"Alright, alright, I’ll kneel... whatever you say to kneel on, I’ll kneel on."
David Redington extended his long arm to embrace his girlfriend sitting on the sofa. Even though he had no idea what a washboard was, he nodded indulgently.
Leslie, who was feeling a bit annoyed, couldn’t maintain her aloof heartthrob persona in front of David’s overwhelming display of doting husband, and couldn’t say anything harsh.
She could only nuzzle her face into his shoulder, leaning softly in his arms, "No next ti, don’t team up with Xavier to bully , he’s my brother."
"Alright, no next ti, from now on, it’ll just be you and your brother bullying ." David’s voice was low and pleasant, utterly spoiling his wife, with none of the airs of an aristocrat.
His left hand gently rested on Leslie’s still-flat stomach as he added, "And also him (or her)."
"Who?"
Leslie was utterly perplexed by David’s "him."
"Of course him, the baby my Leslie is having for ." David’s lowered brows and profoundly tender dark blue eyes revealed deep affection.
It took Leslie a good three or four seconds before she ca to her senses.
She gasped in disbelief, "You, you’re saying I’m... here...?"
She had never been a mother and didn’t know what changes pregnancy would bring.
David, however, had taken care of Lily before and witnessed his sister’s pregnancies and childbirths. He was familiar with symptoms like a pregnant woman’s drowsiness, emotional fluctuations, moodiness, and morning sickness.
But mostly, when he suspected his girlfriend might be pregnant and did a quick calculation—
"Honey, have you not noticed that your monthly visitor is already a week late?"
"I..." Leslie was slightly taken aback.
She honestly hadn’t noticed.
With so much going on lately, and her filming nearing completion, she was constantly rushing from shoot to shoot.
Then, because of the Wallace family’s affairs, David inexplicably entrusted their wedding arrangents to the Wallaces. Although Leslie believed David had his reasons for doing so, she still felt sowhat resentful.
She didn’t like the Wallace family at all, except for her little Xavier.
So, even if the outside world thought she was ungrateful and emotionally detached from the family that had raised her for years, she didn’t want to have any ties with them at all.
"Are you really sure it’s pregnancy? Could it be a mistake?" Leslie, thinking about the Wallace family, instinctively grabbed David’s hand.
If she was really pregnant, they couldn’t delay their wedding.
By then, the Wallace family would inevitably show up.
It was a terrible feeling.
Seemingly noticing the unease in Leslie’s eyes, David intuitively felt his girlfriend must be pregnant; otherwise, why would she beco so sensitive and fragile?
"It could be a mistake, but it’s more likely that I’ve guessed right. Don’t worry, I’ll arrange for you to get checked soon."
David got up to take his cell phone, but Leslie’s delicate fingers clutched at his sleeve, slightly trembling.
"Wait a minute, I... I’m not ready yet..."
She knew David would be a good father, but for all her outward confidence, she lacked self-assurance.
That night, she had a strong desire to give David a baby.
But then, she thought of her own mother.
Leslie didn’t know if, with that kind of bloodline, she might beco an unfit mother in the future.
Her hands trembled slightly as she looked at David and said, "I, I’m a little scared."
David understood his girlfriend’s anxiety.
Her original family was truly awful; perhaps she had so happy monts in her childhood, but her father passed away early, leaving her and Sheila Fletcher to wander.
Before Leslie beca a child star and started to beco famous, life was tough for the mother and daughter.
Although material needs were eventually t, there was an extre lack of emotional fulfillnt.
Sheila Fletcher was not a good mother; she didn’t set a good example for Leslie. If Leslie hadn’t had the right values and a resilient personality, she might have gotten lost in the chaotic entertainnt circle long ago.
