lucas’s typically composed, dark eyes.
Lily, seated behind Sylvia Scott, was utterly stunned!
She hadn’t known that Aidan Lucas had this level of theatrical talent—it was almost on par with her brother’s skills!
Sylvia Scott’s sharp observation naturally didn’t miss the subtle shift in Mr. Lucas’s expression.
Seeing Mr. Lucas’s striking appearance, exceptional capability, humble and polite nature,
his thoughtfulness and respectfulness towards elders,
and most importantly, his wholehearted devotion to Lily,
a mother-in-law couldn’t help but appreciate her son-in-law even more with every passing mont.
On top of that, Aidan Lucas’s endless list of virtues made Sylvia Scott completely forget about Duke Redington’s instruction to test him.
Her stern deanor quickly lted away as she began smiling brightly and peppering Mr. Lucas with questions.
Poor Lily, her voice hoarse and unable to speak.
Even if she wished to intervene, she couldn’t stop her ever-graceful and poised mother from suddenly transforming into a relentless community committee lady, interrogating Mr. Lucas about his ancestors going back eighteen generations.
