The words of the two midwives made the faces of Madam Zhou and Purple Jade change simultaneously. Realizing their mistake, the midwives hurriedly tried to redy the situation.

"But that’s extrely rare. Madam is a blessed person, and this child is considerate of her mother. It will certainly be born smoothly," Midwife Ma said, clapping her hands.

"Exactly,"

Purple Jade said, "You are all experienced. My Madam entrusts you with her care!" Seeing Madam Zhou’s face looking grim, she comforted her, "Don’t worry, Madam. The young lady will return soon and will surely arrive in ti for the young master’s birth."

Madam Zhou’s lips moved; she nodded with a smile.

"If Madam can still manage, perhaps you should walk around outside more. Isn’t it said that frequent movent makes childbirth easier?" Purple Jade suggested, seeing her looking listless.

Madam Zhou hesitated.

Purple Jade looked at the two midwives, who quickly agreed, "The young lady is right; being too delicate is unfavorable for childbirth. If Madam can endure the pain, moving more is appropriate."

Madam Zhou knew this, yet her current condition was unclear, unlike before, and this was an early labor. She dared not move recklessly, fearing any incidents would lead to regret.

"I’m a bit tired; I’ll rest for a while," Madam Zhou thought it over but was still too cautious to walk around outside.

"Then I’ll chat with Madam," Purple Jade said, dismissing the two midwives and staying to converse with Qiu Xiang on either side of her.

Rembering Hua Wushuang, who hadn’t left the ho yet, she said, "Let press the acupoints on Madam’s feet to relieve the swelling and pain."

Saying this, she lifted a corner of the blanket, removed Madam Zhou’s right sock, her gaze catching sight of two red moles on her foot, causing her heart to skip a beat. Her face, however, revealed nothing as she gently pressed the acupoints.

...

Madam Zhou’s childbirth experience indeed proved the midwife’s words right. Since moving into the birthing room, the intermittent pain persisted until the next evening without intensifying, and her cervix did not dilate.

If not for Madam Zhou feeling the pressure pain, it might not even seem like childbirth.

Hua Wushuang, who had been waiting anxiously without leaving, began to feel restless too. She even sought out a renowned old imperial physician specializing in won’s health to diagnose Madam Zhou, whose presumption left Purple Jade feeling rather helpless but grateful.

After all, she was anxious too.

The longer Old Imperial Physician Xu took to feel the pulse and the more questions he asked, the higher Purple Jade’s anxiety rose, never settling.

"Imperial Physician Xu, I carried this child easily, but I’m getting older. During six or seven months of pregnancy, my trip to Changan was also tiring, and I’m afraid I haven’t nurtured the fetus well. Is my child in my womb still healthy?" Madam Zhou couldn’t help but ask.

After two days of intermittent pain, her complexion turned ashen and wearied, making her seem older.

"Even with age, your health is well-conditioned. The fetus will stabilize well. I observe your physical condition and pulse; have you been treated by a renowned physician?" Old Imperial Physician Xu asked.

Purple Jade responded for Madam Zhou, "Senior Imperial Physician, the Ghost Doctor, who treated the Crown Prince before, has helped my Madam maintain her health."

"That’s it," Old Imperial Physician Xu stroked his beard. "With proper care, the fetus naturally will grow to full term. Your pulse is, however, stagnant, lacking the slippery pulse, which suggests you are not yet in labor; hence the cervix remains closed. As for the spotting and pressure pain, it’s the sign of a threatened miscarriage."
