At that mont, a sudden cough sounded from the direction of the bedroom.
The woman’s face turned pale.
Chen Shu’s footsteps paused, and he shot her a sinister glance.
The woman forced an awkward smile and said, "Um... don’t misunderstand, I’m just watching a drama."
Chen Shu let out a cold snort. "We’ll settle this later."
With that, he slamd the door and left.
The woman stood in place, stunned for a mont, then suddenly rushed into the bedroom. "Hurry and pack up! We need to leave... If he figures it out, he’ll kill us."
That man, when he goes berserk, is not human.

The cigarette between his fingers was already on its third, and Chen Shu had been waiting at the police station entrance for a long ti without seeing the person he was expecting.

Chen Shu shook his head. No, it wouldn’t work—there might be Gao Jie’s n inside too.
He couldn’t take the risk.
A sharp sting jolted him back to reality. Chen Shu flicked the cigarette away and tossed it out.
Just as he was about to roll up the car window, a large hand suddenly reached inside, grabbed his wrist, and yanked hard. Another hand slipped through the window and unlocked the central hand control.
The car door swung open, and Chen Shu was slamd onto the seat. A gun pressed against the carotid artery of his neck, freezing him in place. He instinctively raised both hands in surrender, daring not to resist.
In the darkness, Chen Shu’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at the man before him.
Even if he were turned to ash, he could still recognize him—Gao Jie’s personal bodyguard.
Cold sweat trickled down Chen Shu’s back as realization struck—Gao Jie didn’t trust him and had sent soone to keep him under constant watch.
The man patted Chen Shu down, found a USB drive, snorted, pulled him out of the car seat, and stuffed him into a van.
As the man was about to get into the van, he suddenly sensed sothing was off and glanced toward the flowerbed by the roadside.
A rustling sound ca softly from there.
The man squinted, clutching his pistol as he cautiously approached the flowerbed.
From inside the van ca the voice of his companion: "This place isn’t safe; let’s go!"
The man parted the bushes, and a stray cat suddenly darted out, agile in its leap and disappearing into the night.
Letting out a relieved breath, the man turned to leave—but then ca the sound of a gust behind him. His face tensed, and before he could turn around, a heavy club smashed down on his head.
Eyes wide, he fell to the ground, unwilling and unconscious.
Simultaneously, a muffled groan ca from inside the van as the companion was subdued.
Seizing the opportunity, Chen Shu leaped out of the van without hesitation.
From the night wind ca a lazy chuckle. "Where do you think you’re going?"
Chen Shu’s gaze snapped toward the source—a slim figure slowly erged from the shadows, dragging a wooden club in his right hand. The club scraped against the ground, not far from the man who’d been struck down monts earlier.
Chen Shu felt his scalp crawl as he stared in disbelief at the man’s sharp-featured face. "It’s you!"
The man from Yanshui Lane—the one who had been following Shen You’an.
In a flash of insight, Chen Shu recalled the warning Shen You’an had given him not long ago. His body erupted with goosebumps.
He’d always known she wasn’t ordinary—but her depths went far beyond what he’d imagined.
Suddenly, his thoughts turned to the events at Yanshui Lane. It had all started because Ma Liu had carelessly offended Mr. Liu, bringing so much calamity upon them.
Mr. Liu—soone like that—how could he possibly set foot in a squalid place like Yanshui Lane?
Standing beside him at the ti had been Shen You’an.
Could this all really be coincidence?
Chen Shu shivered, afraid to dwell on it further.
Wu Yong pointed across the way. "The person you’re waiting for is back."
Chen Shu spun around abruptly to see a police car roaring into the courtyard opposite them.
Under the veil of night, the commotion on this side hadn’t drawn anyone’s attention.
Chen Shu swallowed hard, walked over to the man lying on the ground, crouched, and retrieved the USB drive from his person to tuck it safely away.
"Tell your lady this: I, Chen Shu, owe her my life. If soday I make it out alive, I’ll repay her, even as a workhorse or an ox."
With that, he marched resolutely across the street, heading into the police station doors as if facing his fate.
Wu Yong quietly watched the scene unfold.
His subordinates swiftly dealt with the figures lying on the ground, making no sound.
Pulling out his phone, Wu Yong dialed a number.
After two rings, the call was answered.
"Rest assured, everything is going smoothly."
Wu Yong saw with his own eyes as Chen Shu’s figure disappeared into the glaring lights of the police station.
"Good work." A soft, cold, and ethereal voice ca from the other end, dreamlike enough to take the edge off the chill wind brushing past his ears.
Wu Yong lowered his eyes, an expression of utmost respect upon his face—even though the person on the other line could not see him.
