At this point in the ga's lifecycle, many fast-progressing veteran players had already entered Year Two of their farms.
The challenging desert map content had long been unlocked for experienced players.
But most people were completely stuck on aningful progression there.
The reason was brutally simple: the notorious Skull Cavern was devastatingly difficult. Monsters were ridiculously strong and aggressive.
With no established bomb-mining ta strategy yet discovered by the community, players had to honestly fight every single monster, painstakingly mine rocks one by one, and desperately search for rare ladders and mineshafts to descend.

As for monster drops, providing them, the statistical chance was basically nonexistent and laughable.
