Unlike the others bustling about, Yang Chan returned to Room Geng. Since the injured were only Servant Disciples, they weren’t brought to Room Geng for treatnt.

This was the Cyan Yuan Sect’s attitude toward its Servant Disciples.

If they were injured, they were basically left to recover on their own. If they beca useless, they would be driven out of Tan Yun Mansion.

In the eyes of the Cyan Yuan Sect, Servant Disciples weren’t considered mbers of the sect—they were just replaceable servants. This was precisely why so many of them desperately wanted to beco Official Disciples.

Aside from the higher status and access to Cultivation Resources, it also ant they could receive treatnt from the Cyan Yuan Sect’s Pharmacists when injured—a benefit that could often be life-saving.

Even if crippled, they would still receive the protection of the Cyan Yuan Sect and be able to wield a degree of power within the sect’s territories at the foot of the mountain. It paid to have a powerful backer.

Yang Chan had seen this sort of thing before in Taiyu City, so it was nothing new to him. He didn’t play the saint, simply returning to Room Geng as usual.

No one needed treatnt, so he told the Pharmacist’s Assistant on night duty to carry on before heading back to his room.

However, as Yang Chan stepped inside, his body froze. He didn’t take another step.

Because there was soone else in his room.

Soone he had just seen.

He had watched this person escape just monts before; why they had fled into *his* room, he had no idea.

"If I were you, I wouldn’t scream or try to run. You can’t outrun ."

"So, am I right?"

An unfamiliar voice spoke from within the room. It was weak, but Yang Chan didn’t dare make a single rash move. He could feel a powerful spiritual intent locked onto him.

It was a Martial Seal—one more powerful than any he had ever encountered.

"That’s where you’re wrong. I’m a disciple of the Cyan Yuan Sect, and I’m always prepared to make sacrifices for it."

"Trading the life of an ordinary disciple for that of an Inner Master is more than worth it."

"I’d have no regrets."

Yang Chan didn’t move a muscle. An idea flashed in his mind, and he spoke with a look of pure determination.

He looked for all the world like a man ready and willing to lay down his life for the Cyan Yuan Sect.

"COUGH... COUGH..."

"If you were truly that loyal, you would have scread and run imdiately, not stood here spouting useless words."

"Besides, would a man who rigs his room with so many Hidden Weapons be willing to die so easily? And you’re no ordinary disciple. You’re a Pharmacist."

Shen Yuan was in a sorry state. He had tried to escape Tan Yun Mansion, but Inner Masters were already guarding the periter, leaving him no opportunity to flee.

He feared that the next ti he revealed himself would be the mont of his death.

He never expected Tan Yun Mansion to have an expert at the Inner Refining Five level hidden within its walls. He had never heard anything about this master. Clearly, this person had descended the mountain hidden amongst a crowd, their objective not being small fries like him, but the No-Life Holy Sect in Yu State.

He, most unluckily, had thrown himself into the jaws of death, hoping to find a path to survival. He just hadn’t expected it to be a one-way trip.

When that Inner Refining Five Level expert attacked, one of his arms had been torn right off, he’d lost an eye, and his leg had been grievously wounded.

His Five Viscera and Six Viscera were a complete wreck. If not for the tenacious Life Force of an Inner Master, even an External Refining Iron Bone Expert would have been dead as a doornail from these wounds.

Though not dead yet, he was close. Unable to escape Tan Yun Mansion, his only option was to find a place to hide and treat his injuries. He ended up randomly choosing a Pharmacist’s room.

He just hadn’t anticipated finding so many traps and Hidden Weapons inside a Pharmacist’s room. And he had triggered them.

While they failed to kill him, they only made his injuries that much worse.

’It also made him want to see just what kind of clever bastard would set up so many traps in their own room. Do they have a death wish or sothing?’

He wanted to pry the man’s skull open and see what made him tick.

After putting everything back in its place, Shen Yuan found several useful dicines, which he imdiately swallowed to stabilize his injuries before concealing himself.

His original plan was to wait for Yang Chan to enter, subdue him, extract so useful information, and then kill him. That would buy him a little ti to hide and recover.

Even now, in this state, he was still searching for a sliver of hope. He had no intention of dying in Tan City.

Thoughts of his beautiful wife and concubines at ho, of their soft, tender bodies, only strengthened his will to live. If he died, that old bastard Wang from next door would surely swoop in. He had no desire to be six feet under while a lush green pasture grew on his head.

"Is it really so strange to place Hidden Weapons in one’s room? You never know when so foolish burglar might wander in. They’re perfect for teaching thieves that so rooms are best left alone."

Yang Chan didn’t move his feet. ’Walking in there now would be a disaster.’

’Never trust a single word from an enemy. Everything they say is a ans to kill you.’

"It seems you really do have a death wish."

Shen Yuan’s breathing grew ragged. This kid was even trickier to deal with than he’d anticipated.

Normally, he wouldn’t have given it a second thought. He would have just killed him with a single punch and been done with it.

But his condition was too poor. If he used the power of an Inner Master now, it would undoubtedly attract the attention of the other Inner Masters in Tan Yun Mansion. Then, any chance of escape would be gone.

He had only managed to escape earlier by using a Secret Technique to speed his retreat, temporarily throwing the Cyan Yuan Sect’s people in Tan Yun Mansion off his trail. But doing so had only aggravated his injuries.

Now, he basically had one foot in the grave.

"I see you can still hold on for a little while, senior. How about this? You escape out the back, and I’ll pretend I never saw you. What do you say?"

Yang Chan changed his tune, offering what sounded like a reasonable solution.

Of course, it only *sounded* reasonable.

"Do you take for a fool?"

"The mont I leave, you’ll run off and raise the alarm. I’ll be discovered instantly. Kid, don’t treat everyone else like an idiot."

Shen Yuan almost laughed in fury.

’This kid is truly sothing else,’ he thought. But it also confird one thing for him: the boy was terrified of dying.

"Of course you’re no fool, senior. You just don’t trust my integrity. As a disciple of the Cyan Yuan Sect, one’s honor is paramount. You shouldn’t doubt it."

Yang Chan said, steering the conversation back to his supposed loyalty.

He was stalling for ti. As long as an Elder from the Cyan Yuan Sect found them, his crisis would be over. If worst ca to worst, he had a backup plan, but he needed a little more ti to use it.

Therefore, he didn’t mind talking. In fact, he deliberately drew out the conversation, as every second was to his advantage.

He was stalling for ti. He didn’t know what his opponent was waiting for, but this was his only option.
