The atmosphere inside the police car was heavy. To avoid being tailed, Hunter hadn’t even driven his own car.

The shape, color, and even the license plate number of that car had long been morized by so people, and it wasn’t a particular secret.

As long as a few people were arranged to watch outside the police station, they would definitely see his car coming and going.

To prevent this from being known and discovered by Lance, he had specially changed into a formal police uniform in the ground-floor utility room and put on a wide-brimd police cap—

When officers reached the rank of captain and above, the force no longer had so many strict requirents for their attire.

And they could find many reasons not to wear a police uniform, such as needing to et with an informant, to gather intelligence, to look for clues, to…

In short, they had many ways to reasonably justify not wearing a uniform. Coupled with the freedom of dress advocated by the Federation, this had basically beco an unwritten rule.

As long as your rank was high enough, no one would care whether you wore a uniform or not.

Hunter, wearing his police uniform and a wide-brimd cap with the brim pulled down low, strode over, opened the driver’s door, and got in directly. He was driving today.

He didn’t tell the others in the car where they were going or what they were doing. But because he was the chief and the others were his trusted subordinates, they had no other thoughts besides obedience.

The police car left the parking lot without alerting anyone. Hunter looked at the sneaky people outside the police station through the rearview mirror, a cold smile on his lips.

Then he started driving in circles around the city. He wasn’t sure if Lance’s n were watching him. He had to ensure the safety of this operation.

After shaking them for half an hour and finding that no one was indeed following him, he drove straight out of the city.

According to the young man’s statent, his evidence was hidden in the suburbs. He knew the location.

From the city to the suburbs, the atmosphere in the car was heavy. Apart from the sound of people using matches or lighters, there was no extra conversation.

Oh, and the sound of the wind.

The car soon arrived at the very edge of the city and stopped at an old, abandoned train station.

As Golden Port continued to develop, the railway lines were also constantly being adjusted. After a more suitable route was found, this route and this station were completely abandoned.

For the first ten years or so, so people still stopped here. When the new train station was directly connected to the docks, this place was completely abandoned.

The abandoned train station didn’t look very large, but at this mont it gave people a sowhat eerie feeling.

The empty platform was covered with all kinds of plants, and the moss-covered glass on the canopy also blocked so of the sunlight.

There were only so plants in the places on the ground where the sunlight lingered.

And those places where there was no sunlight, completely shaded, were lifeless.

The rusty tracks and steel-structured station gave people an indescribable feeling. Standing here would give one an inexplicable sense of temporal dislocation.

The young man had said that he had hidden the things in a cookie tin, and that the box was in a drawer in the station’s duty office.

Only then did Hunter tell the people around him the purpose of their operation this ti. “We need to find the duty office. There’s a box inside.”

“After you find it, don’t open it. Give it directly to . This is our mission this ti.”

He looked at the people around him. “You are all the people I trust the most. After this is over, I will give you a better future!”

They all nodded. Just like when he had sided with Charlie, a bright future was also their motivation for siding with Hunter.

The group imdiately dispersed. Hunter didn’t know which room was the duty office. They could only search room by room. But fortunately, there weren’t too many rooms. It shouldn’t take long; they should be able to finish searching everything before noon.

After they entered the station, two young n crawled out of a hard-to-find concrete pipe.

“We don’t have much ti.”

One of them was a little nervous. In fact, he didn’t need to be nervous at all. There were other people around. Even if Hunter rushed out at this mont, they had nothing to fear.

But sotis, being prepared doesn’t an not being nervous, just like a boy and girl’s first ti.

They were clearly prepared, but still nervous. They had absolutely no need to be nervous, yet they would be.

A slightly thin guy walked to the car. He crawled under it, tinkered for a while, and then crawled out again.

After confirming there were no problems, the two found a place to hide.

The station wasn’t large, with only about twenty rooms in total. Soon, Hunter and his n found an iron box in a room with a microphone.

The box wasn’t very heavy, and when shaken, sothing did indeed rattle inside. It didn’t look like there was a bomb.

And it wasn’t a very thick cookie tin. It didn’t look very big, at most it could hold a notebook.

Hunter was very careful. He stood far away and found sothing to smash the box open. If it was indeed a notebook inside, then even smashing it with a stone wouldn’t cause any problems.

The box was smashed open, and a notebook did indeed appear inside. Hunter walked over and picked up the notebook, but he didn’t look at it imdiately because there were still so people around him.

He couldn’t be sure if these people were Lance’s n. He needed a more private environnt right now.

When people seek a private space in an unfamiliar environnt, the most likely choice is an environnt that can give them a sense of security, not a room in this gloomy old station.

He returned to the side of the car with his subordinates, but he didn’t let the others get in. Instead, he had them stand guard around the area.

He wanted to see what was written in this notebook in the car.

After confirming that the others were dispersed, he opened the first page with great anticipation, and then froze.

A clown was drawn on it, and a sentence was written: “Fuck you.” His mind went blank for a mont.

He subconsciously flipped backwards. It was all fucking blank. This wasn’t a fucking ledger at all, this was a fucking trap!

In an instant, his head was covered in sweat. He looked up at the wilderness around him, and every place seed to be hiding sothing that terrified him!

He had been lured out. His heart began to pump blood crazily. He felt flushed and thirsty. Panic dominated his emotions!

He didn’t even have ti to shout for his subordinates to get in the car. In that very short mont, he even thought that leaving these subordinates here might help him block any pursuers!

Without any hesitation, he turned the key, started the car, and then stomped on the gas pedal…

The violent explosion instantly made the quiet station “lively.” The shockwave from the explosion beca the last straw that broke the old glass.

Large chunks of glass continuously fell from the station’s canopy. They landed on so plants, but so also landed on the open ground and then shattered.

The miniature world inside the station was instantly destroyed, but these fallen pieces of glass would ultimately allow more sunlight to shine into the station, nurturing more life!

And the few police officers standing guard around the car were directly knocked down by the shockwave. They fell to the ground, looking back in disbelief at the wreckage of the car.

There was no fire, just so smoke. Hunter had completely disappeared!

Several cars suddenly drove out from the nearby grass. So people leaned out of the cars, raised their submachine guns, and pulled the triggers on the police officers who were scattered on the ground and had not been killed by the blast.

After circling the scene, the few cars drove off, leaving only a wrecked car fra, a few bodies, and a ground full of shell casings!

The news of Hunter’s death quickly reached Lance’s ears. He pursed his lips. “Got it. Let’s leave it at that.”

He hung up the phone, but quickly picked it up again. This ti, he was calling Bruce. “Co to my office.”

About five minutes later, Bruce appeared outside Lance’s office.

“You’re here quickly. Want sothing to drink?” Lance asked.

In fact, Bruce hadn’t gone ho these past few days. He was staying in a hotel not far away. If he went back, he would be unable to stop thinking about which part of the plan they were at, and whether any accidents would happen.

So he found a place to stay near Lance’s office. The call Lance just made was to the hotel front desk.

“No, thank you. I had a drink before I ca.”

His eyes held so longing, so anticipation, and also so trepidation. “…How did it go?”

Lance looked at him and spread his hands naturally. “He had an accident. The car exploded. If the dical examiner’s skills are very good, there’s a high probability they can find a part of him. As for whether they can piece together a complete part, I’m not sure.”

When Bruce heard this, he seed not to have reacted. After a long while, his eyes refocused. “I thought… you guys would have a gunfight, and after a fierce exchange of fire, you would eventually kill him.”

Lance nodded noncommittally. “The others did die from close-range shooting, but Hunter was a special case.”

Bruce knew so more details. “And his family…”

Lance smiled slightly. “They have no more value.”

He paused for a mont. “Alright, let’s not talk about these boring things. Do you have any more formal-looking clothes?”

Bruce was a little confused. “I do…”

“Go change!”

He didn’t even have the courage to ask why. He ran out of the office and then, twenty minutes later, appeared in front of Lance in a very formal suit.

Lance looked him up and down, walked up to him, and straightened his sowhat untidy tie. “I’m taking you to see the mayor.”

“Since Hunter is gone, we should discuss the matter of the new chief.”

Although he had already had a premonition, when he really heard these words, Bruce suddenly had an urge to kowtow to Lance!

He clenched his fists, not even realizing that his voice was trembling so much!

“Okay!”
