She gazed at her delicate hands.
These hands would set things right.
Yu Ruohuan opened her phone contacts, found a person labeled as Gu Yonghe, and sent over a bookmarked news link.
She silently counted the seconds in her heart, and at the tenth second, she chose to withdraw the ssage.
Soon, the other party replied with a confused emoji.
Yu Ruohuan opened the keyboard and skillfully typed—Sorry, sent it to the wrong person.
——Miss Yu, who did you mistake for? Let guess, the only one who could catch Miss Yu’s attention might just be my cousin.
Yu Ruohuan tilted her lips into a subtle smile. Dealing with smart people is always less exhausting.
——Your cousin is a distant, unattainable flower on a high peak, soone I could never aspire to reach.
——If even Miss Yu cannot aspire to reach him, no woman on earth could. I’d think you’re just being self-deprecating for effect.
Yu Ruohuan did not reply, lightly tapping her fingers on the table.
——My grandfather is hosting a birthday banquet during the New Year’s holiday. If Miss Yu doesn’t mind, you’re welco to join and show your support?
Yu Ruohuan raised an eyebrow.
——Mr. Gu is a literary giant. For soone of his stature, it would be natural for a junior like to offer my congratulations on his birthday.
Having achieved her goal, Yu Ruohuan felt rather pleased.
At that mont, the doorbell abruptly rang, piercing and unpleasant.
Yu Ruohuan furrowed her brows irritably. Jiao Long—what was going on? Hadn’t she made it clear not to disturb her during rest regardless of the issue?
Yu Ruohuan rose and walked slowly to open the door.
Standing outside were Jiao Long and Yun Long, along with the hotel manager who had personally handled her check-in upon arrival.
However, Yu Ruohuan’s gaze imdiately fell on the man behind Jiao Long, feeling he looked sowhat familiar.
She narrowed her eyes, speaking faintly, "What’s going on here?"
Jiao Long lowered his head, stepped forward, and whispered in her ear.
Yu Ruohuan’s pupils contracted sharply; a cold light flickered in her eyes for a fleeting mont before disappearing, replaced by the poised elegance of a distinguished young lady.
She turned her gaze back to the man—this ti, her eyes carried a subtle but distinct pressure, lofty and commanding.
"Officer Xiang, it’s an honor to finally et you."
Xiang Chenyan nodded coolly, "Miss Yu."
"I’ve long heard of Officer Xiang’s reputation as ’Xiang Qingtian’ in Chunzhou, solving countless major cases. eting you today, your fa is indeed well-deserved."
The plan had been flawless, but even so, Xiang Chenyan had tracked her down so quickly. This man truly had skills.
"Miss Yu, your bodyguard is suspected of involvent in a poisoning case. Please co to the station for further investigation."
Yu Ruohuan’s smile grew warr at the corners of her lips, but her gaze grew deeper and darker—a chilling contrast that inexplicably sent shivers down one’s spine.
"Officer Xiang, surely you must be mistaken. My guard—how could he possibly be involved in a poisoning case?"
"Whether it’s a mistake or not will be clarified through our investigation," Xiang Chenyan replied immovably.
Yu Ruohuan’s face darkened, her tone sharp: "Xiang Chenyan, don’t make the mistake of rejecting amicable offers only to demand harsher consequences."
Few dared to pursue an investigation knowing her status, especially soone bearing the surna Xiang attempting to probe into her affairs—wanting to take her people away? It was bold to the point of recklessness.
The manager was overwheld, his head spinning. All he wanted was to shrink into the background unnoticed.
Xiang Chenyan remained stern, his expression unwavering: "Is Miss Yu planning to shield the suspect?"
Yu Ruohuan let out a light, scoffing laugh. She had never encountered soone so unreasonable.
She picked up her phone and, in front of Xiang Chenyan, dialed a number.
The person on the other end answered promptly, their tone respectful with a hint of cautious reverence: "Miss Yu, how may I be of service?"
"Uncle Xiang, Xiang Chenyan claims my guard is involved in a poisoning case and wants to take him away for investigation. Isn’t that absurd?"
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line: "Please hand the phone to him."
Yu Ruohuan extended the phone toward Xiang Chenyan, raising an eyebrow in a silent gesture for him to take it.
Xiang Chenyan accepted the phone and stepped aside.
"Father."
"Chenyan, what do you think you’re doing?"
"I’m doing what I ought to do."
"What you ought to do is leave imdiately, avoid causing trouble for Miss Yu, and act as if nothing ever happened."
Xiang Chenyan’s lips curled into a mocking smirk: "You’re still aware of what it ans to uphold a policeman’s duty?"
The older man sighed, his tone heavy: "I know you’re a good, upright, kind-hearted child, but the world is far more complicated than you imagine. Even if I must plead with you, let this matter slide."
Xiang Chenyan paused for a mont before responding: "My compromise isn’t because I agree with your perspective. I will protect justice in my own way."
He ended the call and returned the phone to Yu Ruohuan.
Yu Ruohuan didn’t extend her hand to take it.
Jiao Long stepped forward and took the phone instead.
