The War God nodded. "Of course. We're in a battle. I'm bound to use a Battle Array." He leaned against his palm and asked, "Do you know what makes the War God?"
Alex looked up and slowly shook his head. "Forgive my ignorance, War God, but before today, I hadn't even heard of the title."
The War God snickered. "I don't bla you. The reason you don't know about is partly my fault, given how I don't interact with anyone other than people of my own cult. And partly, it is because there is no more war for anyone to rember for."
"The purpose of a Battle Master in a war is to coordinate the battles, to make sure everyone is where they need to be, to understand the state of war, and make decisions based on it."
"And the one who does it the best is the War God. I am the best, and that makes the War God. So, do you still want to continue?"
Alex swiftly nodded.
The War God smiled. "That's the right choice. Let us battle once more."
The world spread until Alex was but one of the n among the 5000. To his clear shock, the war had already begun, and he had close to no info on his n again. Everything had been reset.
'I need to gather information quickly,' he thought. At the sa ti, he also needed to see how he could teach them a way to use his Battle Array.
Gathering every bit of information was wasted effort. As the War God himself had said, there was no reason to know everything about a soldier before letting him go fight. As long as the essentials had been gathered, that was enough.
"People who can heal, raise your hands!" he ordered.
A great few people raised their hands. Alex looked, and the information was now marked in his mind.
"People who can go invisible."
"People who have a spiritual sense over 50 ters."
"People who can teleport."
One by one, he went through the important parts of what he required from the group and quickly separated those that had a specific task.
He selected four n to be his guards at all tis. Then, he separated the entire army into five groups, with 1000 n each, who would be their own units.
His array technique increased in power each ti the number went up tenfold, so having only 1000 people in each group was perfect. Now, he only needed to worry about how the array worked with these fake individuals.
How was he going to teach them?
It turned out, it couldn't be any easier. He simply needed to think about how the technique worked and pass it to them. The people did the rest by themselves.
He had four other people beco the commanders of their individual groups and sent them off to do things on their own. They would, of course, coordinate back with him for everything, but he wouldn't keep an eye on them at all tis.
This was enough.
Alex took his group and left to fight. He wouldn't be standing around doing nothing this ti.
Alex was kept in the loop by the other groups as they made their way through the forest. One of them ntioned eting a scout who attacked and ran away. He had a second group move toward the first group to help them should soone co to attack them.
Alex didn't believe the War God would co right through the middle this ti around. He didn't do the sa thing twice. This ti around, Alex waited for another strategy.
'Since no big battle had happened yet, sothing should happen in the next 20 seconds,' he thought. Just as he believed, a threat ca.
The forest to the left burned, smoking out the people that were there. The fire wounded those people, so they were forced to run away from there.
As they left, they t a small group of the War God's forces.
Alex only got info on the aftermath. His n had killed 8 people while only 2 of theirs were wounded, being healed by a healer.
It was a fantastic start to the ga.
Alex sent another ssage to each group to expand outward right until they found soone, at which point they would converge inward and go fight the enemy together.
They expanded, but Alex didn't find anyone at all. At this rate, there was going to be sothing else to distract them. As the seconds counted down, Alex feared what was coming.
A teor fell from the sky, landing in a location toward the center. Alex sent two of his groups to check on it imdiately. When they arrived there, no one was around.
'Sothing isn't right,' Alex thought. 'I haven't seen his group since the first encounter.'
Alex waited to learn what it was, and he received a ssage.
They were under attack.
'Huh?' He was confused. Monts prior, there was no one, and now they were under attack? How could that happen?
The fight seed to be raging. He got more ssages, giving him the status of the battle. The teams moved toward the one that was under attack.
At so point, he received a ssage that they were losing. The opponent's aids had arrived.
"Fall back!" he ordered imdiately, and they obeyed.
As they ca back, he had them report on the losses. The battle itself hadn't gone poorly, apparently, as they both had lost about 300 people each. When the reinforcents arrived, they had left before there could be more losses.
They had, however, lost the teor. When he asked what it was, he learned that it was most likely a large piece of spirit stone—sothing the War God could quickly use during rest to give Qi to those who needed it the most.
"Spread out into four groups and join one of the remaining ones," Alex ordered the remnants, now that there were no longer 1000 people in their group. "The rest of you, continue to expand and contract your formations. Find out where the enemy is. They can't hide for too long."
Alex waited for so ti and got a ssage that one of the groups had received their reinforcents. Then he received another ssage.
And… the third group was attacked.
"Keep using the array and fight as well as you can. If your n are dying more than they're killing, fall back."
At the sa ti, he ordered another group to go attack the incoming army. He made his way there with his group too. He received continuous ssages about the ongoing battle, and to his surprise, they were at a standstill.
Both sides fought equally as it seed that the War God had not sent all of his people, just as Alex hoped. Their group continued fighting until a handful remained, at which point both groups left.
Since he was now down over 1500 people, Alex decided to combine the remaining forces into two groups so he couldn't go below 1000 so easily. Around the sa ti he finally ford the two groups, the next event happened inside of the ga.
The world of forest and grassland grew smaller.
