Blood seeped into the water, like a mass of ever-spreading black mist. Ewen had no strength left to read the effects on the card; after a brief glance, he simply tossed it towards Bai Ou.
Scarlet arms caught the card, and Bai Ou’s voice clearly penetrated through the murky seawater.
"Event Card: Tranquil Sea!"
Bai Ou’s arms flailed wildly, shrieking with excitent, "Congratulations to everyone! You survived this round!"
He acted as if sincerely glad for the few, frantically waving his arms like weaving so strange dance. If not just a head, Bai Ou would definitely be singing and dancing at this mont.
At the mont his words fell, Dawn burst through the waves, the tracks seeming to float above the ocean. The heavily ard train defied physical laws, miraculously speeding over the sea, and all the doors opened simultaneously, pouring out accumulated water, leaving not a single snake behind.
The group collapsed on the ground in disarray; after consecutive events, none of them had any strength left. Palr collapsed in agony, then arched his body, retching violently.
Palr had grown weary of the ocean, fingers reaching into his throat, repeatedly pressing down, then vomiting abundantly.
Aimou got up and ca beside Hart, her hands pressing on his chest, striving to perform CPR for him. With each compression, large amounts of seawater spurted from Hart’s mouth.
"Tranquil Sea?"
Bologue sat in the corner, the long sword resting in front of him, his face pale from the cold, looking as if he’d just erged from an ice cellar.
"I guess the flooded act should be over."
Canary shakily stood up; if Ewen had drawn the card a mont later, she would have truly drowned.
Having lost the protection of Extraordinary Power, they were now utterly ordinary people, and knife wounds could kill them, while drowning could easily engulf them.
Bologue looked at Canary in confusion, only to see Canary pointing outside the train window.
"It’s beautiful..."
Aimou followed the point, seeing that the train windows and doors were wide open, the overcast clouds and storms had vanished, replaced by a clear azure sky.
The entire sea was as transparent as large blue-green gems, the human eye could easily see several ters through the water, and schools of vividly colored fish swam among the coral beds, while sea birds flew alongside Dawn.
"Are we dreaming?"
Even Bologue couldn’t help but marvel at the scenery, as if Dawn had just plunged into the deep sea, crossing hundreds of kiloters, arriving at an entirely unfamiliar marine area.
But when Bologue cast his gaze on the chessboard, Dawn remained in the coastal area and continued along the predetermined route.
Cinderella tidied her skirt and walked forward to support Ewen, whose condition was far worse than the others. Relying on his temporarily unyielding nature, he had drunk an unknown amount of seawater.
Bending down to vomit, the expelled water still floated with fragnts of snake corpses, emitting a stench that made Ewen more nauseous, promptly vomiting again.
The body’s strange sensations and the regained fresh air made Ewen’s senses sowhat disordered. Cinderella promptly provided treatnt, to prevent him from falling deeper into his oxygen-deprived hallucinations.
"What were you just saying?"
Cinderella seized the opportunity to ask Ewen, as she had vaguely heard him speaking earlier while dragging him through the water. But as soon as he opened his mouth, seawater filled it, and besides the sound of bubbles, Cinderella heard nothing.
"Say... say what..."
Ewen’s head ached terribly, yet he forced his eyes open to look at Cinderella. In her, he saw a familiar shadow, although only for a fleeting mont, Ewen felt he hadn’t mistaken it, like a kite swaying in the wind, nearly grasping the broken kite string.
"Are you okay?"
Cinderella sensed Ewen’s condition was poor, just about to express concern, when Ewen suddenly jerked his head up, his eyes bloodshot.
An indescribable fear arose in Cinderella’s heart; suddenly she felt Ewen had beco very strange. Ewen stood up, his hands clutching Cinderella’s head, the girl struggling in terror, but unable to escape Ewen’s grip.
"Ewen... what’s wrong with you!"
Ewen didn’t speak, gradually getting closer to Cinderella, his murky gaze fixed on hers, seeming as though a force from his shell stretched out, clawing towards Cinderella.
"No, nothing."
Ewen suddenly released Cinderella, looking considerably more exhausted, silently picking up an overturned chair, sitting weakly on it, gazing blankly at the open train doors.
It was indeed a wonderful sight; Dawn skimd swiftly over the sea surface, stirring up pure white sprays, with fish leaping now and then from below the water, clear and blue stretching to the horizon, blurring the boundary between sky and sea.
Ewen seed to have figured sothing out, his gaze carrying a hint of bewildernt.
The carriage was silent, everyone choose to rest, even Bologue, who this ti rely clutched the dice in his palm without casting it.
Though they’d encountered no formidable enemies, the relentless disasters were wearing down the group’s energy, and before taking a break, they truly had no strength left for this mad adventure.
Cinderella looked at Ewen perplexedly; she felt sothing was off with Ewen but couldn’t pinpoint why, perhaps related to the recent aquatic ordeal.
Just as Cinderella stepped forward, ready to converse properly with Ewen, a lodious sound resonated from afar underwater, like deep chis resounding the city, leaving Cinderella standing dazed.
She had heard this sound in the dreamscape of the great library, Cinderella’s legs uncontrollably walked toward the train door, her gaze fixed afar, and the sea surface seed to boil, towering shadows rapidly erging beneath, until their bodies rose high, breaking through the sea.
Endless sprays flung into the sky, sunlight fell, refracting into brilliant rainbows.
Cinderella watched in captivated silence, while Ewen suddenly erupted in rage, nervously rising from his chair, rushing toward Cinderella frantically.
"Don’t look!"
Cinderella paid no heed to Ewen, accurately speaking; when the whale song started, her mind had already emptied.
It was a desire that belonged only to Cinderella, and now this wish was within reach.
Perhaps she herself had never imagined this wish would be fulfilled in such a manner.
The ethereal whale song neared the surface, weaving into a deafening grand opus.
