Returning to school, Mabel first went back to her dormitory. Alice and Evelyn asked her why she didn't co back to sleep last night, and she could only vaguely say she went ho to sleep.
If she really said she spent the night watching TV hand in hand with Kyle, no one would believe it! Besides, she didn't want anyone to know about her relationship with Kyle.
Several days passed without Kyle coming to find her again, and Mabel thought that was for the best. Perhaps Kyle had already lost interest in her.
In the evening, Mabel went to work at the cake shop. Following the manager's instructions, she delivered 50 gift sets to the designated banquet hall of the Tavern. However, when she saw the people inside, she was suddenly stunned.
At that mont, five tables of people were sitting in the private room. At the front, on a low platform, her mother Evelina and her brother Cecil were standing with microphones, talking about the family's double blessing: Evelina's promotion from the logistics departnt of the bank to deputy director of the credit departnt, and Cecil's hiring by a big company.
Evelina had been in the bank's logistics departnt and had thought she would just work there until retirent. Who could have known that a short while ago, she was suddenly transferred to the city branch's credit planning departnt as deputy director. This transfer order let Evelina show off in front of her colleagues, but she was curious about the reason for her sudden promotion. When she inquired, the branch manager said it was a sudden order from above and asked if she knew soone with a significant background.
She didn't know anyone with a big background. If anything, it would only be the Quinn Family's main house wanting to help them. Especially after her son was suddenly hired by a big company, Evelina was more convinced of this idea.
However, when she invited people from the main house to today's celebration banquet, they refused directly.
At this mont, Evelina's face fell when she saw her daughter's sudden appearance. The ones she wanted to see didn't co; the one she didn't want to see did. Putting down the microphone, she briskly walked over to her daughter, "Why are you here?"
"I ca to deliver the gift sets, 50 of them." Mabel's eyes dimd as she placed the two large bags of gift sets she was holding on a nearby low cabinet. This luxurious banquet hall's private room seed glaring in her eyes.
"Mabel." Cecil also walked over, seemingly with good intentions, saying, "Today, Soren and his girlfriend Miss Grant are also here. You know, Miss Grant is a cousin from the main house. Mom and I thought it would be awkward for you, so we didn't invite you. Don't mind it."
Mabel's heart grew cold. To this family, she seed more like an outsider.
Her gaze turned toward the young couple standing not far away. The young man had fair skin and chiseled features that made his already delicate and well-defined facial features even more pronounced, with a faint hint of arrogance and coldness between his brows. That was Soren, her forr childhood friend. Next to him stood Lyra Grant, attractive with a refined makeup, giving off an aura of a well-read and noble lady, but Mabel was very aware of the other side of her.
Years ago, after she lost a year's worth of her novel manuscript and couldn't find it anywhere, Lyra Grant published a novel shortly after that was praised by the school. Many newspapers and magazines ca for interviews, and for a ti, Lyra Grant beca a celebrity at the school.
