"Why are you hiring a boyfriend?" Mabel asked in surprise.

Alice felt like her mom was afraid she’d miss out on Dorian Howards and remain unmarried for life. If there was a day Dorian didn’t show up at her ho, her mom would surely nag about it for a while.
"What’s so bad about Dorian Howards that makes you disdain him so much?" Mabel was speechless. In her view, a man like Dorian would be fought over by won, yet her friend acted as if she desperately wanted to cut ties.
"It’s not that he’s bad, he’s too good," Alice said. "He’s like a perfect piece of art. Would you want to see a perfect piece of art have a flaw?"
Mabel replied, "So do you think that by getting back together with him, you’d be adding a flaw?"
Alice lowered her head, hiding the hint of sadness in her eyes, and laughed it off, "Exactly, wouldn’t it be frustrating to see a perfect thing with a flaw on it?"
