Bai Ye was almost pressed against the car door, trying to distance himself from Feng Mu, but his legs felt as heavy as if they were filled with lead, and cold sweat trickled down his forehead.

Feng Mu spoke softly, his voice carrying a chilling calmness.

"The main thing is that Forensic Bai’s autopsy reports are quite impressive. I’ve seen autopsy reports in prison, and to be honest, the quality of those reports is worlds apart from what you’ve produced."

Feng Mu continued speaking, his tone still gentle, as if discussing sothing trivial.

Bai Ye’s heart suddenly raced, his fingers trembled slightly, and sothing seed to be stuck in his throat, rendering him speechless.

"Feng... Feng Mu... I..." Bai Ye struggled to speak, his voice tinged with a desperate tremor.

"I know you’re scared, Doctor Bai."

Feng Mu interrupted him, his tone carrying an almost imperceptible humor:

"You’re afraid you won’t have ti to prepare an autopsy report for yourself, right?"

Bai Ye said nothing, his neck stiff as if it had rusted.

Feng Mu slowly turned his head, his gaze landing on Bai Ye’s face:

"Don’t be afraid. Do I look like the kind of person who would kill at the drop of a hat to you?

Besides, honestly speaking, in our story, you’re the bad guy, and I’m just the good guy willing to offer you a chance for redemption, haha—"

This was Bai Ye’s first ti seeing Feng Mu in person. Seeing the other’s face, it was ostensibly calm and gentle, with a friendly smile, yet Bai Ye only felt a chill running down his spine.

He looked at the face so close to his, feeling increasingly uneasy the more he looked.

Bai Ye’s breath beca rapid, his fingers trembled slightly, and the eyes of a forensic expert served as thermoters asuring the temperature of a corpse, yet when he looked into Feng Mu’s pupils, he saw a pool of cold, dead water, devoid of any human warmth at its bottom.

This reminded Bai Ye of bodies on the autopsy table, those cold, lifeless objects.

Suddenly, Bai Ye felt an absurd illusion arise within him—this person standing in front of him was clearly not alive, but rather a corpse disguised as a living being!!!

"I don’t know if you’re a good person, but you’re most likely not a living person!" Bai Ye shouted in his mind, cold sweat running down his back, soaking his shirt.

Unfortunately, there were only the two of them in the car, and Bai Ye didn’t know who to expose his shocking discovery to.

"Captain Feng, do you know your son isn’t a living person?"

Bai Ye wanted to take out his phone to call Feng Ju but lacked the courage. He could only swallow the secret back down into his stomach.

"Conducting autopsies is an art, and you are quite skilled in it. There are many people in this world who are not dead yet or are about to die, who need you to speak for them, so, will you accept my goodwill?"

Feng Mu looked at Bai Ye, his face full of smiles as he asked.

Bai Ye’s face was solemn, his tongue stiff: "Thank you, what do you want to do?"

Feng Mu was very satisfied with Bai Ye’s attitude and suggested:

"I think with your talents, staying in the Patrol Office is a bit of a waste. You should co to the Second Prison, only in prison can you gain the most opportunities to hone your professional skills."

Bai Ye finally let out a breath, his back already soaked, but he couldn’t help but relax a little inside:

"If it’s just changing a work environnt, then it seems... it wouldn’t be unacceptable, as long as I can stay alive, anything is negotiable."

However, Feng Mu’s next words shattered the glimr of hope that had just risen, as though an icy hand had snuffed it out.

"Of course, as for how to report to the Second Prison,"

Feng Mu’s voice suddenly lowered by a few notches, coaxing gently,

"I believe with Forensic Bai’s abilities, it won’t be difficult. You’ll just need a little... framing, and you can smoothly report to the Second Prison, right?"

Bai Ye’s head exploded with a buzzing sound, sothing seed to be stuck in his throat, rendering him speechless.

He suddenly realized he had misinterpreted, Feng Mu was giving him a chance to stay alive, but the way wasn’t about changing a work environnt, it was about switching identities to report to the Second Prison.

Not as a forensic expert, but as a prisoner!!!

Seeing Bai Ye silent, Feng Mu maintained his smile:

"Forensic Bai seems unwilling, do you think I’m wrong, or do you need so help?"

Bai Ye dared not ask for Feng Mu’s help, beads of cold sweat appeared on his forehead, he opened his mouth, showing a smile that looked worse than crying:

"No, no need, you are very correct, I can manage by myself."

"Really?"

Feng Mu stared intensely at Bai Ye, a strange gleam in his eyes, "Does Forensic Bai really agree with from the bottom of his heart?"

Bai Ye didn’t dare to et Feng Mu’s eyes. He only found those eyes imnsely terrifying, like two bottomless black holes ready to absorb his very soul.

He lowered his head, his teeth gritted audibly, finally squeezing out a sentence with genuine sincerity:

"Really... really. I... thank you for the opportunity to atone, I will seize it."

[Convincing with reason triggered its effect!]

Seeing the notification box flashing across his retinas, Feng Mu finally withdrew his gaze, gesturing invitingly to Bai Ye with a suprely gentle voice:

"Very good, the Second Prison awaits your arrival at any ti, I hope you can still enjoy a pleasant dream during the day."

.....

At 9:30 in the morning, the light shone brilliantly on Upper City’s rear.

The artificial "brightness" bathed and descended, refracting off the tall buildings’ glass, making it hard for people to open their eyes.

The whole city seed to be coated in a layer of gold leaf, dazzling yet counterfeit.

Lou Duan sat in his office, the curtains half-drawn, light squeezing through the gaps like a long, thin snake, crawling across his desk.

His fingers gently tapped on the wooden desk, the rhythm slow and powerful, a contemplative look on his face.

The TV was on, the volu tuned low, the morning news anchor’s voice calm to the point of indifferent.

The image flashed, a charred corpse appeared on the screen, the skin shriveled, like paper scorched by flas.

The cara lingered for just a second before cutting back to the anchor’s face.

At the bottom of the screen, a brief line of text scrolled silently:

——Chen Yang, a constable from the Patrol Office, took bribes and frad others, burned himself to death at ho last night out of guilt, the specific circumstances are still under further investigation...

Lou Duan’s gaze lingered on the subtitles for a mont, the "sunlight" outside still glaring, shining on his profile but failing to penetrate his eyes.

Those eyes were as deep as an ancient well, calm yet with hidden undercurrents.

"Self-immolation, ha—"

He repeated the word softly, his tone laden with sarcasm:

"The Patrol Office abandoned its usual sluggishness, this ti they solved it quickly..."

Lou Duan didn’t care about Chen Yang’s death. To him, Chen Yang’s death, if it helped to see through things, was a death he deserved.

In the complicated and confusing situation, corpses were the most real universal language, the ssages and codes that important people wanted to convey were all hidden within the corpses, the key was whether you could understand them.

If you understood, you beca the attendee of the feast;

If you didn’t understand, you beca the next corpse.

This is using corpses to find the way, did you get it?
