"Is it too much to ask for another reward?"
The woman’s tone carried a hint of cocky entitlent, which Yu Fuce found rather gratifying.
"As long as your good news satisfies , even ten rewards wouldn’t be a problem."
"I heard from soone in the industry that Snowmoon is selecting their Hua Country ambassador. You know how many celebrities back ho are eyeing this top luxury brand. If I can land the endorsent, I’ll officially be A-list. No one will be able to badmouth behind my back anymore. Ace, okay? Help out, please?"
Yu Fuce curled his lips into a smirk. "It’s just an endorsent for a brand, isn’t it? A small matter."
"Then it’s settled! Whoever backs out is a puppy!"
Yu Fuce leaned against the floor-to-ceiling window, looking outside with an air of idle indifference.
"Alright, tell what the good news is. Since you’re asking for so many rewards, I want to see if it’s worth it."
The woman on the phone coughed lightly, speaking in a voice that was both deliberate and cautiously serious. "Ace, I know it’s been years since you and your wife got married without having any children. It’s always been your regret. You don’t say it outright, but I’ve noticed. However, you don’t have to regret anymore because I..."
She paused on purpose at this point.
"...am pregnant."
Yu Fuce, who had been standing lazily, instinctively straightened up at the sound of those three words.
"What did you say?"
The woman thought he was overwheld with joy and repeated excitedly, "Ace, you’re going to be a dad! Aren’t you happy? The reward I asked for isn’t too much, right?"
The man curled his lips into a smile, but the look in his eyes was chillingly sinister.
"Very good."
"When are you coming back? I want to see you imdiately."
"Wait a little longer. I’ll return after I finish up with things in Siland."
With that, he decisively hung up the phone.
Yu Fuce grew angrier the more he thought about it. Suddenly, he threw his phone with force. "Bitch!"
At that mont, soone knocked on the door.
Yu Fuce took a deep breath before walking over to open it.
Outside the door stood a short man with a shrewd-looking face, flanked by two burly n who both had a nacing air about them.
Yu Fuce frowned and looked displeased at the short man before him. "What do you want?"
The man pulled out a thick ledger from his coat. "Mr. Yu, the rules of Huacai City are that debts must be settled weekly. It’s been a week now; please settle your account with us."
"What’s the rush? Do you think I’d default on paynt?"
"Sorry, but those are Huacai City’s rules. No exceptions for anyone. Mr. Yu, it’s better if you take a look at this ledger first."
Yu Fuce took the ledger and grew visibly angrier as he flipped through it. "When did I ever owe this much money? You’re scamming !"
The man gave a smirk devoid of warmth. "Looks like Mr. Yu intends to weasel out of his debt. We have surveillance caras everywhere here, not to ntion your handwritten signature and fingerprints on the ledger. Even if you take this to the police, you won’t be able to get away."
Yu Fuce’s face turned pale. He wasn’t stupid; he vaguely realized these people had set him up. They had exploited his high-spirited gambling state, using alcohol and won to lure him into signing off on this enormous gambling debt, with interest piling on until it ballooned into an astronomical sum.
What was even more terrifying was that this was Siland. No matter how powerful the Yu family’s influence was, it couldn’t reach here.
He gritted his teeth and said, "I want to see your boss."
The man smiled and replied, "Sorry, Mr. Yu. Our boss is very busy and doesn’t et with irrelevant people."
"Do you know who I am? If I tell you, it’ll scare you to death. Even your boss would have to show respect."
The man’s smile carried a hint of disdain. "Even if princes and princesses from royal families around the world owe gambling debts here, they have to repay them according to the rules. You...really don’t amount to much."
Beads of cold sweat started to form on Yu Fuce’s forehead. "This is an impossible amount of money to pay back. You’re being unreasonable."
The man sized him up and down, his eyes glinting with a strange light. "You may not be able to repay it, but you still have family."
