Chapter 1721: Chapter 1724: You Nolan Lucas Acknowledge a Thief as Your Mother
The mont the voice fell, the door swung open.
Everyone in the room turned their gaze almost simultaneously toward the doorway.
First, a tall and imposing figure appeared in view. The man wore gold-frad glasses, and his cold, aloof eyes pierced through the lenses, landing directly on Nolan Lucas.
As his gaze t Nolan’s, he curled his lips into a sneer filled with unhidden mockery.
“Mr. Lucas, I’ve brought the person.” Benjamin Lucas IX finished speaking and stepped aside, clearing the doorway.
A distinctive ‘clack-clack-clack’ sound followed as a wheelchair rolled into view next to Benjamin.
Sitting on the wheelchair was a woman, her long hair obscuring half her face, making it difficult to see her clearly.
She wore a washed-out hospital gown. The oversized garnt hung loosely, accentuating her already pale and frail body, making her appear even more shrunken.
The woman seed completely unaware, sitting dazedly in the chair. Her hair was exceedingly long but streaked with gray, lacking any luster.
She slumped to one side in the wheelchair as Benjamin Lucas IX pushed her forward, wheeling her directly in front of everyone.
Still, she remained motionless, showing no response whatsoever.
“She… she is…” Nolan Lucas’s voice choked, his disbelief obvious as he stared at the woman.
She… could she be his biological mother?
But how could this be?
How could she be so frail, so ruined, so pitiful?
Benjamin Lucas IX didn’t answer, standing silently behind the woman.
Without a reply, Nolan Lucas found himself instinctively stepping forward.
Step by step, he slowly moved closer to the woman.
Then he reached out…
His long fingers trembled in the air as Nolan gradually approached her.
Just as he was about to push aside the woman’s disheveled and gray-streaked hair to catch a glimpse of her face, a sudden cry rang sharp from behind.
“Nolan, don’t…!”
Tara Hammond rushed forward from behind and threw herself around Nolan Lucas.
“No, Nolan, don’t trust them… This is Ethan Wilson’s sche. He lost his position as the head of the family and now he can’t stand seeing us live peacefully. You can’t believe what he says. Your mother, even if she were still alive, could never look like this. She left peacefully back then with the money; she could never have fallen to this state. Ethan Wilson is trying to alienate us, mother and son, using this elaborate setup!”
Tara Hammond clung tightly to Nolan Lucas’s clothes, determined not to let him take another step forward.
Yet Nolan Lucas turned his gaze toward the woman slumped before him, her head tilted and lifeless.
Then he looked back at Tara Hammond, who was clutching him desperately, pleading with all her strength.
At that mont, Nolan Lucas fell into an agonizing dilemma.
On one side was his foster mother who had raised him, sacrificed so much for him, and loved him through the years.
On the other side was the biological mother delivered by an adversary, possibly nothing more than a guise, a trap.
After a fierce internal struggle, Nolan Lucas made his decision.
“Mom, don’t worry, don’t worry… I won’t look. No matter who she is, I won’t believe it. As long as we’re together as a family, that’s enough for .”
It wasn’t that he was rejecting his biological mother, but just as Tara Hammond had said, he couldn’t trust Ethan Wilson.
Nolan resolved to deal with things later—he would send people to investigate and seek out his biological mother on his own.
Whatever the truth, he refused to place trust in soone brought to him by Ethan Wilson.
Nolan Lucas embraced Tara Hammond and was about to turn back when Benjamin Lucas IX suddenly sprang into action.
Benjamin made no effort to conceal his disdain for Nolan Lucas, mocking him openly: “Others recognize thieves as their fathers, but you, Nolan, recognize thieves as your mother. That woman you’re clinging to—the one you treat as gospel—is the very person responsible for your biological mother’s lifeti of suffering. Nobody but you could take her words as divine truth.”
With those cutting words, Benjamin Lucas IX abruptly reached out and swept aside the woman’s long hair.
A face, gaunt yet achingly familiar, erged before everyone’s eyes.
