In the evening, Mabel was in the apartnt complex, looking at the replica badge. It was truly unexpected; the badge she had seen since childhood turned out to be Clover’s badge.
But... she wasn’t Clover’s child, so where were her real parents? At that ti, did they intentionally abandon her, or was it due to so accident?
The badge in her hand seed to grow heavier.
The phone rang suddenly, and Mabel thought it was Kyle calling, but when she saw the caller ID, it was Caleb’s call.
When she answered, she heard Caleb say, "Miss Mabel, where are you now?"
"I’m at the apartnt complex," Mabel replied.
"I’ll have the driver pick you up now. Elder Kinston is injured and has just been escorted back," Caleb said.
Mabel was shocked, nearly dropping her phone, "What, Kyle is injured?"
Then, from Caleb’s account, Mabel learned that at the border, due to the collapse of trade negotiations, chaos erupted, and soone attempted to assassinate Kyle.
"Fortunately, Elder Kinston only took a gunshot wound to the shoulder, the bullet has been extracted, there’s no life-threatening danger, he’s just unconscious due to the surgery," Caleb said.
When Mabel arrived at Kyle’s hospital room, she saw his figure lying quietly on the bed in the spacious room.
His complexion was so pale it was almost colorless, even his lips showed a hint of gray. His shoulder was wrapped in layers of bandages. At this mont, he looked so fragile.
Mabel felt as if her heart was about to twist in knots. The idea of assassination was sothing she always thought was just a movie plot, never imagining it could be so close to her.
Especially when it happened to the man she loved the most.
"When will he wake up?" Mabel asked.
"Probably in a few more hours," Caleb said, "Actually, Elder Kinston initially had not tell you about this, but... I took the liberty. I thought maybe with you by his side, he’d feel better."
At this point, Caleb felt anxious inside, unsure how Elder Kinston would reprimand him upon waking.
"Thank you," Mabel said. Rather than knowing nothing and being kept in the dark, she’d much prefer to know. Despite worrying, feeling anxious, and being upset, she could be with him to help recover, leaving her more at ease.
Kyle’s gunshot injury didn’t get reported. Mabel called Kay, simply saying she had personal matters and needed a few days off.
But when she spoke with Alice on the phone, she told the truth about Kyle’s injury, after all, Alice wasn’t an outsider, and Dorian Howards was also Kyle’s friend.
Alice was also taken aback, "Which hospital is he in? Dorian and I will co over to see him."
"No, no!" Mabel quickly said, "This hasn’t been made public yet, if you guys co, it might attract attention. Besides, he’s just out of surgery and hasn’t woken up. Let’s wait until he wakes up."
