I finished all the volus of Oregairu and also managed to draw up to chapter 8 of the Dragon Ball manga. During that ti, the announcent for volu 17 of Overlord was made—and it was revealed that it would be the final one.
The announcent was received with great excitent by my readers, but so people were upset and bothered by the fact that it would be the last volu.
So of the comnts I received were:
[The final volu!? What is the author thinking? There's no way this entire arc can be wrapped up in just one more volu! I hope it has at least 500 pages!]
[Sothing about this doesn't feel right. Even though I trust the author a lot, I'm still a bit skeptical.]
[The author is making worried. I'm sure the final volu won't be very good. Author, I hope you know what you're doing!]
But honestly, the number of comnts celebrating the release of the final volu and the passionate readers was so much greater that those remarks didn't affect at all. I genuinely don't care anymore.
Now that the final volu is coming out, Overlord has beco "the past."
It will always have a special place in my heart as my first novel, but I don't want to cling to it. I just hope people continue buying the volus and following the ani—that's all.
Ah, and right after the final volu of Overlord was announced, the publisher also announced that I would release a new novel in the coming month. Tomorrow is May 1st, and the first volu of Oregairu will be released on the 20th.
Volu 17 of Overlord will be released on the 15th.
In other words, the publisher doesn't want to give my fans any ti to rest. They want to release my new work just five days after the final volu of Overlord cos out.
And as for the reception of my new work—
No one criticized my decision to write a school romance next. In fact, readers were excited. Even people who weren't fans of the author Aoi Haruki were looking forward to it.
There aren't many romance novels in the industry, so they're hungry for sothing new.
"Now that I've finished all the volus of Oregairu, I can start a new novel. Probably fantasy."
At first, I thought about writing Mushoku, but I feel like it's a very controversial work.
It would only be well received if I changed the protagonist's "morality," and I don't want to do that.
Not right now.
So I decided to write Tensura, which follows a the that's also very popular in this world: isekai/reincarnation.
It's a very popular the here as well, despite the lack of quality in most works.
I'm sure a story like Tensura would be very successful in this world.
'People might start thinking I only like monster protagonists, huh?'
After all, the protagonists of both Overlord and Tensura aren't human.
Well, there's nothing I can do if they're fun stories.
I stood up from my chair and stretched. I was in the middle of drawing chapter 9 of the Dragon Ball manga. Then I picked up my phone and opened my Instagram. I had posted a few photos the previous day, and all of them had gotten a lot of likes.
Each photo had over 20,000 likes. In fact, the number of likes kept increasing with each post.
"But aren't all these photos basically the sa?" I always either made a peace sign or smiled at the cara. I have the talent to be a model, but I can't even take good selfies? That's so strange. "Should I hire soone to take and edit photos for my Instagram?"
A lot of celebrities do that. They only post "professional" photos on their Instagram and leave their stories for more personal content.
'Co to think of it, I've never posted an Instagram story before, have I? Well, I don't really have anything to show…'
For the past few days, all I've done is work and reply to emails.
And speaking of emails—I still haven't received a response about the movie.
Did they give up on the idea?
'Maybe it was a fake email.'
I opened my email on my phone to check and was surprised by the sheer number of ssages. I realized they were all from fans and journalists. Most of them were talking about the final volu of Overlord, and so ntioned Oregairu.
Since I usually only check the important tab, I hadn't noticed how many there were.
I opened an email from a journalist who worked at an independent newspaper and read it.
'He wants an online interview about my new work.'
Should I give him that interview?
It's been a while since I've done one, and the publisher has rejected all interview requests on my behalf.
So people try to get around that by contacting directly—like this journalist.
'He's an independent journalist and wants a written interview… I think I'll do it to help him.'
It could bring so recognition to his newspaper.
So I replied, saying I would do it.
Right after I sent the reply, I noticed a new important email had arrived.
It was from Toho.
"That's them!" I quickly opened it. They started by thanking for my response, then said sothing that surprised .
[We don't have a project in mind. We want you to write a script so the production committee can evaluate it.]
"They already have a production committee… without a scriptwriter!? What kind of lack of professionalism is that?"
Well, I don't really mind.
I replied saying I would do it, and then I created a new text file.
[Script – Koe no Katachi]
Alongside it, I created another one:
[Tensura – Volu 1]
My main focus will still be the new chapters of Dragon Ball, but I'll also work on these two projects.
The speed at which I write and draw keeps increasing over ti, as if my abilities have levels (even though they don't), so I can handle it without any problems.
However, if I get called to start filming scenes for the series "A Piece of My Heart," I'll be in trouble…
