The Winding Fragnts was a special thod that allowed the Phantoms to locate their conditions.
Previously, Adam and Alexia had to go to Heaven Island to use this thod. They needed Queen Elisa's aura for it, but now, he had entered that space on his own without even realizing it.
However… instead of rejoicing at the good news, Adam's face looked lost, slowly turning paler.
"Are you sure about this?"
Adam nodded with a deep frown.
"Yes, when we did this with Alexia, everything was different. We saw them... Hundreds of fragnts, and each one had sothing to offer, but only one of them suited both of us. Now... Only darkness."
This was one of those tis when Silvana couldn't help at all. She knew no more about the Winding Fragnts than Adam did, and that feeling of helplessness annoyed her.
"Tsk." She clenched her teeth and sat down with a thud in front of him.
The cup of coffee trembled in her tight grip.
"Let's not jump to conclusions, but I don't like this. If we can't co up with anything, I'll call Beth, she should explain to us what the hell is going on here!"
For a mont, a heavy, oppressive silence hung in the room.
It went on like this until Silvana looked uncertainly at Adam, whose frown remained just as deep.
"Hey..." Silvana's voice rang out. "I have an idea, but it doesn't sound very good."
"Hmm?" Adam looked up. "What do you an?"
"What if it's not that sothing's wrong with the Winding Fragnts now, but that it's always been like this from the very beginning?"
Adam was confused.
"Agh? But Silvana, what's the point of that? When I did this with Alexia, there were no problems at all! We had thousands of options!"
"Really?" She gave him a sharp, piercing look.
Adam was caught off guard. He couldn't figure out what he'd overlooked.
"You only had one option. We decided on it because it was the only place in the whole world at that mont where you and Alexia could obtain the Ancient Frost and the Blood of God.
"We were wrong about the Blood of God, but still, you fulfilled one of your conditions there, just as promised by the chosen fragnt."
Adam blinked. "And?"
Silvana's gaze grew more serious.
"What if the Highest Bliss was originally the only condition the Winding Fragnts could have specified for you? In that case, everything falls into place. It wasn't the Winding Fragnts that adapted to the two of you. It was Alexia who adapted to your limited choices."
In an instant, Adam wanted to object, but froze the next mont.
He had nothing to say. Deep down, he already knew Silvana was right.
"But... If everything really is as you say, then that's bad, really bad."
She bit her lip until it bled.
She understood what Adam ant by that. If even the Winding Fragnts couldn't point the way to his conditions, then that could only an how difficult they were to obtain.
Adam touched his temples.
"It looks like we have no other choice. We need to contact Damien and Beth… They must know sothing."
Silvana blinked a few tis as she seed to realize sothing.
"The Queen! Maybe we need her help!"
For a mont, Adam stared at Silvana with wide eyes. She had found the answer, or… so he thought at first.
"No." He shook his head. "I hadn't noticed it, but if I did this without Queen Elisa, then there's no point in bothering her anymore. Perhaps her power changed , or perhaps it's all because of the Dark Energy…"
Silvana slowly returned to her seat as the joyful smile faded from her face.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
With a pensive look, she tapped on the table, trying to find at least so solution to their situation.
"Damn it! Why do problems always pop up when you least expect them!"
Shaking her head, Silvana headed for the sink. Her cup was already empty.
"I'll try to contact Beth. Tsk, they should have warned us that sothing like this could happen!"
Adam scratched the back of his head.
"What if even that doesn't help us?"
"Agh?"
"What if the Winding Fragnts are the only thod? If my two conditions remain hidden even from the fragnts, then we need to devise an alternative approach. Maybe if I go to the Dead Lands, I'll be able to find out more?"
Silvana raised her eyebrow sternly.
"You just got ho, and you're planning to leave again? What? Do you think you'll get answers in Izardo or sowhere else?"
Adam spread his arms wide.
"Who knows? Maybe there, or maybe sowhere else. Although..." He leaned on his hand, leaning forward. "You're right. First, we need to contact Damien and Beth. They must know sothing."
DING!
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Adam and Silvana exchanged glances. They definitely weren't expecting guests today.
At first, Adam smirked. "Hah, could that arrogant bastard have been eavesdropping on us again?"
He assud it was Damien, but soon… their faces froze. They both realized that if it had been Damien, he would have been on their balcony and walked into their kitchen as if it were his own ho. That wasn't his style.
"Maybe it's so kind of mailer or advertisent or sothing else?" Silvana ran through the possibilities.
"Do you think they'd let just anyone in here? Damn, shouldn't we have gotten a notification beforehand?"
Ding!
The doorbell rang again. Their unknown guest showed no sign of haste or alarm.
They had nothing to fear, but for so reason, perhaps because of how tily this visitor's arrival was, Adam and Silvana's hearts were beating faster than usual.
Exchanging a glance, they headed toward the door just as another ring sounded.
Ding!
Adam reached out, slowly opening their tall door.
The light from the kitchen t the elevator's lamps, and a silhouette familiar to both of them was reflected in their eyes.
"Good evening. I hope I haven't interrupted anything important?"
Gladius smiled warmly as he held a surprisingly large, black case firmly in his right hand.
