"Kyle..." Mabel Quinn’s face grew redder and redder, "Um... you’ve only had a little bit of the cake, maybe have so more..."
Before she could finish her sentence, he kissed her again.
"Mabel, do you know what I was thinking about while waiting for you at the square today?" His voice was like a violin playing in the night wind, cold and lonely.
"I’m sorry... I didn’t know I would be delayed for so long." She said, slightly out of breath.
His lips kissed each of her fingers, "I was thinking, when exactly will you co? How much longer do I have to wait? The taste of waiting for soone is surprisingly lonely... Also." His voice suddenly paused, his face directly facing hers, "The things you told , are they really true? Were you really working overti at your office, so you were delayed?"
His voice beca even more gentle, as if it was the most alluring temptation, enticing her to reveal the truth.
"I was at..." she murmured, suddenly her body shuddered, her eyes widened looking at him.
The smile on the corners of his lips only grew, smiling so tenderly, yet in his eyes, there was an endless abyss of darkness, "Where were you? Overti? Or with Daniel Harris?"
Mabel shivered, the infatuation in her eyes slowly receding, "How did you..."
"How did I know, right?" he said, his fingers lightly stroking her wide almond eyes, "I didn’t investigate you, but there are always people who co to tell . Didn’t you say Isaac Zimrman was in your past? You wouldn’t care about Daniel Harris anymore, so why, when I’m waiting for you, are you with Daniel?"
Mabel opened her mouth, not knowing how to answer him.
But her silence, to him, was as if she was admitting being with Daniel Harris, and his eyes beca darker, "Is it so hard for you to let go of Daniel Harris?"
"No! I indeed wasn’t at the Corporation tonight, but I wasn’t with Dan..." Her words were cut off by his lips again.
"Kyle, listen to , things are not what you think, I just..."
"Explain how you were with him? How he held you? How you were in his arms?" Kyle Kinston said.
Mabel struggled hard, using almost all her strength to push him away.
"Slap!" A crisp sound of a slap echoed in the dim room, and suddenly, the air felt as if it had beco still.
A sharp pain in her palm made Mabel feel it was so unreal. She only wanted to push him away, but accidentally slapped him instead.
And he turned his face to one side, as if in slow motion, slowly turning back to look down at her, those eyes shrouded in mist, making it impossible to see his emotions, but his lips curved, smiling so charmingly, "Good, very good, in this world, only you can keep slapping like this."
Mabel’s body went rigid. In the past, she slapped him out of fear, out of terror, to keep him away. But this ti, it was unintentional, she just wanted to push him away to make him stop for a mont, not to really hit him.
The hand that slapped him beca unbearably hot, and her lips, unbearably dry.
"Do you think I’ll hurt you? Or have you lost interest in , your heart caring more for soone else?" he asked softly.
No, it’s not like that! She shook her head vigorously, only hearing him murmur, "So beautiful mories, they’re never real."
The low voice carried a rare sobbing tone.
Mabel’s nose stung, Kyle... today was his birthday, yet she gave him such awful mories. Just as he was leaving her, about to get off the bed, Mabel suddenly sat up and hugged Kyle Kinston tightly.
"There’s no one else in my heart, I don’t think you’ll hurt , and I haven’t lost interest in you at all! Kyle, all I think about is you, no one else!" Her face pressed against his back, speaking urgently, afraid if she didn’t say it, there’d be no more chance to clear things up.
