After boarding the bus, Mabel Quinn gazed at the scenery outside the window. She wasn't bothered by Lyra Grant's provocation; what she truly cared about were her mother and brother. But today's incident only reminded her once again that to her mother, she ant nothing at all.
Suddenly, she felt an impulse to find soone to talk to. However, as she looked at the nas in her contacts, she didn't know whom to reach out to. Alice? Or Evelyn? Or... her gaze inadvertently fell on the character "Kyle" in her phone book.
Kyle Kinston... This man had even once said that as long as she promised, he could remain loyal to her for life, never betraying her.
Could there truly be soone like that?
Imdiately, a self-deprecating smile appeared on her face. Mabel Quinn, what are you thinking! For soone like Kyle Kinston, he probably just said it casually; do you really take it seriously?
She wanted to return the phone to the previous nu, but accidentally pressed the call button.
Mabel Quinn was dumbfounded and scrambled to press the end button. But before she could, the call was already connected, and Kyle Kinston's voice ca through the phone, "Mabel Quinn?"
"It's... it's ," she stamred.
"It's rare for you to initiate a call," he said. "What's up?"
"Noth... nothing much, I just pressed the wrong button by accident, so I won't disturb your rest," she quickly said, wanting to hang up.
But Kyle Kinston replied, "I'm not resting right now."
Eh? Mabel Quinn was stunned. The way he said that made her embarrassed to hang up just like that.
Of course, Mabel Quinn didn't know at this mont that in front of Kyle Kinston, there was a eting going on attended by so prominent business figures from J City. Yet, Kyle Kinston had put them aside to take this call.
This left all the prominent figures staring at each other, wondering who made this call that prompted the mighty President Kyle to answer in the middle of the eting.
Just then, Kyle Kinston slightly furrowed his brow and asked Mabel Quinn on the other end of the line, "What's wrong with your voice?"
"Voice?" She hadn't even noticed that her voice carried a slight choked tone, and her nasality was more pronounced than usual.
"Have you been crying?" he asked.
"No, I haven't cried," she quickly replied. Even though she indeed felt an urge to cry, she knew that crying wouldn't solve any problems.
"At this ti of day, you should be working, right? How co you can call now?" he asked again.
Mabel Quinn broke out in a cold sweat. He actually knew she should be at her part-ti job at the cake shop now. She seriously wondered if he also knew her school schedule by heart.
"Sothing happened, so the manager let leave early," she said, and then, hearing the announcent of the upcoming bus stop, she hurriedly added, "I missed my stop. I need to get off. I'll talk to you later!" With that, she hastily ended the call, put away her phone, and quickly got off the bus once it stopped and opened the door.
On the other end of the call, Kyle Kinston looked at his phone with so amusent. It had been years since anyone dared to hang up on him. To think that this little girl would do it so decisively was quite surprising indeed!
