Boss Zheng died a horrible death.

When Ma Bin opened the iron door, the first thing he saw was Boss Zheng’s mangled corpse.

Ma Bin was not surprised by this outco. Boss Zheng was just a third-grade martial artist, known for his strength, fighting like a reckless brute, especially not adept at maneuvering.

Though he once capitalized on his ferocious, manic energy to smash a fourth-grade martial artist, a feat that secured his place as the top of the Cyan Wolf Gang.

However,

In this unfinished, narrow area up on the rooftop, caught off guard and facing several guns aid at him simultaneously, unless Boss Zheng was impervious to bullets or could grow wings, he was dood.

Besides, to ensure success, Ma Bin had been slipping a trace amount of poison into Boss Zheng’s drinks over the past few days, making it impossible for him to utilize more than seventy to eighty percent of his strength.

Li Shang kicked Zheng Si’s motionless corpse, whose chest was riddled with a dozen bullet holes, turning him into a sieve.

Chang Erbing was slightly injured, his shoulder carved with three bloody gouges, nearly exposing bone, a result of Zheng Si’s final desperate struggle at death’s door; the other constables were variably injured, though none fatally.

Chang Erbing spat a thick phlegm onto Zheng Si’s face, sneering at the dead man: "A scumbag of a gang mber, dared to stand against our Captain Li, even ten lives wouldn’t be enough for him."

Ma Bin squatted down, unbothered by the filth, using his sleeve to wipe away the phlegm from the corpse’s face.

He understood that Chang Erbing’s words, though seemingly directed at Boss Zheng, were truly a warning for him from Li Shang, with the implication that if he didn’t know his place in the future, this would be his cautionary tale.

Li Shang looked down at Ma Bin’s action of cleaning the corpse, a slight disdain flickered in his eyes: "As Boss Zheng said, Ma Bin is clever, but indeed lacks the ruthlessness. But that’s a good thing; easier to control this way."

Li Shang forced a fake smile: "I’ll leave the body to you. What about the people Boss Zheng kidnapped?"

Ma Bin stood up, unable to hide the grief on his face: "Thank you, Captain Li, for stopping Boss Zheng from making further mistakes. I’ve already released the people Boss Zheng kidnapped; they are all waiting outside this derelict building to queue up and thank Captain Li for saving their lives."

As for the couple of dead ones during the transportation, Ma Bin naturally didn’t ntion them, nor did Li Shang ask more.

Most of them were rescued successfully; why dwell on a few dead ones? Who could or should bla the heroes of the Patrol Office for bloodily rescuing hostages~

Li Shang was extrely satisfied, leading the way downstairs, feigning concern for the hostages.

He didn’t truly care whether these hostages lived or died, but this rare achievent, he must put a strong stamp on it, branding this credit to his face so that he would have a better chance in the end-of-year captain selection.

Outside the abandoned building, in the rundown area, forty-four rescued hostages stood together, each with heavy hearts, silently scrutinizing each other.

No one spoke; the air was heavy with a silent and eerie atmosphere.

Li Shang noticed the odd atmosphere but didn’t think much of it, assuming they were all frightened nearly to death after surviving this ordeal.

He shook hands with each of them, offered comfort and greetings.

When he asked about their abduction, everyone’s answer was remarkably similar: all claid they didn’t know why they were brought here, were blindfolded and knocked out, and upon awakening found themselves rescued.

As an experienced chief constable, Li Shang’s professional instincts sensed sothing strange.

Their answers were too unified, almost as if they had rehearsed them collectively.

But that shouldn’t be, they are all victims in this incident; what would they have to rehearse for? So maybe I’m overthinking; the facts are simply as they described.

"Rest assured, the villains who kidnapped you have been killed by Captain Li Shang, and the Patrol Office will send soone to safely take you ho later," Chang Erbing shouted loudly to the hostages.

He also felt that the kidnapped hostages were frightened, each with stiff expressions, their eyes wooden as they listened to him.

Chang Erbing and several other constables drove vans to take everyone ho; the vans had been parked by the Cyan Wolf Gang, but the original drivers and thugs were nowhere to be found.

Li Shang didn’t suspect a thing, rely assud Ma Bin had dismissed them all, unaware they were there all along and it would be hard for them to ever leave this derelict building in the future.

Until everyone left, a while later, Ma Wei drove back in an automobile.

The car door opened, and Ma Bin helped Boss Zheng into the back seat, softly murmuring an address.

Ma Wei was returning after delivering goods to the crippled boss, unaware of the events that transpired later in the derelict building; he didn’t dare think nor ask.

Through the rearview mirror, Ma Wei watched Bin adjust Boss Zheng’s corpse and take out a makeup kit, using powder and other items to apply makeup to Boss Zheng’s face.

Ma Wei didn’t know what Bin was doing. He started the car, steering towards the address Bin ntioned.

Ma Wei occasionally glanced up at the rearview mirror; Bin’s expression remained cold and indifferent, while Boss Zheng’s ghastly face had acquired a hint of color, seeming more like a sleeper than a corpse.

The car slowly stopped in front of a shabby brick-built house.

The door had a rusty lock; Ma Wei gently pulled, and the lock broke open. He went over, stifling his fear to support Boss Zheng.

The two of them held each of the corpse’s arms as if supporting a drunk, bringing Boss Zheng into the room.

Inside, the furnishings were sparse, cobwebs hung over the light bulb, casting a dim, yellow glow.

Ma Bin propped Boss Zheng’s body onto a chair, dressed it with a coat, adjusted his posture, then finally took a photo with his phone, satisfied.

Ma Wei found it baffling, a chill seeping into his bones.

He then heard Bin suddenly ask, "Do you think masking it like this with a photo could lure that crippled assassin you’re backing here?"

Ma Wei was stunned: "....."

He swallowed hard, seemingly realizing what Bin aid to do, feeling as though plunged into an icepit, his tongue numb, teeth chattering: "Bin, what do you an?"

Hadn’t he just delivered the goods as Bin instructed? Why now, does Bin’s tone suggest a turncoat situation?

Ma Bin narrowed his eyes: "Since my tasks are completed, it’s ti to remove the remaining threats. With secrets, the fewer know, the safer it is."

Ma Wei’s face turned ghastly pale.

Ma Bin laughed: "In our ga, ambition requires a dark heart, never hesitating at betrayal when necessary, don’t you agree?"

Ma Wei’s throat dried, sweat like torrents down his face.

Simultaneously.

By the abandoned bridge underpass, Feng Mu was examining ssages on his phone, a mysterious smile creeping onto his face...
