Alice Conley’s first impression of Daxton was actually quite good. They ordered so food and drinks, and while Alice was considering how to tell him that she wasn’t really interested in this matchmaking, Daxton opened his mouth first, "Miss Conley, I’m sorry for asking you out this ti, but I still want to say that I already have soone I love. This matchmaking is just to ease my parents’ concern. If it affects your mood, I can leave now and settle the bill at the front desk."
Alice looked at him in surprise, suddenly feeling that this was all too coincidental.
Her silence made Daxton think she was angry, so he was about to get up and leave. Alice hurriedly said, "Mr. Daxton, you don’t need to leave, we can just sit down and have a al together. I’m actually not interested in this matchmaking either, just... wanting to ease my parents’ minds."
A flash of surprise crossed Daxton’s face.
Alice smiled and said, "Quite the coincidence, isn’t it."
"Yes, quite the coincidence." Daxton smiled, and both of them finally relaxed.
During the al, Alice asked, "Since you have soone you love, why not tell your parents? Why co to a matchmaking?"
"My parents know, but... they don’t approve. Even though that person is very good to and loves very much, my parents don’t want to be with them," Daxton said.
Alice fell silent. Everyone has their own difficulties, and Daxton’s situation made her feel a sense of closeness.
"What about you, do you have soone?" he asked.
Alice’s eyes dimd, "I did, but for so reasons, we separated. My parents were anxious, so this matchmaking happened."
"If you ever need to be a shield in the future, I’m always willing," Daxton said, smiling at Alice.
Alice also smiled, "Alright, thanks, I’m also happy to be your shield!"
They exchanged a smile, then raised their glasses to drink together.
But this scene was noticed by soone who had just parked outside and got out of their car.
Dorian Howards stood with his back straight, his gaze fixed intently on the scene not far away through the glass. That woman, after rejecting him like that, was now smiling and toasting with another man.
Did he really an nothing to her?
He told himself not to be pained over her anymore, yet the stifling ache in his chest made every breath feel painful.
"Hey, Dorian, isn’t that Alice Conley, the one you were pursuing before?" Beside him, Francine Howards stepped out of the passenger seat and walked to Dorian’s side. They were also here for a al today, but they had booked a private room on the second floor. They hadn’t expected to see Alice Conley here today.
"Look at Alice Conley, she doesn’t seem that impressive at all, yet she has quite a way with n, doesn’t she? Just separated from you, and she’s already with soone else. No wonder Aunt doesn’t like her. A woman from such a small family can’t possibly be a match for you, Dorian." Francine said with a light laugh.
Dorian only tightly pressed his thin lips together, his handso face filled with a deep gloom.
"Dorian, you’re not thinking of going over to say hello to Alice Conley, are you? Aunt is still waiting in the private room," Francine said.
