Now reading: C 31: The Construct from Echoes of Oblivion, a System novel by Yangretro.

Three weeks after the Forbidden Peak.

The fragnt-bearers had fallen into a rhythm. Training. Planning. Waiting.

Dorian's birds had been restless for days. Circling. Refusing to land.

"Sothing's coming," Dorian said, his voice tight. "The birds won't tell what. They're too scared."

"Scared of what?" Seris asked.

"Scared of sothing that doesn't sll like Chaos or Order. Sothing... older."

[「ECHO」: Unknown energy signature approaching. Classification: neither Order nor Chaos. Recomnd caution.]

Varyan stood. "Everyone to the chapel. Now."

They moved. The chapel's old Order wards were weak, but they were sothing.

The thing arrived at midnight.

It didn't walk through the gates. It didn't climb the walls. It simply appeared in the courtyard—a figure of silver light, vaguely human-shaped, but wrong. Its edges flickered. Its face was smooth, featureless.

Not an Architect. Sothing lesser. A construct. A tool.

The fragnt-bearers watched from the chapel windows.

"It's not attacking," Tobin whispered.

"It's waiting," Seris said. "It wants sothing."

Varyan stepped out alone. Oblivion's Edge drawn.

The figure turned its featureless face toward him.

"Varyan of House Roverc."

Its voice was not a voice. It was resonance. Vibration. Words that planted themselves directly in his mind.

"What are you?"

"A construct. A tool. The Architects do not speak directly to mortals. They send us."

"What do the Architects want?"

"To observe. The fragnt experint has continued for three thousand years. You are... an anomaly. The variable they did not account for."

"That's not an answer."

"It is the only answer you are worthy of."

Varyan tightened his grip on the sword.

"Tell the Architects to leave us alone."

The construct tilted its head. Almost amused.

"They have no interest in you. Not personally. You are a data point. A curiosity. Like an ant that learns to count. Interesting, but not worth direct intervention."

"Then why send you?"

"To remind you that you are being watched. To remind you that the fragnts were created for a purpose. And to remind you that when the Architects decide the experint is over—" The construct's form flickered. "—you will not be consulted."

It vanished.

No flash. No sound. Just... gone.

[「ECHO」: Construct departed. No hostile action taken. Architects' stance: passive observation.]

Varyan stood in the empty courtyard, breathing hard.

"They don't care about us," he said quietly. "We're ants to them. Data points."

"Then we beco data points they can't ignore," Seris said, stepping beside him.

"That's the plan."

Author's Note – Chapter 31

The construct.

Not an Architect. A tool. A puppet.

The Architects are cosmic beings who created the fragnts as an experint three thousand years ago. They don't negotiate with mortals. They don't threaten. They observe.

To them, Varyan is an "ant that learned to count." Interesting. Mildly curious. Not worth direct intervention.

That will change eventually. But not yet.

Also: House Umbra ntioned in the next chapter. They detected this construct's energy imdiately. They notice everything.

Also if you are enjoying the novel please leave a review, comnt guys, thank you.
