"I knew you were an unlucky person. People would just dump you as soon as they say so, and it’s only been a few months! So, after all, a jackdaw remains a jackdaw; it can’t turn into a phoenix." Evelina mocked sarcastically.
Mabel Quinn was not unfamiliar with Evelina’s schadenfreude, and she even expected it. She simply said coldly, "Whether I’m a jackdaw or a phoenix, it’s not up to you to comnt. You never truly treated as a daughter, and from now on, I won’t call you mother anymore. I think it’s best if you don’t co looking for again; we have no relationship anymore."
In the past, she always hoped that maybe one day her mother would feel that mother-daughter bond and truly treat her well. But after knowing the whole truth, her heart suddenly cald, and she could finally and completely sever ties with the woman she had called ’mother’ for 23 years.
Evelina panicked when she heard this. "What are you saying? I raised you for so many years, supported your education, fed, and sheltered you. Now that you’re grown up and have strong wings, you’re going to kick away? If I had known you’d be like this, I should have thrown you out the mont your dad brought you ho."
"You’re right, you did raise for 23 years. From now on, I will transfer a basic living expense to your account each month as repaynt for the money you spent raising . As for eting up, that’s unnecessary." For her now, coming up with that amount of money ans skimping and saving every month.
But how could Evelina be satisfied with that? She was neck-deep in debt and had even misappropriated bank funds; no basic living expense could fill that hole. "Why don’t you just give 20 million, and then I won’t co looking for you again? Consider it compensation for raising you all these years."
Hearing this, Mabel Quinn really wanted to laugh. In the end, the only topic left between her and her adoptive mother was "money."
"I don’t even have 2,000 on right now, and you expect to give you 20 million? You’re overestimating ." Mabel Quinn said coldly.
Evelina said, "You stayed with Kyle Kinston for over half a year, and I’m sure the breakup fee he gave you was more than that number. I’m only asking for 20 million; that’s already a bargain for you."
"There’s no breakup fee. I brought as much as I ca into the Kinston residence with when I left. If you insist that because you raised I owe you 20 million, then you might as well take to court and let the law determine how much I owe." Mabel Quinn said, looking at Evelina with eyes devoid of any trace of emotion.
Seeing her adopted daughter’s indifferent gaze, Evelina suddenly felt a surge of fear, as if the person in front of her was looking down from a great height, and she was nothing but an ant in those eyes.
What was happening to her? Evelina suppressed the fear in her heart. This person in front of her was nothing but a worthless orphan whom no one wanted, soone she herself had raised. This daughter was once hers to beat and berate.
Evelina raised her hand, intending to slap Mabel Quinn’s face to regain the upper hand.
But her hand was intercepted in mid-air by Mabel Quinn, who skillfully applied force, making Evelina cry out in pain.
